    thanks Carl...maybe u can contact mr.martin and give him my e-mail address BERACEZ@FRONTIER.COM I might have more original #47 parts then i'm remembering now... the resto shop where i dropped off the #47 car was MIKE CURB RACING (ex-lt Gov of CALIF...with sunbeam....i remember brad couldn't meet me with final payment because he was at UCLA medical center...,his wife drove up in a black chevy suburban and got out and gave me the check and left....friendly huh...i knew the check would be good because it was from a weyhauser paper corp.fund....now u know where the money came from to race all those years....anyhow if u have a original car u should always do your utmost to keep it that way...when u are asking $ 275,0000 for it...not one screw should be wrong...PERIOD

    Are there any posters that have a group of all S30s racing? That is something I would go for, to put on the wall to keep the Z company or for a car show display, even though the car is a street-car.

    Man... look at how far up in the fender that rear wheel is. I understand he had 400 in/lb springs in there. Wonder if they were in there when that pic was taken.

    I talked to James Garner on a movie set and told him how Grand Prix changed my life. My love for film and cars were born during a large screen viewing at the original Century theaters. He seemed to like that. We also talked about Bob Bondurant and I shared my story of spending a day with him doing a shoot at Sears Point.

    I saw a documentary on how the producer to this day regrets having James Garner and not Steve Mcqueen in this role. For me Mr. Garner nailed it.

    Oh, I couldn't agree more! I own Grand Prix and LeMans with McQueen. It isn't that McQueen would have been a bad choice, but if you watch the film and have the heart of a race car driver, you know Garner really nailed it.

    You should write a book Steve. Your experiences behind the camera have always amazed me...

    I've talked to Bondurant many times and I even gave him driving pointers on the track. He was giving hot laps at Ford in a SVT F150 Lightning which I tuned. As I was riding with him, I pointed out several things to make him faster in the Lightning. He followed my instructions and thanked me for helping him out.

    I've also talked to Carroll Shelby many times. He was the nicest guy you'd ever want to meet. He loved working with SVT and BS'ing with us about our cars with his name on the back. RIP Carroll.

    But he was ruled ineligible. The second place finisher was later ruled the winner.

    The first-ever motor race in the U.S.A. was in 1895 from Chicago to Evanston and back, about 54 miles, and took about 8 hours to complete (it was in late November with muddy roads & snow drifts.) The winning vehicle:

    These pictures of Don Kearney got me walking down memory lane for a moment. Carl has a picture on his Zhome site. Other pictures can be found on this site: Don Kearney - Racing Sports Cars An internet search turned up this one at Road Atlanta. Although I don't remember, I suspect Don had more than one car. Perhaps he continued to upgrade the chassis, I know he had an early car, but the various pictures show development of his front spook and brake ducting as well has the fender flares.

    A photo by Paul Woodbury and what he said about it. "This is the Camel GT pace car in 1986 at Road Atlanta. I was attending the SCCA Runoffs and walked around the back of a maintenance building and there it was. It was sitting in the red clay without any wheels. A sad sight to see for sure." It was restored and painted in BSR colors for vintage racing and recently restored to the pace car livery and is now owned by Adam Carolla.

    Was at Paul Russell's shop this afternoon and saw the 1947 two seater Spider Corsa being rebuilt and a 1956 Testa Rossa being taken apart so that it can be rebuilt to 1956 Le Mons race specs. A similar car sold in 2010 for $16MM. The 1947 was the first Ferrari race car brought over to the U.S.

    All race cars change over time. A 1963 Elva re-tubed five times with all new body parts still retains the same builder/factory number.

    Here's a good photo of Walt Maas I found on the SCCA site. Description reads:

    The Bay Area Datsun Dealers' 240-Z will once again take to the Laguna Seca track during the October 15-17 Monterey-Castrol Grand Prix. This will be the final tune-up race of the season for the team before they head for Road Atlanta and the American Road Race of Champions in November. Driver and Team Manager Walt Maas has announced that the upcoming race on Sunday immediately preceding the Can-Am race, should provide the fans with some of the best racing of the afternoon but adds that "Datsun owners will not be disappointed with the finish!" Hank Pierotti, President of the Bay Area Datsun Dealers, recently confided that the dealers are extremely pleased with the performance of the car and the team in their first year of competition, especially so since it appears that they will be representing Northern California at the National Championships in November.

    Those are cool sites! Frisselle won the Mosport race in GTU. Bob Sharp was listed as an entry but didn't run, evidently. Bob Speakman is not listed as an entrant but finished 19th - 5th in GTU.

    Many of you have asked about the Car I got from Jerry Purcell and what my plans were for it well Here are some photos of it back in the day in New Mexico when it was a C-prod car and 1 photo as I received it from Jerry. I have to say that the work the guys did back then to make it an IMSA car was very high quality and thought out and I am planning to run the car almost as Jerry gave it to me with the same colors and everything but because they hand made all the parts out of metal all 4 fenders and rear spoiler and front valance/spoiler I will fix those parts and most likely make fiberglass replicas so I don't hurt the real original parts. As some of you know this car is serial number 000029 and I feel very honored that I can put it back out there as Jerry had it in the late 70s and early 80s. Hope to be able to start on it pretty soon!!! the center photo is from the Datsun tent at the runoffs in 1977 I think

    As pictured that was Joel Anderson's Z. According to Joel - It started out as the 1972 OMS Pace Car and was purchased by Joel {Frank Leary's Crew Chief} from the Datsun Competition Dept. for $1.00 and Joel picked it up at Sear Point from Bob Bondurant in 1979.

    It was prepared for IMSA GT-U. The Z was featured in the movie "Herbie Goes To Monte Carlo". Joel said he sold it to a friend, that was going to prepare it for SCCA GT2.

    So far as I know Joel maintained ownership and was letting another shop restore the car and then I was told Joel would drive it again and eventually the shop would help with the car and so on. Also the car that was in the movie was actually not the IMSA car but a very early series 1 body that was raced only in regional races but in a photo I have it won every race it entered in like 1978 in C prod in San Fran area and if I find it there is a photo of the door which was saved with all the stickers on it.

    "I have been a strictly amateur racing photographer from my first days of college in 1962. After hanging on the spectator fence at Green Valley Raceway in Texas taking photos without a telephoto for a couple of years, I became a corner worker until my move to Detroit Michigan (just in time to be welcomed by the riots that started the mass exodus from the city). Upon joining the Detroit Region SCCA I was immediately pressed into service as their photographer, thus gaining passes to the races for a number of years until the birth of my son and a second job restricted my weekend commitments. I continue to be a regular visitor to nearby Waterford Hills Raceway, where one needs no pass to be close to the action."

    Look again. The emblems say 'Fairlady 240Z'.

    Correct factory badging for L24-engined Fairlady 240Z, Fairlady 240Z-L or Fairlady 240ZG.

    Amelia Island Sports Car Digest - The Sports, Racing and Vintage Car Journal Now, I'm a lttle confused. Is this the car EFR campaigned (unsuccessfully) in 1975 / 1976 against Frisselle? Pictures of the car in the artilce say it's a 1970?

    Here is a note from the current caretaker of the car. When I get the full history I will post it on my IMSA website and in this thread too.

    "The BSR Sam Posey car is the replacement car for the original Bob Sharp IMSA GTU championship car that was totaled by Bob in early 1976. The Camel GT car was built by BSR under contract from RJ Reynolds Co.. The Camel GT car was converted to look like the Posey car. I restored the Camel GT car to proper livery for Adam (Carolla) about two years ago. I currently take care of the Posey car and it is in race ready condition. I will put something together for you to post with input from the current owner of the Posey car Allan Robbins."Click image for larger version.

    Hi Rob,

    That's the warm-up lap for the 1978 IMSA GTU Race at Laguna Seca. The "half" car is Lee Mueller in the Victors / Quality Inn #71 240Z and on the pole is Dennis Aase in the #64 911. They crashed each other out on lap 13 and Frank Leary #48 ended up winning the race. Sam Posey #33 finished 2nd and Devendorf #83 finished 5th....

    As a side note to the above race info, Casey Mollett also was at the Laguna Seca IMSA GTU race in May 1978. Casey had engine problems with his car that weekend, so he rented a spare motor from Mueller. He had to start last because he couldn’t qualify, but he managed to move up to 4th at the end of the race. Since it was a rented motor and he didn't know what it was, he figured they would only spec the top 3 finishers and he would be ok.... unfortunately, they decided to spec the top 5 finishers, and the motor Mueller gave Casey was a 2.8L and he was given a DQ….

    Here is a USAC pace car in BRE livery. Note the period correct accessories. American Racing Libre wheels, BRE front and rear spoilers. I think that is the only time I have seen a British style soft sunroof on a Datsun though... Anyone recognize the track? Dealer plates on the car so it might have been later sold to the public or given as a prize...
