Default What are a set of Libre 14's worth?

I have a set of 14" American Racing Libre wheels I'm thinking of selling. Three are Very nice and one has a few blems on the bead I think from a tread separation and the tire went down. Anyhow, what do you guys think these would be worth realistically? No pics as of now.

Last set of 4 with center caps I had went for $400 and they were polished. A new 510 owner here in town needed them more than I did. Some of that was him paying for mounting and balancing my tires on new ZX wheels which I liked better anyway.

I only have three of the center caps that are original but need new center emblems, no biggie there as they easily peel off. I spent a little while polishing one of the wheels the other night and I was amazed at the results. Just need to get after the other three now...

Their value most likely has gone down since there is now a close knock off available from VTO Racing. Which is most often the case when this happens.

JohnnyT, I agree with that for sure. I know they are worth what somebody will pay for them and all that. I guess I should have asked what a reasonable starting point should be. I suppose I'll finish polishing them out and put them on CL and see where it goes

    These are Libras right?

If so, I think I will post this in the rim thread, as many like myself want a set of these 4 spoke wheels.

Yes. Either Libres (made by American Racing) or one of many look-alikes (made by Shelby, US Mag, etc.).

I like the libre but you are so limited on tires, that is why I use ZX 15.

Hi guys , always like posts about Libre's . When I bought my 71 these where on the car . I love the look , although my teenage sons keep telling me to get with the times and buy some new wheels and tires . i suspect I will but i want to get another summer with this wheel set . Yes there are very few performance options , but I am leaning towards falken Azenies , they come in a 195 60 14 for a little over 110 $ Canadian a piece .
My libre's are the shelbys with all four center caps . I tumbled the caps in a rock tumbler that was filled with stainless steel pins and shot . The pits in the pot metal where almost completely removed and I then sprayed them with black chrome paint . In the direct sun the contrast between the caps and the graphite spokes looks great IMO . They will be sold next year and I hope I can get 6-700 with the azenies .
    Thanx for reading

I have a set of Libre copies that I've had in storage since 1986. They are only 5.5" wide, so I pulled them off a car I bought and have never used them since. If anybody is looking for a set, let me know.

I put mine up on Modesto C.L. if you guys know of anyone who might be interested. I'm gonna keep the slots that are on my car for now and use the Libre cash to help fund a new exhaust.

I'd actually love to have a set of Libres or clones. (Or even better, a set of American Racing LeMans.) But my wife might kill me if I snagged yet another set of Z wheels...

Well I am thinking of picking up a set of those black Libra 4's in a 15x7, but I am not sure how that would look. In order for them to look right, the 'clover spokes' cannot be too long, or it looks weird. If the 4 thick spokes are the same size on the 14" and 15" rim and all that changes is the chrome or polished part, then it would look great I think. Very retro. I am trying to emulate the 4 spoke rim on the 71 SCCA Champion car I love so much. Just paying homage to a legend.

I purchased my libres in '82 before I had a Z car. They were stacked in the corner of a garage where I worked. At another garage during a spring cleaning I bought a set of slotted mags for a Mazda and a Campagnolo Pantera wheel priced as aluminum scrap.

There is a company in Florida called Retro Sport Wheels. Their Libre wheels look great. Anyone currently using their products?

I sold a set of Libres for $600 + shipping a few years ago but the value has dropped out because you can't find tires, especially performance tires for the 14" wheels...

The unavailability of 14" tires is why I went with the ZX turbo 4 spoke wheels. The Libre wheels are pretty, but what good does that do if the only source of tires is Coker?

Not everyone "needs" performance tires. Good "S" or "H" speed rated tires will do just fine for most street driven 240Z's - and there are still enough of them out there in the sizes needed for a 5.5" wide wheel.

Libres just look so period correct on a 240Z… I paid something like $24.95 each for mine. I bought them new from BRE in 1972. I bought a nearly new set around 1995 and paid $400.00 for them.

Libres - the only way to go!!

My car came with a set of 14 x5.5 0 American Drag Master 6 hole mags and rock hard 10 year old tires. After doing some research, I found that 205R70 fit quite nicely and had the same revs/mile as the original 175HR14. Ended up getting General Tire Altimax RTs from Walmart for something like $70 each. - And an accurate speedometer to boot.
