    Rick,
I'm honobbing with a Bannana Bender, trying to figure out a bullbar from another thread...
all because I'm not within a cooee of putting my Z back on the street!.

I'm beginning to feel rooted for getting the Z ready for the MSA show because I have have been harvesting a crop of bush oysters for two weeks. Between me and the wee one, No work on the car for two weeks...

    Will,

    Are you fair dinkum ???????????????
You don't know what a bullbar is ?????????????????

And, -------ummmm, When You say you've been harvesting "Bush Oysters", are your "Bush Oysters" the same as our "Bush Oysters" ???????

If so, have you tried them wrapped in bacon and fried ?????????????.

    Rick-
I must have have come a guster.
What I thought I said was"
I was earbashing you about the different air cleaner housings, and for some strange reason, thinking about the "homemade bumper(ok, a bumper is not a bull bar) thread". http://www.classiczcars.com/forums/s...omemade+bumper
    , but this isn't a bumper!
    http://www.classiczcars.com/forums/a...achmentid=7059
Could it be a bull bar?
I have had bronchitis-lots of bush oysters(yes the same kind) come from having that particular malady, and with the frequency and volume I was producing them, I figured I'd harvest them into some tissue rather than the normal alternative-orwrapping in bacon and frying them up!.
The boy has just had his first cold-meaning I stayed home with him.

    Yair, Stokesy,

That great metal thing on the front of the Holden ute is a bloody good example of a Bull Bar.
However, the ute is NOT a good example of a You Beaut Ute. It's only got one pair of spotties on the front.
Imagine a bar across the roof full of spotties and fog lamps and your getting closer to a You Beaut Ute.

Haha now Mickie don't be too harsh.

Australians have made some very good cars, however I've always felt the Japanese cars have been technologicially more advanced.

For instance the Red Motor found in the old VB VC commodores and the early Torana's was a 3.3ltr motor pushrod . in XU1 GTR form with the 3 strombergs it made 160HP.

Now compare that to the 2.4ltr 240z with twin Su's and 150HP. Hmmmm 1 extra carb and 3.3ltr vs 2.4 and only 10HP? Yes i think the Japanese had the L motor sorted .

For it's day the Z was unreal and far ahead of most Australian cars.

These days though you gotta hand it to FORD and HOLDEN they have produced some very exceptional cars here. Take the Monaro which has been exported for the US market that's quite an achievement if you ask me.

I agree with all of your points there gav, apart from one...See the the LJ XU1 GTR, according to Wheels August 96' issue, made 142kw in the new money, which translates to 190.4251367232001hp. I agree that the Japs definitely win when it comes to technology, and the L motor was more technically advanced than the Holden Reds, but the Red in the GTR was not a sleeper. Sure, the efficiency per litre is in favour of the L, but those XU1's were tuned within an inch of their life. Oh and what about the torque from 3.3 litres? Not sure if youve heard one before but its a very noisy 142kw . I think a z, though, when tuned to the same level as the xu1, would have it for breakfast, luch and dinner...

    Tom

p.s I think its one of the few holdens i have a soft spot for

Nah i think that modern holdens and fords have lost the plot even more! With the exception of the monaro they're just family cars with juicy engines! I drive a BA XR6, and it handles TERRIBLY. Especially in the wet. I'm very unimpressed.

I'm not saying this to put down aussie car makers. My hate comes from the fact they wanna stop grey imports and make us all buy aussie cars. Which would be fine if we made some to compete with the jap cars, which we really don't. Especially not at an affordable price. Tha's my 2 cents, sorry if that annoys ppl hehe.

    G'Day Gavin,

No mate, I haven't tried them yet. I'd prefer to deal with a fellow member if possible.
I'd like to think that a fellow member would be more honest in a transaction.

No Carl, not yet mate. Fortunately, I have the patience of a saint and I'm NEVER in a hurry to do something. One of the advantages of retirement.

Tell you what Rick I know a guy who has some Zed spares I'll ask him for you. However I wouldn't count on it but we will see.

What price range are you looking at? They are pretty hard to find to be honest.

Okay here you go Will http://www.ztherapy.com/technical_st...240spotter.htm

The Australian's didn't get the "Clapper" i mean flapper .

We have the equivilent of your 1969 till mid late 1970 air cleaner.

I suppose it depends if Rick wants one with or without the flapper ?

    Well now, Gavin,
As I'm sure you know, as I live on the Tropic of Capricorn, I have little need of preheated air for cold morning starts mate although it does get down to around three degrees C during winter. (Once or twice).

I think I'd prefer one without the flapper if at all possible.

Gavin/Will, I'm waiting to hear from Warren at All Z Parts who said he might be able to chase one up for me. I'll get back to you both when I hear from him.

    Your help IS appreciated mates.

    You bloody beauty,

Thanks to everyone who was assisting me in my search for an air box.

Within the next day or so one will be on it's way to it's new home in the engine bay of "Precious", the Bronze Aussie Zed.

    Thanks again everyone.

    Rick.
IF YOU CAN READ THIS, THANK A TEACHER.
