Just looked into it and looks like I can get it from bursons. Will try them tomorrow. Have you used that product?

Personally, I have not, but lots of people in the 240Z world have. Search through the archives here. You'll find plenty pro & con.

Went to bursons today and unit alone was 235 bucks. Went online and got same unit and high voltage coil for 160 delivered from u.s. I try to shop local but sometimes I just can't.

I'm in the US at the moment and bought a Petronix kit and coil. Will let you know how it goes when I fit it.

Got my kit today, fitted it up easy as. I also replaced my dizzy with a spare one that had no play in the shaft which was probably most of my problem. Anyway kit in and set timing, had very smooth idle and still yet to drive. Plenty of pics in z section which explain it well. Only question I have is my original coil is 1.5 ohm with an external resistor of 1.6 ohm. Instructions say to leave all resistors in place but my new coil is 3 ohm so should I remove external resistor? Will hit the z section again I think. Will update when I drive it.:-)

So I'm back and have installed the Pertronix kit, I got the ignitor 2 kit with the matching coil. Car starts well, and runs smoother. Definitely winds out a lot better than before. However, one unforeseen problem, is that with 36yo wiring there is a bit of a voltage drop at the coil, and at night when my headlights are on this gets worse. The module in the ignitor kit cuts out below a certain voltage, and at night with headlights, brake lights and indicator at idle the voltage drop will cause the car to stall.
Obviously this isn't ideal, so I intend to run power from the battery to the coil, running it through a relay using the ignition power to switch it. This should keep voltage at the coil pretty constant irrelevant of revs/electric use. Will let everyone know how this fix goes.

Turns out the resistor is only a noise suppressor. Perth 240 other option is to upgrade to 50 amp alternator which is what I am thinking of doing.

is the 50amp alternator off a later model L motor, or somewhere different? Is it a direct bolt up, or is there some mucking about?

Can't tell if you guys are driving 240K's or 240Z's but the 60 amp alternators from some of the late North American market 240Z's, 260z's and 75-77 280Z's used a 60 amp alternator with the external voltage regulator. Should be a straight bolt-in.

Thanks Zed Head, we both have 240k's. 60 amps would be great, mine doesn't stall but I do get some good fluctuation on my amp meter at idle(before and after ignition upgrade).
