    well,

here comes the rather sad start of the story when i pick her up after months of searching in Malaysia.
Came by a few units here in Malaysia but almost all of them refuse to change hand. Saw a 1972 HS30 in KL which is in its most orginal and nicest condition, met the owner and he owned the car since bought new in 1972itself!!...respect!.

Finally, after around 8 months seraching for one, this is the best i can find and it was willing to sell!!...not even thinking too much, i took it up and planned a long and painful restoring process for her

    when we first met!

and she was habitat for more then 100 of snails, perhaps a few kingdom of ants too!!

and there you go..tht's the new boyfren!!

after uncovering her from the bushes..she aint tht bad looking at all!!..got meself a tow truck and truck her all the way back to my mechanics which is nearer to my hometown, way up north Malaysia, 10km away from Thailand border that is.

and when she finally arrived at the workshop, look at how much attention she attracted!..hahhaa..and tht's for how ugly she looks!

i was lucky to have bought the car with some spare given by the privious owner. The previous guy bought the car some 4 years back. After stripping her off in ready for a race car conversion, he found out the rust on the floor and the project was abandoned. Lucky enough he kept most of the parts taken off from it.

after sending her to the workshop, i got to get my axx back to KL after tht weekend itself though. Just after 2 weeks, i went all the way back and visit her again. And these are the photos...

the scrap floor and other parts of the oxidised metal body

the floor board and any pther parts of the new body were all fabricated from new metal sheet. Pictures from Internet had helped alot in this.

Welcome to our Club, looks like you are doing a super job. Keep in touch. I noticed on the red 260 you still have the emissions carbs. How well does she run with the flat tops? Keep up the great work and all the best with you leg. Gary

I noticed that too. Flat tops on the car and roundtops on what is maybe a spare parts engine. Odd, I say, odd.

    bart,
got it now, thanks. Well, the only thing tht i can tell of driving the 260Z around is tht it runs smooth enough. No problem in cranking it up even a month left undriven.

    Daffy,
thanks. Getting parts from England is always an option for me but the only thing is how to get them shipped back here to Malaysia. Tried to order stuff from the US, ended up with more expensive postal fee then the parts themselves.
U must have staryed in Sabah or Sarawak then. I was in Leeds for 4 years during my degree though. Was in London every other weekend, stayed in Collindale back then.

If you see a ferrari red 1971 240Z with the plate JAG 636, that used to be my car! Regretted selling it ever since! There's a workshop in Sungai Besi near KL that did the paint for me using the same paint as the Ferrari F1 cars!

Dude get a set from Bad Dog, the price is good and the product is excellent. I am sure they can get them to you via DHL or Fedex. I used a set on my Gnose project.

    Hi Tony:

Grettings from Puerto Rico. Great job and outstanding goal you have aimed. The rescue of this survivor will mean a lot to you and we all know as Z owners that it will become part of your life. Keep on the project and post more pictures. Hope that your leg is healing and that the project could speed up during the summer.

Have you changed the radiator? You might consider an improved rad to keep the coolant temps down.

How are you? I still have the gearbox from JAG 636. ;-)

I see you are back in this part of the world. Mount Kiara has changed since you were here last. There is another red 240z flying around since you left. Its not JAG636. Driven by an expat who like yourself found a 240z to enjoy the Kuala Lumpur traffic.

Hi Trex! How the heck are you? Funny you should still have my old gearbox! Is it still working? I actually changed it 3 times! The second box had a lousy ratio, the 3rd one was spot on though!

That other expat actually lives in Mont Kiara! I went back there a few months ago and he was stranded in the middle of the road! I stopped to help and found that his fuel pump was dead. Tapped it with a spanner and it burst into life, but advised him to get a new one. Looked like a nice project car though. I think it was a 72 if I remember rightly.

I always wish I had given him my number in case he ever wanted to sell it!

    Cheers,

    Ian

Did you try Tan Chong Motors at Kepong? I was amazed what they had in stock for my 240! Even ordering from Japan was easy through them and they could get anything! I drew the line at a new dash though - RM6K!

Great project you got there Well done ... btw from which site did you get most of your parts from? I've been buying parts from the US and i've got to admit that the cost of the shipping is very expensive. By the way, im from Brunei Darussalam & i own a 1977 260Z 2+2 as well and a 280ZX. Nice to know that there's a Z family nearby

    Wow...that's really cool.

I'm a newbie and for the longest time, i remembered riding in my dad's 1973' 240Z when I was a kid. don't mean to hijack tony's thread but I'm interested to find other Z owners in Malaysia.

    wow,
dont know how much it cost, anybody checked out this car yet?
i guess if u already checked it out, there wont be anything left for me.

there's one in my area, sarawak,
best ive seen, i was stupid to let it go,
asking 26k. bumper good, body all good,
only dash has 2 holes. engine rb20.

    and now i regret

well, i dont mind spending a bit more on an all original, and very good condition piece.

Even the one that black gold man linked to shows no activity from tony5050 in about 5 months.

Are you a 'bot?? If not, read the rest of the thread.....tony5050 isn't here, hasn't been here in over 4 years, and, from most indications, won't be back.

I don't think he's a bot because the subject is related. Maybe he just didn't see the dates. Funny thing is, I haven't seen this thread in awhile so it was fun for me to revisit.

Except for the fact that there are pictues of the project in the thread and he/she/it hasn't been back since that post.......single post to a dead thread on the join date and no return? Sounds/looks like a bot to me.
