the question is.. what do we do now.. should we start looking at putting a pot together to buy another from japan? i paid Y18,000 + fees plus shipping (local and international) in 04/06

the problem was shipping though as it was just over the EMS limit (but mine sneaked through)

of course i am sure they are a LOT more now, given the stupid asking prices for most C110 stuff in japan.. and the aussie dollar

Sounds like a good plan to me. Actually get the goods to someone who does seem to care. Obviously for me and a few other NZer's it would be better for us to have our own local distributor/supplier too, otherwise we're paying shipping twice essentially.

What annoys me is all the time you spent, Kent, getting stuff to Challenge, for them to them just not utilize it at all. Why'd they even bother? Just seems strange.

it is beyond me!, it really is.. i guess contract work is just more lucrative for him (but even still.. this is quite a big order to snub your nose at!).

i guess our first job is to find someone in japan who won't mind bidding / ordering them for us.. it would be great to find an actual japanese fibreglass shop that sells them rather than yahoo auctions.

Yep, I'm going to have to bail too. Can't afford it at the moment, have to save cash as I'll be out of a job at the end of the month.

If Challenge just quit stalling and came through with the goods, I'd still be up for a full set of items, including fender mirrors if he makes them too...

I've bought some flares from Japan. Should get them quicker than Challenge will even respond to the next person's query.

Like Mr. Camouflage says, careful with flares that aren't particular to the C110. Universal and S30 flares might fit the arch but they don't have the moulded sections for the body-lines. They're a fairly particular flare that goes almost all the way around the arch unlike some which just crest the arch.

Hey man, don't take it against yourself. You're doing all you can, the point is that you shouldn't HAVE to do that. Their customer service skills are so below average that I think they might need a new designation only for themselves. Everyone appreciates your help and effort, I'm sure.

So this guy took the moulds from someones parts on this forums? can they take them else where, guy sounds like a time waster.

I want a 240k but sadly I do not like them without the flares, grille and rear spoiler. Guess that doesnt make a me a true 240 fan

To be honest man, you probably just haven't seen a well done example without those items. I prefer the flares, just because I love bolt on flares and the front spoiler is badass. However, there are some very, very fine examples of C110's without those items. A key to 110's and most cars in general is height and wheel fitment, get those right and not having the other items isn't a big deal at all.

i am still ok to send down the parts that i do have.. but we still need to sort out a grill.. the missing link , as long as they don't get destroyed.. The flares i have seem to be of a much better quality (much thicker) than the set i have had from Challenge.. They are in primer at the moment.

but i am sure that we would need a minimum number of orders from alfa for them to take our moulds

    this one? http://page14.auctions.yahoo.co.jp/j...ion/s122316917

go for it! but if you win, you better let us take a mould

actually.. just found the one that you are talking about.. to be honest, i would go for an unbroken one.. it would have to be repaired anyway, and it would be tricky to repair those mounts (they are not that strong to begin with)

Final cost to my door was

21720JPY or $386.60NZD but after the Bank Transaction fee's it was closer to $395.20NZD ($311.90AUD)

So, only $30AUD more than the amount Challenge is after for theirs and yet they've come all the way from Japan. Considering I'd have to pay to get stuff sent from AU to NZ anyway, I think I've done pretty well.

Flares themselves were bought on auction for 12000JPY ($213.60NZD) the rest is commission for the buyer (Ewan @ Hayatonka.com) and internal Japanese freight as well as International freight to New Zealand.

Fairly reasonable given the time span (2 weeks from first contact to them arriving)

    You can read more about it here if you like;

    These are slightly damaged but nothing dramatic and could go for a fairly cheap price given their starting bid;

    http://page.auctions.yahoo.co.jp/jp/auction/122733419

If I didn't just get the ones I have I'd definitely be trying to get those through Ewan.

Read your blog, now I know who Ewan is

Does he want payment up front or does he wait till the item has been won?, and does he bid for you?

    Somebody's bidding on my flares

50% of the total estimate which includes freight to where you are and then the final 50% after he's got the flares at his place ready to send to you.

He's a great guy and a car enthusiast as well so knows and understands the fun/drama in finding parts.

Guys.. got some good news for you all.. i finally may have gotten my hands on an original GT-R grill..

as soon as i get it in my hot little hands we can organise to have a mould taken from it by the guys at Alfa Motorsport fibreglass (hopefully for the last time!).. then finally we will have a reliable supplier

Awesome stuff man. I've been spending up a bit on YAJ recently. Grille isn't really a large priority for me. I think a rear spoiler is my next purchase on there to be honest. As usual though, other things in the way that require the money.

Have you still got flares etc. to send to AM to get moulds for them too? or does someone else have some? A reliable supplier will go down very well after everyone's encountered the joy of Challenge Fibreglass, I guess the Challenge part is getting them to do something

How's your whole project coming along anyway, Kent?

    Default flares

Hi guys, I bought the last set of flares from the guys at challenge many months ago, used them as templates for my steel flares, (operation 240k), sold them to a friend that hasn't used them yet so i could probably get them back in order to make some molds if you guys need them. Just a thought when we made my steel flares we actually made them shorter in height, the 240k is really bad for lowering...if you lower the rears to far, you destroy the camber, and with the front, the struts touch the bump stops.

Or your you can go for the jet hopper look...let me know...

No, i actually bought a genuine grill from Bonzaelite (who last had my "rally" 240k, before it returned to the land of the rising sun).. the problem now is trying to get it shipped from the US to australia within a reasonable price. It may actually take me a few months to get a hold of it now (anyone know of a cheap sea freight / import company?)

With the Grill, i should have all the parts now to send down to Alfa, the grill, flares, tail, front lip

The problem i presume, will be like the bonnet.. having the right number of minimum orders for them to take the moulds for free. I presume that alfa will not be sourcing the actual grill material though like challange did

i just hope they don't trash the originals (well the grill..) like challenge did.

Unfortunately my project has been SLOW recently.. work has been very busy and havn't had anytime to work on the car.. i am almost through completetly stripping the POR off again.. then will epoxy prime it then start the long (and daunting) task of sanding/filling

A little off topic, does anyone know the offset for front and rear wheels when you have flares?

Depends entirely on the width of the wheels you have.

    For a KPGC110, the RS-Watanabe website recommends

    Front: R14 x 8.0 -6
    Rear: R14 x 8.5 -13

    Front: R15 x 8.0 ±0
    Rear: R15 x 8.5 -6

    Front: R16 x 8.0 ±0
    Rear: R16 x 8.5 -6

    Though with a bit of investigation, the user page shows a C110 on;

    Front: R16 x 8.5 -6
    Rear: R16 x 9.5 -19

The only problem with the non recommended sizing is that you don't know whether the car in question is running coil-overs or factory struts or they're played around with the suspension geometry. Still... That's the kind of sizes and offsets I want to be running.

Also, to give you an idea...

    If you scroll down on this entry on my blog;

    http://blog.retro-classics.co.nz/?p=1059

You'll see what R14 x 7.5 -13 wheels look like on factory guards. You can see that once the flares are on, they'll sit near flush.

I'm still keen for a grill and carbon bonnet/guards, I really need the guards as mine are so fked out of shape I can't be bother fixing them . . . . especially as it was me who bent them out of shape sanding and welding them, when you totally root something sometimes it's best to just walk away

Did you read the entire thread or just skip to the end?

The people the initial "group buy" was supposed to be going through have the customer service skills of a hibernating bear in winter. Their contact is intermittent at best.

Several people pulled out of the buy due to delays, another attempt is being made to get a whole new set of moulds made at a different place to the first one, though as yet there's nothing further in that regard.

Personally I took matters into my own hands and started browsing Yahoo! Auctions Japan and using a buyer in Japan, managed to get myself a set of flares and a front spoiler for similar amounts (slightly cheaper) than it would have been for me to get them from Challenge (I'm in New Zealand so adding freight from Aus would have made Challenge a far more expensive option than getting them EMS from Japan).

If you're interested in getting parts from Japan through the Yahoo! Auctions website (commonly referred to as "YAJ") then you can check out how I did it on my blog.

Want to buy from YAJ? Here’s How.

    Guys,
I think I have found a guy in Melbourne (well east of Pakenham) that already does Bedford van fibreglass work and wants to branch out. He's talking of doing Holden stuff. But I contacted him about creating a set of moulds and doing a run of about 10 to 15 sets for 240K owners. And he is keen. His prices for the Bedford bits seem cheap so I'm hoping for the same for us.

As we have already been talking prices here, I don't want to point him here yet. Perhaps if we can come up with a list again over the next week. I can approach him with pictures and numbers of what we want and see what he comes up with.

Here is the previous list. Post your additions or subtractions after this message And I will have a chat with him in a week.

Of course, then we still have to problem of finding originals to make molds from. Again, perhaps the best discount can be offered to those suppling originals.

I am also looking for the correct brake light surrounds (can they be made as well?)
I have been trolling yahoo auctions for a long time and have only ever seen them attatched to tail lights(new)and usually run around 1k.(too much).
have every thing else(except reargtr badge, gtr tail light surrounds, and steering wheel) any one with these things let me know if you want to sell.

DO you have a picture of the light surrounds? Is it the black and crome part you are thinking of? Or the beaver panel itself? If its the crome bits, then we would have to find both sides to make a mould with mounting points. Does it look like any parts in the pitcure?

Guys don't forget to add your location when you want something. I will tlk to the bloke about postage as well. That way we can work out whether it's easier for him to do it or a local club freind.

i would be very keen on a set of the tail light surrounds too it is the last remaining item on my GT-R shopping list

I attempted to buy a few when i had a contact in japan, but i always fell short, even around the $1250 mark! (probably a good thing though.. it was impulsive at the time, and needless to say a waste of money for a bit of plastic)

Perhaps somebody could replicate them from a photo (maybe in clay or something to take a mould from?)? the mounts etc are all the same as the non-GTR..

    anyone got any ideas?

I was hoping to cast them in two pieces, front and back, then glue them together, I'm not sure how thick the lenses covers are, this would determine whether I use glass or resign.

    Hi Guys,
Ben came back with an offer regarding the bits. He will make the mould and pay for the freight for anyone suppling the parts to make the moulds from. Here is his starting prices:

    flares - $220
    grill - $200
    Bob tail - $120
    Front Apron - $80

The grill would be without the steel backing.

    Your thoughts?

Sounds fair enough, but I would think some one would need to uploads some pictures of a complete grill to show how the mesh is attached

unfortuantely that was the good thing about Challange, He went out and found an almost exact copy of the mesh that the fibreglass copy i gave him had..

it will be interesting to see how different the original is.

I sent him pictures to look at which is what he quoted from. The prices seem fair and going back thru this post, they are actually cheaper. I'm keen for a set or two.

Kid-K has kindly offered his flares for mould preparation. So the question is: Does anyone have a Grill, Front and Rear Spoiler to send down to Melbourne?

The other option is to see if Challange would sell their moulds. Ben suggested it. I don't think Phil would be up for it. Is anyone on talking terms with Phil still?

If you are in any hurry for them (say, in the next 5 years), just import some from Japan.

    nice work

Hey I'm thinking of making some reproduction badges at work. I'm only missing the interior " 240k [ GT ] " badge and the " GT R " badge for the rear. Would any one be interested in copies if it works well? I'm mainly doing it for my own purposes but i thought i might see if there is any interest in reproduction badges.

I would be, depending on cost, and how well they turn out.

what will they be made out of and will they be painted, or just 'blanks' ?

I'd buy a Skyline beaver panel badge depending on quality, could you make a beaver badge with custom wording on it?

Ive got a mint SKYLINE + DATSUN badge to mold from but custom would take a LOT of time i could almost certainly do it if it uses the letters A D E I K L N S T U Y because i can mold and move them around it may be possible to do other letters but that would be a full custom job and require me to "make it up" but not impossible

    Nice collection!

Luckily, i have on old and abused 240K interior GT badge ( i presume you mean from the door cards, in which case arn't they there in the top right of the pic?), along with a NOS KPGC110 rear beaver panel complete with GT-R badge and skyline badge.. of course i am not willing to rip them off, but i could probably somehow scan them.

could you in theory make the rear tail light surround too?

oh ok.. i have a C110 240K GT door trim badge floating around somewhere.

Are JPG scans any good for you?

i am in for a set of the light surrounds if you do work them out.. i kf you can work out the plastic process i am sure they wouldn't be hard to make up (i would have thought it would be easier than a detailed badge). Atleast the raised bar's are easy to work out their location based on the screw holes on the rear

I have the 240L GT Door badge as shown in my logo. You can borrow that to take a mould from. I have just come back from Melbourne with a panelvan and trailer load of 240k bits. One is my original brand new Skyline Beaver panel. I shall have a look how hard it is to get the badges off. (Skyline & GTX2000)

I think I already sent you pics of the 240K GT badge.

thanks and i will try to get the process perfect soon its just hard to make a mold where it doesn't stick, is stiff, takes a precise mold and doesn't wreck the badge but I'm sure ill find the right material :>

Buy some "pinky sil" from any fibre glass shop. Use a sillicon spray to release badge.
