    Default MSA fiberglass bumpers

If someone who has purchased the 240 ones recently could tell me of the fit and finish of what they have now, I'd appreciate it. I can only find comments, which weren't too good, from 5 years ago. Hopefully they have improved.

I've found some at ztrix.com but they don't have the bracket landings glassed in, you have to run bolts through them to attach. He makes them for racers. I want the smooth finish like MSA's.

    Thank you for any response,
    Cliff

Wow! Just sent him pictures of what I have. I found his phone number googling "fiberglassfabrication" off an ebay listing. Parkway something or another in New Jersey. He said he sales through distributors but they're out of stock so he's selling direct?

Thank you Steve. I wanted to ask you about my E88 head I recently bought, valves and what not. When I get these bumpers off my mind I'll send you a PM.

Just the fact that he e-mailed me back right away was a plus in my book .
I've been waiting a week or so for Schneider to call me.
PM me for a cell number, I hate the messenger on this site.

Well that wasn't what I wanted. Bumpers only, no landings. He suggested I use 3M adhesive to hold the bumper to the bracket, not too keen on that.

So I'm back to ask about MSA's bumpers. Appreciate any input.

    Question

Not sure why you want fiberglass, but if it is for the black check out---

    FUTOFAB

Seems the black powdercoat costs will be hard to beat!

I have one on the fornt of my 280Z. I bought it in Feb 2014.

    Positive:
Fitted well. Did need a little sanding on the inside line to match passenger side valance.
Mounting brackets are slotted which allows room for adjustment.
No pitting in fibreglass surface. I have seen others with a lot of pits in the surface.
Cheap. Im using it for testing. Plan to buy a harrington SS bumper (much) later when car is resprayed.

    Negative
It will need some work to look really neat. The end "Caps" are not finished very well.
Storage scuffs. Will need painting to fix it. Nothing serious, but its visable.

    See photos.

Those are great prices on chroming but I need to get the holes welded up and a couple of dings out first. I'm wanting to drive this car for a few years then get it painted and the bumpers chromed so this is temporary. I carried my front to a local powder coater yesterday and he told me that it's permanent, no chroming after the powder coating.

Kacrow76 and Chas, you've pretty much made my decision. I needed to know that they bolted up, all the others are naked bumpers without any mounts built in.

    Thanks for everybodies replies,

I managed to take a couple of snaps of the bumper mounts. Mind you its on a 280Z, so I imagine it will be a little different on a 240Z.
The slotted mount for the front two mounts should be centered better on the 240Z. Mine are at the inner limit of the slot because I using the old shock mounting points for now.
I also used bolts with a lock nut in the bumper so I could adjust it easier. You can see them in the side ear photos. The photo also shows the poor finish of the left side end compared to the right which is clean.

It was a quick and easy mod and I am pretty happy with the end result. Ill fit the air-dam this winter.

    Cheers

Thank you, thank you! I really wanted to see how the wedge shaped landing was made into the fiberglass, your 2nd picture is perfect. That left end looks like an additional piece of fiberglass, hopefully my painter can sand it down enough it won't be too noticeable.

I will order 1 today. Thanks again.

    Zup,
FutoFab has '70-'72 240Z steel F&R bumpers coming November 14th. Available in both chrome ($360/ea) and black powder coat ($240/ea). Ordering is now open.

These are JDM style w/o holes for rubber face strips.

Pics of a '70-'72 240Z chrome front (black powder coat is made the same).

Is that price for the rechroming only or is that the for whole bumper? Those look great!

What sheen would the black powder coated bumpers be? Glossy or not so much? I'm very excited about these, you've made my day.

Prices are for new bumpers, not for plating cost or a rechromed OE piece. They are 100% brand new parts. The quality is exceptional. The prep and chrome work is better that OE.

I am not sure on the powder coat sheen. I have not seen a sample of the bumper in black. I'll post as soon as they arrive.

    Great looking chrome front bumper.
May have to rethink my re-chrome of the rear bumper this winter & just buy a new one.

Hmmm, those Futofab bumpers look really nice and I'm very intrigued by the powdercoated ones. The price isn't bad at all depending on the shipping costs from NH to MI.

I've been contemplating swapping my park bench '78 bumpers for 240 bumpers for a long time. I've been looking at the MSA fiberglass 240Z bumpers, but here in Michigan, the truck shipping for fiberglass parts from LA makes them cost prohibitive so I've never pulled the trigger. In a few weeks though, I will be in LA for work and I'm seriously considering buying a set. I can ship them back in a truck we'll have out in LA, so shipping would be free. I like the idea of painting the fiberglass bumpers and rear spoiler the same gunmetal gray color as my Panasports, but fiberglass bumpers seem like they would be super fragile and the quality is suspect. Good used 240 steel bumpers are hard to find and I don't really want chrome anyways.

Dave Patten, any chance of getting custom powdercoat colors? I'm not sure how black bumpers would look with gray wheels.

We use FedEx on our larger parts. We have a decent rate schedule so shipping doesn't get crazy. Without doing an actual look-up I'd say around $30/ea S&H.

If anyone wants actual shipping costs, the bumpers are on-line for ordering. Set up your account, put the parts in your cart and head for check-out. The actual shipping charges will calculate before you pay.

Custom colors could be arranged, but it would be done with my local powder coater. He would have to strip the part first and then recoat it. Likely less than a chrome bumper, but not by very much.

Thanks for the reply Dave. I will take a look at the MSA bumpers while in LA, but not get them. I really like your bumpers and will likely hold off until your powder coated ones are available.
