Question Left hand drive KGC10? 2400GT?

Found this brochure for sale while browsing Yahoo Auctions Japan. Very little info but seller said maybe for Okinawa ? Has anyone seen a left hand drive in the C10 series?
    Cheers,
    Jim.

Well, I guess anything is possible. Up until last weekend I had never seen or heard of a LHD Sunny pickup. Turns out that they were made in Guatemala. I doubt that Skylines were ever made there but possibly in some other LHD countries. Which brings up the question: Besides USA, Mexico, Central and South America, Canada, what other countries are LHD?

How about Kuwait? And some countries in the middle east? And most of the European countries are LHD.

The C110 was made in left-hand-drive format also, so I am not surprised! How many LHD C10's do you reckon there'd be in the world now? ....Not many!

Question I think this answers my question!

The sports 800 was designed for the japanese market only and were never sold stateside. However, I was told that a very limited number of them were made left had drive for the Okinawa market in Japan. Okinawa's military base became the export point for some of these lhd cars to make it into the American market. These cars were exempted from regular dot rules if they were brought back by U.S. servicemen who were allowed a one time exemption to bring over one non-importable car.
Good Ol' V12 Horse found a Toyota 800 sports on ebay, I found the above in the description in the auction!

That military base must have (had?) same sway in Japan to warrant cars being marketed directly at the servicemen.
    Anybody know anymore about this?
    Jim.
    Regards,
    Jim.

It is a good thing that you caught that Jim, because I was watching this thread and it was clever of you to correlate the LHD S800 with the LHD C10 brochure that you came across. Was the C10 ever exported? The story about the S800 is quite interesting. I would be curiuos to know if that factual because it seems a little far fetched. I am not trying to say that I know more, because I don't. However, it seems that it would be too much effort for a major Japanese car company to cater to such a small market. Please don't take my word on this, I could be totally wrong because this is only an assumption. Does any of the people that are/were stationed in Japan know about this type of thing?

The only countries that I can think of that are RHD countries are England, NZ, Australia, and Japan. What other countries are RHD? I am sure there are more.

    South Africa is also RHD.

I too believe that story seems a little far fetched... stranger things have happened though!

edit: Hong Kong is also RHD

    Exclamation

I'm actually of the same opinion Ben, Lachlan. I guess this thread is a bit of a fishing expedition to try and catch a few facts .
Does any of the people that are/were stationed in Japan know about this type of thing?
Just what I'm trying to flush out!

A Tenuous connection...Okinawa mentioned in the Yahoo auction, and also in the ebay toymota 800 auction. I will have it substanciated one way or another! I'm hoping one of our well travelled Japanese connections on this forum can put me out of my misery
Just had a look in my old Prince Motor Company Parts cattledog for the S54 series Skyline. There is reference there to a LHD (LS54AE) 1966. thats the single carby export car.
It may be the C10 as a 2400 GT LHD never made it to production, but got as far as a brochure? i have an example of this with the 1969-70 Holden Torana GTRX, have a read ! It even has a 240Z connection....true!
Well haven't we covered some cars and connections in a few short paragraphs? Lots of room for myth and speculation about IF or WHY LHD versions of cars of interest to us were built....I won't be happy until they are scotched or proven..one way or another......., Cheers Guys,
    Jim.

    Jim.

To revive an old thread and to end the guessing,

I own a '71 Nissan 2400GT and have the chassis tags of another Nissan 2000GT Left hand drive.

Also there is one other 2000GT alive in my country the Netherlands.

As far as I could trace there were a total of 40 2000GT's and 2400GT's sold at the time.

The car is designated HGLC10 for the 2400GT and GLC10 for the 2000GT. Engine is single carburator L20A or L24.

Apart from being LHD the rear lights were unique for this car as far as I'm aware,

Also no mentioning of "Skyline" on the car.

    Welcome to the forums, Johann!

Don't worry, we have learnt many things since this old topic in 2004 - partly due to your website!!! Thank you for your extra information on production etc. How is your car going? We would love if you could upload some pictures to the gallery.

The car is in pieces. I have been collecting some small stuff over the years but the last 4 years not much has happened.
On the car side I have been to busy with my Volvo's and now a '77 Datsun 180B SSS.
The last 2 years I visit the German Nürburgring frequently with my Volvo's which absorbs a lot of time, also in maintenance.

I hope to start working on the 2400 again by the end of this year or early next year. Some welding is required and some paint(...) is needed.

    Nice car Johann

I had one of those lefthand driven 2400GT:s here in Finland for a short time. When I got it, it was so rotten that it was almoust impossible to save. I sold the car to a another 2400GT owner who needed spareparts. There ain't many 2400GT:s left here in Finland either.

    Thumbs up

G'day Frans!..and thanks for the information. I think it's great gathering all the little bits of the puzzle to get a clearer picture of the C10 history.
I enjoyed your homepage too. The photo of the TWO C10's, one with a caravan in tow is just brilliant!
I hope you can tell us some more of your dads and your own stories of life with the old Skylines!
OH ! and welcome to the forum!!

Default Another Nissan Skyline C-10 2400Gt is Alive in Portugal !!!

    Hello.

My name is Jorge and I'am the proud owner of a 1972 Nissan Skyline C-10 2400Gt !

This car was discovered about a month ago, in Funchal ( Madeira Island ), it was inside a garage stopped for more than a decade....

The car was a service car, from the local 70's Nissan Representative there, and was only used in very few ocasions and then left to rest in the garage...So it only has..about 6.500 km's on the odometer !

After the buy, I've fully serviced the car and now it's on the streets again !!

I will post some photos of this rare find on this tread !!

I also have another Classic Japonese car, it's a Datsun 510 1600SSS from 1971 and I also have 3 other Vintage Classic Cars from Germany.

    Regards from Portugal

    Jorge

PS : Here's some photos of the car :

Thumbs up Wonders will never cease!!

Who would have believed a "barn find" C10? ...with such low mileage? well maybe it's 106,500Kms but even that would be extemely low and desirable. Thats pure gold Jorge! It certainly looks very original throughout (steering wheel?) . I'm glad you found our little classic Skylines corner of the 'net and hope you're here for a while. Just what did you have to do to get it driving again? Any plans? Any more in your part of the world?

    Hello.

I did not restored it, there was no need for that

The car was found in excelente condition, everything works 100% !

The car is REALLY almost NEW, and now after the test drives I've made on it ir marks 6.850 Km's on the odometer.

I will post some detail photos that show the millage of the car is correct on another tread.

The paint is still 90% Ok, with only the engine bay in need of a re-spray, because the previous owner left the engine hood open for about 10 years, so dust in conjunction with motor oil stained the paint

The guy was a bit sloppy with the car, I will post some photos of with as I found it on his garage...The interior and engine bay was all covered with dust, the trunk compartiment was filled with toys from his kids......

Luckly nothing happend to the seats and dashboard that are in mint condition.

All I did was a good klean on car throughly inside and outside, machine polish the paint with AutoGlym High Resin Polish Wax and I did a good mechanical service on it :

New spark plugs and wires, new condenser and battery, 5 lts of Castrol GTX 15w50 and Wynn's Gold protective aditive, new DOT4 Brake fluid, complete brake and cluth overhault, complete drain on the cooling system and some more things I don't remember now.

Here's some photos of the car as I found it, and on the way to be shipped outside Madeira Island to Portugal by boat.

    Regards

    Jorge

It certainly looks very original throughout (steering wheel?) . I'm glad you found our little classic Skylines corner of the 'net and hope you're here for a while. Just what did you have to do to get it driving again? Any plans? Any more in your part of the world?

Hello and Thanks for the Welcome

    The car is completly original.

This steering wheel is a "DeMoura" St.Wheel, and it was ( At least here in Portugal ) a very desirable original part for any Datsun at the beggining of the70's.

It was sold by the Nissan Dealers here as a Sport Pack addition for the cars, that also included other "competition" parts... Some customers that didn't like the thin wood Datsun wheel could put this one on the car on request, since it's a little smaller and has a leather grip ( Kinda looks like the Alpina Steering Wheel for the BMW's )

I have one also on my Datsun 510 1600SSS.

Of course this was a very expensive wheel at that time.

Because my car belonged to the Administrator of the Nissan Dealer in Madeira Island, it has also all the factory extras possible for the model, like the rear heated glass, the radio, the back head rests, the rear seat belts, the "DeMoura" Steering Wheel, etc.....

To make this car drivable again I only had to make a good service on it and a good cleaning inside and outside, polish the paint and that's it - nothing more was needed

I plan to add later some Watanabe Wheels to it and nothing more - I want to keep him as much original as possible, since it's a very rare model.

I'am pretty sure the car has less than 7.000 km's, because :

The last MOT he made before the one he made a few weeks ago, was in August 2000 and it only had 5.200 km's at the time...

The History of this car is fully documented by the previous owner, since the car was always in the same family for all these years - The Nissan Administrator that owned the car in the 70's was the father of the guy that sold the car to me...in fact the father is still alive and in good health !

But the car itself shows that he was only used ocasionaly all these years, take a look at the photos :

The front disk brakes have little to no wear.

The inside of the front fenders speak for them self....

The Steering Wheel leather has no wear.

The Interior of the car and seats look almost Brand New.

The brake pedal and clutch pedal have almost no wear.

The wheel hubcaps are almost brand new, no traces of wear at all - The inside still displays the manufacturer brand - IKI.

The turn side lights look new....

Here are the photos, I will send more in the next tread.

    Regards

    Jorge

Absolutely amazing..........Thanks for the comprehensive reply Jorge. Details! I just love the details. What about the handbooks and such? The previous owner was in a prime position to acquire all the manuals. Did they keep the owners handbook with the car?

    Hello.

    Yes, I've forgotten that

The car has the owners handbook.

If there's interest on the members, I can scan it and post it on the forum.

    Just let me know.

The manual is in English, so everyone can use it.

I just stumbled on this thread today and after spending almost 6 years on Okinawa as a servicemember, I never once saw nor heard of a LHD C10. I owned and shipped back the C10 to the US in 1982 which met with unhappy circumstances thanks to an idiot driver. (not me )The car was repairable but I was an idiot myself for ever selling it. I still regret it to this day.

    Hello.

It was for the European Market.

The word on the Net is that there were a total of less than 50 units, between 2000Gt and 2400Gt ever shipped to Europe.

Your manual is from one of those units I guess....

I don't know anyone who has a 2000Gt in Europe right now, only the 2400Gt.

I will post the manual friday, because right now I'am out of home on a business trip.

    Regards

    Jorge

In Portugal we have another 2400Gt, that belongs to a member ( like me ) of the Friends of Japonese Oldtimer Vintage Cars, here's the tread were the car shows up.

    http://www.amigosjaponesesantigos.pt...p?topic=5246.0

The car is black, it has a little rust and the interior is a bit tatty....

But it's still alive and kikking

So here in Portugal we have 2 C-10 LHD 2400Gt Skylines

    Regards

    Jorge

I hate links that lead to pop up ads that are designed so that my blocker won't block them. That being said, nice car. I love the Skyline but would not be interested in a RHD. If I could ever find a LHD KGC10/Skyline/2400/GT over here I'd be interested.

    Hello.

    Nice car, looks lowered.

I see that someone has stolen the Nissan GT door simbols on your car, like some asshole stole mine ( Hapenned with the previous owner ).

i've bought another ones from a guy in EBay, but they are the JDM ones, and say Skyline GT instead of Nissan GT like the European LHD model...

Nevertheless I will use these, better with these than without the door simbols...

The guy has always many parts for the old Skylines and Datsun's, heres a link for his auctions if someone here needs something :

Could You take a picture of the simbols and place it here ?

I have an ideia of them, but never saw them, because mine were stolen before I bought the car.....

    Hello.

Many Thanks for the image my Friend

If possible, please send a picture of the nissan letters too.

I've bought for my car the Japonese Domestic Market badges, since the European one ( the ones you have ) are almost impossible to find anywere....

Here they are, this is the only guy in the world I know that still has this kind of badges to sell, they are real Nissan Originals and come on the Nissan original box :

    http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Datsu...8791QQtcZphoto

For all the users in this forum, here's a PDF from a 1972 Sales Brochure I've just bought on EBay, that shows the complete Datsun European Range of veicules, including the 2400GT

    Regards from Portugal

Hi Jorge, I found this forum just by coincidence and was interested by the questions and answers around the LHD C10.
By the way, I was very much impressed by your story and pictures of your new old Nissan! Congratulations, and I hope that you can conserve it for many years. Some time ago I owned the exactly identical car/colour (LHD 1972) of which I was very proud of. I bought it back in 1980 and kept it for 9 years until I had to destroy it due to rost.
I am sure that I can find some old pictures - if yes, I will upload them.
    Best wishes - URS

    in the whole middle east ( approximately 40 countries) only two (( 2 )) C10 - 2400 gt

are left a live ... both of them are in Kuwait owned by one man . ( red & Silver )

another old man in saudi arabia has about 30 cars but unfortunately all of them. are 1800 Delux . 4 cylender live axle.

Hello Jorge, you are right - before I destroyed my Nissan I kept all the badges and signs of the car. So far, I was not able to find them - however, they should be around - give me a bit more time.

    WOW !

I've just saw this tread after some months, and another 2400Gt is alive, altough this one needs quite a lot of TLC.....

If you need any info from me, like pictures of the all car, inside and outside, just let me know.

I will help as much as i can, so that you can manage to rebuilt the car.

In the mean while, if you quit I will be happy to buy the car as spares for my car, just let me know.

    Kind Regards

Default about left hand drive cars in Okinawa

Very nice to see these Skylines all over the world. I have a 69 RHD GC10 in Okinawa Japan.

Going way way back in this thread.... left hand drive domestic (Japanese) cars were made and sold in the Okinawa part of Japan in the early 70's.

This was not done just for the military bases....well not specifically anyways. Sort of indirectly in a way. Basically, Okinawa was kind of under US military control. Japanese citizens actually needed passports to come to Okinawa. Okinawans needed passports to go to the mainland. Currency for Okinawa was issued by the US, Local police were actually MP's

Most roads in Okinawa after WW2 were built by the US Army Corp of Engineers. Being Americans, they made the roads like they were back home. Set up to drive on the right hand side. Okinawans DROVE ON THE RIGHT SIDE OF THE ROAD, NOT THE LEFT LIKE THE REST OF JAPAN!! Thats why there were LHD vehicles made specifically for the Okinawan market. Think of buses. Pretty tough to walk out in the middle of the street to get in bus that had the entrance on the wrong side.

Okinawa reverted back to Japan in 1972 or 1973. I came to Okinawa in 1975 as a kid. Everybody was still on the right side of the road then. I kind of remember the day everyone switched over to the left side. Believe it was in 1977.

    Default Yet another c10

Greetings again from Finland. I just managed to get one HGLC-10 And this seller had two..
So I know for sure that there is atleast 6 of these around in Finland.. Maybe few more standing somewhere. I have been searching for these early Skylines.

Here you can see all my projects:

    SKYLINE JAPAN | KMLGC210 Project

This c10 needs some work, but it is quite hard. Doors need some welding on outer panels. Side rocker panels are hard. Only front part under fender are a bit rotten. And surface rust here and there... Just got her running and out a new clutch slave cylinder. Have to probably change wheel cylinders and maybe main too for brakes..

The girl on the cover of the brochure at the very top of this thread looks like the same girl in the "Strange Datsun" video that was posted up about a week ago or so. Coincidence?

Nice! Congratulations! Was he willing to sell the other car he had? If so, please let me know.

I see youīre missing the front fender emblems. Do you have them in a box or are they missing? I can get you newly made replicas if you want?

The old wheels were 15". Maybe 6.5" wide. Canīt remember, since theyīre sold. ET0 if I remember correctly. It wasnīt possible to lower the car lower than on the picture or it would have rubbed.

The new wheels are 16"x8". Canīt remember the ET right now.
