    Default Pay it forward!!!

We need a PAY IT FORWARD thread. With tough economic times and the Holidays fast approaching, a lot of people could use a break or a hand out.

How does it work? Really simple...Clean out your garage with a part that you thought about selling, but considering its relative worth it's just better to simply offer a "freebie" to someone that could really use the component. The basic rules are as follows:

    1. You're offering the item for free.
    2. Recipient should be willing to pay for shipping, but the offering party can volunteer to cover that if they choose.
    3. Recipient pledges to "Pay it forward" at some point in the future with another item for another Classic Z-Car enthusiast.
    4. Don't abuse the privilege. Only take something if you really will use it (No Parts Hoarding!!) It's an honor system.
    5. Services may also be offered up...indicate City, State.

In the end, we help each other out and feel good at the same time.

Let's see how well this goes. We will collectively get out of it what we put into it.

I will get this started on the right foot. I'm offering up the following parts just for the cost of shipping.

    - 240Z Driver's door mirror. Good driver quality, with gasket and nuts. GONE
    - Pair door handles. Few pits and scratches, but work well. GONE
    - '70 - '71 Ash tray. Cleanly cracked in half, easily glued. Gret if your driver doesn't have one. -GONE.
    - Hand Brake cover. A couple of tiny cuts but very good overall condition. GONE
    - '70-71 Shifter to tunnel grommet. New!!
    - Pair spindle pins. Removed with a puller. Thread are good, only needs minor clean up. GONE.
    - Disk Brake pads - Set of stock Beck Arnley front brake pads. Looks like they were used for a couple hundred miles. Lots of life left in them.
    - Stock coils. They would work fine on a driver.
    - '83 fan and fan clutch. clutch feels good.
    - '83 thermastat housing
    - '83 Pulley
    - '70 Water Pump pulley cover. Great core to send in for re-plating.
    - '70-71 Fan clutch. Not pretty but worked well when removed.
    - Left side headlight cover. Good condition, with gasket.
    - $ Energy Suspension bump stops. - New!!
    - '70 - 71 Tool covers. A couple of cracks, but very serviceable for a driver that has them missing.

    Have at it!!

    Great idea, Marty!

I have several spare parts and some I no longer have a use for after downsizing my Z collection, but these are the only ones I could locate at the moment (they’re free – just pay shipping*):

240Z Dome Light Assembly w/Lens – came out of a 73 model; don’t know if it works; lens has yellowed and deteriorated, but there’s no breakage; metal frame holding lens on has no rust

240Z Dome Light Lens – this fits the assembly above; it’s in great shape (no yellowing or signs of deterioration), but does have several small surface scratches which aren’t that noticeable if you keep it clean, as dirt imbeds in the scratches

240Z Analog Clock – Jeco brand; came out of a 73 model; # 3062J on back; don’t know if it works

My other parts are in my storage unit and it won't be anytime soon that I will be able to go through it and sort through things. So, that's all I have to offer for now.

*I reserve the right to deny my free parts based on a member’s join date, post count, or negative feedback. Shipping charges must be paid in advance.

This is a portion of my prior and current Z collection
    I still have my 82 280ZX and 84 300ZXT, but sold or stripped my other Zs (1973-1986 models: 240Zs, 280Zs, 280ZXs, and a Z31)

I have a set of front brake pads, I beleive they are ceramic, brand new in a box. I bought a set of cross drilled rotors last summer and they came with them. I decided to do the Toyota caliper upgrade rendering the pads useless, to me at least.

It's a good idea. I'll look through my spare parts this weekend.

Got a jump-start on this about a month ago. Gave a fellow 240z owner a decent left tailight assembly.

My off-work brain power has been occupied on the Bolder Tint deal and a house project recently. Both are wrapping up shortly. I also think this is a great idea, and will be looking through my left-overs to see what I can offer.

Great idea. Though I never really though of it this way, this is pretty much what I've been doing for the last 6 years or so. Trading parts, giving away parts for postage or even free including postage. The only time I sell parts is when I have too much in them to give them away. I'll look around and see what I can come up with.

I like the idae, but i'm not sure people wan't to pay for international shipping.

From the top of my head, i can't even remember what i have to spare, what about a -72 dash with only minor crack's, i'm not going to use it after i got a crack free.

d240zx2, dibs on the mirror, if it is the door mounted one.

    Default Pay it forward!!!

Presently refreshing "ol'red70". Doing electrical, suspension bushings, both M/c's, rebuilding diff and trans, replacing rotors/ finned brake drums, etc, etc. All parts that were on the car are in a serviceable condition. I'm not going to use all the new stuff that I've been gathering over the years for the next restoration. That's not going to happen as we're on the road travelling. One zed is just right.

Up for grabs today is a "longtail fuse" box for a 4/70 240z. Good useable condition. It is being replaced with a NIB one. Cover postage & it's yours.

And thank you for that! Luckily most of the Datsun engine parts are interchangeable (we got a lot of Datsuns, but only few Z's) but interior parts are rare.

Hey Jan (Pomorza), I'd be interested in the headlights. I have a spare 4 speed (doesn't everyone) that someone can have (shipped at there expense) if it is at all practical. Also have a complete L28 block that sat (in the car) for too long and there is rust on the camshaft and the motor is seized. I didn't fool with it at all, took it out and putting in a turbo so someone can have it if they need it. I could part it out too I suppose.

I have two throttle linkages (from the firewall forward both different) and an early fuel rail they just need to be cleaned up, but are in good condition.I may also have a couple of usable body parts but I'll have to check on those.

Sadly Leonard someone claimed them this morning. I'll have another set available pretty soon as I want to get rid of the ones I have in my car and replace them with something better

Bump, for some nice parts still left. Pictures in the first post.

    - Pair door handles. Few pits and scratches, but work well.
    - '70-71 Shifter to tunnel grommet. New!!
    - Energy Suspension bump stops. - New!!
    - '70 - 71 Tool covers. A couple of cracks, but very serviceable for a driver that has them missing.

Let's get in the spirit and keeps this going!!

I'll have to check the year but I think this is from a 1982 zx. I bought the engine and trans. and plan to carburate it so this is available for the cost of shipping. I'll gather up everything that I'm not using from that engine and include it if wanted.

    Thanks, Ron!

On that note, I think the only spare Z parts I have (that I'm not keeping) are a set of used carbon-core plug wires in decent condition. Admittedly sort of slim pickings in the Z department.

That said, I have a few nice '65/'66 Mustang parts taking up room in my garage. Any Mustang owners here? If so, PM me, and I'll see what I might have for you.

I think I also have some new brake pads (front?) for a '90 Volvo 240 that I no longer own.

    Peace,
    Sarah

I'll offer up a fixing plate and mount from a S130 distributor. If I recall correctly, these are the bits needed (and often overlooked) for the upgrade from points to electric distribution (someone please correct me if I'm wrong)

However, I seem to have misplaced the bolts that go with it...

(edit: spoken for as of 6 pm est)
I do have another set, but don't have the rubber gasket for it.

I have a set of rear louvers pulled off my 280z. They seem to be aluminum, not plastic, and are currently painted orange. It's big so I expect boxing and shipping will probably be in the $30 range, assuming I can find an appropriate sized box. Yours for the asking, as I'm not a big fan of louvers..

For anyone interested in Geof's rear louvers, I have a set of black plastic louvers such as pictured in Bart's post (#45). (Hey, it's a late 70's kinda thang!) They should be pretty cheap to ship.

I thought I'd bring this thread back to life. I'm shipping a pair of wiper arm nuts to Koalia in Finland today. He needs 'em, can't find any in Finland, and I've got spares I don't need.

And thanks for that Arne! There aint much Z's (none) in our scrapyards where to look. There's lot of other Datsuns like 100A (most popular one in 70's), 120A, 120Y, 150Y etc etc but no Z's.

Prefer local pick-up in Bakersfield, CA.

    From 76 280z:
    - removed used a/c parts (compressor, seized pulley, vacuum canister, brackets, some relays and vac. tubing). The box is heavy and needs to go as one unit, please. A/c was disconnected in the car when I bought it, the a/c compressor's condition is unknown. A heater core will be included.

Chevy 350 engine bare block, 4-main, I acid dipped it a few years ago, still has surface rust. 0-over if I am not mistaken. It will definitely need to be bored out.

I'll bite. I have a tired-but-working alternator and mechanical voltage regulator out of my 5/72 car. I'm sure the alternator could use a refresh, but it powered the car well enough to drive it before I swapped in a modern one. PM me if interested.

    Default Tokico Lowering Springs

I've gone to coilovers and these springs are useless to me. What I have is the complete Tokico "kit" from MSA except for the front shocks, (they are now my rear shocks) These springs lowered my car about 7/8 inch. Four springs, (I have them marked as to front and rear) and two BZ 3016 Illumina shocks. All you need is a couple of BZ 3015 for the front and you have the whole kit that MSA sold for $499. (mine is a '71 240 Z)

I really liked the thought behind this thread, so I wanted to revive it.

Full set of six stock diameter exhaust valves for L24, '70-73. Brand new, bought for a previous car and never used, and don't now expect to ever use them.

Will let them go for $10 total, to cover shipping and hassling with getting to the Post Office. No PayPal, please. USA only.

    280Z springs aren't a good choice for the 240Z.

It's difficult to say. What is your goal? One of the best ways not to waste your money is to know what you're trying to achieve and why you're trying to achieve it. However, we're moving away from the purpose of this thread. I suggest you start a new thread in the appropriate section to ask suspension questions.

Arne, shouldn't 'Pay It Forward' be it's own Sub Forum? Perhaps AC/Heating too... (sorry for the hijack).

Does anybody have a used 280z rear strut insulator? I've contacted a few guys on the hybridz and locally, so far no results. I am going to call my parts dept buddy at Nissan. Out of my give-away parts my Chevy 350 block was finally picked up.

Email'd you today, but I am interested in keeping in contact. I am trying to rebuild mine on a single income budget. Not concerned with everything I get being new. This is an awesome thread! Glad I stumbled across it.

Here's a long shot—a free transmission. I've got a grubby-looking but known-good Type A 4 speed (correct for '70-71) sitting around here that I will never need. I had it in my yellow car until I parted it, and it was in the red car for a 1000 miles or so while I rebuilt the original. So I know it's good. No unusual noises, shifts fine.

Here's the rub—I really don't want to mess with packing and shipping it. So this offer is probably not worth much to anyone who is not within driving distance of Eugene, Oregon. But if you can come get it, or can convince me to meet you on the road somewhere near here, it's free!

Similar story on two more items.

    • Mustache bar for '70-71 (forward mounted R-180) with nice OE-rubber bushings. Free for local pickup, or pay shipping (may be oversize).

    • Drive shaft for '70-71 (shorter length for use with forward mounted diff). As I recall, the u-joints are good, but no warranties on that. Again, free for local pickup, or pay shipping (may be oversize).

    Hi Arne,
I would love the 4-speed as a swap-out trans on my HLS30-15256, Sunshine Yellow. However, I live near Pasadena, CA, but may be driving up the coast this summer. That may be too long for you to save it. Could you keep me as a backup if no one else wants it?
    Thanks, Mike

Mike, I'd like to have it gone before I move to a new place sometime in late June or early July. When do you anticipate being up this way?

They do have air horns I cut to fit the foam filters. I left 3/4" space between the filter and the horn. I had to trim them a bit and then smooth them out with a file and sandpaper. They look pretty good actually.

    Arne,
Thanks for your consideration, however my trip will probably be later in the summer than your timeframe will allow. I probably should pass on this wonderful offer.
    Thanks again, Mike

I have some more parts to give away, N47 head complete with intake, round port stock header, 280Z radiator with shroud and in couple of weeks a 75 L28 with N42 head (needs a complete bottom up rebuild). I traded a bunch of parts for a 2 ton engine hoist so a lot of my extras are now history.
