Get the Z! I just purchased an '82 280zx for my first car and it's awesome![]()
Hi guys,
First post here, have been reading through many threads over the past few weeks, could not find very many speciific to body kits in Australia.
So its time for my first car, and my brother happens to have a 1981 280zx 2+2 tbar roof. Its in resonable condition. I'm doings some research and seeing if its worth taking it off his hands and spending some money on it. As i'd love to do it.
I've pretty much found prices for most of the things i was after.
One thing i would like in the future is the MSA Aero Kit 2 Body Kit.....
Is this available in Australia? I can not find anything about it. I have emailed The Z Store, but never recieved a reply. I'm not sure if they ship to Australia, and if they did i'm sure it would be very expensive.
Also anyone know who stocks Clear Headlight covers here in melboune?
Thats it for the moment guys, but if i do go ahead with the project i'm sure there will be many more questions!
Cheers

I cant say I've ever seen 280ZX body kits in Oz - all ive seen if for 240/260Z's
Call Z Worx or Zxtra's - if someone makes them they will be able to point you in the right directions

Yeh I havnt seen any kitted 280zx's in Australia. Ive seen a 1st gen 300zx kitted up just around the corner from me in Perth, thats the closest ive seen.
I would like to know if MSA export to Australia too. Because when i get my 240z(and i will) i want some things from there, mainly the 6-2 header and 'twice pipes'. That will be in a fair few years time though...

Thanks for the comments, i think i will go ahead with it.
Its a 5speed manual too
ANdi the paint job is very rare, i have yet to see another z like it? Its black with a silver bonnet. Looks great, My brother assures its not a custom job, it was a stock thing. He checked it out a few years ago when he got it resprayed.
The engine has been rebuilt a few years ago. 2.5" echaust from the manifold back.
Theres a little bit of rust under the windscreen, and a little bit under the passenger side floor. Which will all be cut and fixed before RWC.
This will be my first car too,
Matt0657 as a first car how do you find it? Power, weight, size?
Certainly feels different to me, sit so low, with a huge bonnet. Spose i'll get used to it.
I really hope those body kits are available in Aus somewhere!
Pretty sure that there would be no body kits in Oz for a 280ZX. You could bring one in from the US but the packing and freight costs alone would be horrendous. Pity because places like MSA have some great Z stuff although even they may not have a lot for the ZX.

In terms of power:weight ratio it is awesome, goes damn hard for a non-turbo carOriginally posted by SugarFreeGum

Cool, sounds great.
What about the headlight protectors? are they easy to find around here, or will i have to purchase some from Overseas?
i really hope i'm able to somehow get my hands on that particular body kit :/
Thanks guys
Try ringing up the Z Car Workshop here in Brisbane, they may be able to get you some, or atleast tell you where to go.

well i found All Z Parts in sydney have a few body kits for the 280zx
Just waiting on the guy to send me some pictures.
Yair, G'Day Matt,
I was about to suggest All Z Parts, I've purchased all the bits and pieces for my 260Z from Warren. Nice, helpful bloke and really knows Z's.
BUY THE Z
Rick.
IF YOU CAN READ THIS, THANK A TEACHER.
SINCE IT'S IN ENGLISH, THANK A SOLDIER.
Top Gear in townsville i think can source 280z kits. He says he's the biggest body kit dealer in australia, he knows his stuff. Word it that his 240z is the fastest Z in oz. Pretty sure that's the truth too cause i don't just hear it from him.
Warren is the guy who owns the 240z and runs the shop. You can get him on (07)4772 5288 or at www.spoilernet.com.au or at spoilers@spoilernet.com.au (I knew that business card of his would come in handy!)
He's where i'm getting most of my 260z stuff from. Knows a lot, has owned z's since they came out.

Hi MickieB!
Where are you located?
I'm a Townsvillian and deal with Warren quite a bit. He certainly has quite a wealth of knowledge on anything zed.
Re his 240z. Off the top of my head, it runs a L24, bored to 2.5L, with a suck through carby turbo setup. It's making ~450HP (if I remember correctly....that's the ball park anyway) at 1.5bar boost. It's previously run a 11.8 over the 1/4 mile, and has plenty of quick laps at various tracks to its name. Last time I checked it still had the second fastest time at our local track. Don't quote me on those figures above btw....been a while since I saw the specs.
I have a few pics of the car in my gallery if anyone wants to see it.
I've seen 280zx body kits on Australia.
Theres a 280zx at uni that has a bodykit. Its still in grey primer though, but has a front spoiler, side skirts and Flares.
Gonna take a picture of it if I see it this week.
Also there was that hideous yellow one that was for sale (think it was in melbourne). Someone put photos up of it. It was $15K or something ridiculous.

Pity their website sucks so badly.
If they has some pictures of what they sold they would sell alot more. If they want an online product catalogue site developed, they shoud send me an email.
Will work for z parts![]()

haha I hear you Mr C. I hear you indeed, BTW have you seen the new format for VicZcar?
I'm pretty proud of it not finished yet just like WA Zcars![]()
Still, he doesn't rely on the website. Trust me if you want to know anything on z's call him.
Datto-Zed - i live in west end, townsville. Buying my 260z this weekend so yeah, just starting off. Been talknig to warren a bit lately, he told me his is the fastest or something. And you, i think that 450hp is about right for his 240z

Gotta say that spoilernet website is ****house. But don't worry, warren does a roaring trade selling bodykits for all the V6 falcodores, excels and lancers around here.
It's always funny when you walk into his shop, because most of what's in there is old school performance parts. But there's always these young guys and girls in there buying their plastic adenda. Bit of a contrast.
MickieB: You have a PM
The fastest Z in Oz, eh. That claim could be disputed, there are a few RB26 jobs around for a start, eg from memory Whittaker's car did around 600hp, maybe more now.

I could bet skimmo's zed aint the fastest in a straight line. But I'd say it'd probably be up there going around a track though.
Hi Gav, looks good, but you really should use tables instead of Div's.Originally posted by Gav240z

Thanks for the tip i don't wanna go off topic here so maybe i will discuss it with you on viczcar forums or wa Zcars.
He is a very good driver but I don't feel so bad now knowing he has that much power. Anyway, here are some best times from the Nationals sprint last year, as against my best of 1:06.8017.Originally posted by Datto-Zed

John Whittaker 1:02.775, Desmond Harold (2.8 na) 1:05.377, Warren Skimmings 1:05.4872. Tell him that I'm going to p**s all over him next Nationals sprint.![]()
