lookin good! let us know how things go!
Well it's not done yet ,but the hard part is done ,I hope. I need to make a final decision on mufflers or just glasspacks. And the decision on tips-that's going to be tough. I can't wait to hear it run.

It look's great!
The only thing I see that could be a pain is if you have to take
out the tranny the exhaust system will have to come out. Maybe a one or two flanges would help.

Nice job there. I can't wait to see the finished product. I'd like to do something similar when I mount my 6 into 2 Clifford header.
I plan on putting a flange on the mufflers right now ,but still thinking about that. As it is, the whole set up just slides off the header in one piece.I would hope that after disconnecting my mufflers i will be able to drop the exhaust down in a complete assembly since the pipes do not run over anything.

Nice job! Maybe a flange coming off the header pipes would be a good idea. They won't just slide off that easily after a while, especially if they are clamped. You could still drop it in one piece easy enough since you have good support at the halfway point, at the X-crossover. For transmission removal you would be able to undo it at the flange and swing it over and out of the way enough without dropping it completely. Keep us posted on how you finish it up.

So Marty,
those clamps sqeeze the pipe over a larger area so you don't crimp the pipe? That would be sweeet and improve my chance of pulling the pipes off in one piece. I've seen those clamps before but have no experience with them.

I have pretty much the same headers as you, and the clamps that Marty posted are the ones I plan to use when I get around to installing my headers. I feel they will make for a cleaner install.
I like how you did the system. for me a pair of supertraps coming out where the BRE's did in the center would look kinda cool..

I've been checking out these clamps at summit and Jegs. I guess they have 2 types-one a lap type and the other a butt type. I'll have to figure out how they size the lap type to install my pipes to the header. I am using the sleeves from the collector MSA provided that slide over the header.
The butt type will be nice for in the back for seperating the exhaust system in 2 pieces. I'm glad you guys brought this up about the clamps.
How about some tips on glasspacks. I was wondering how the exhaust tone changes with the length of a glasspack. I will be able to fit from 12" to 18" glasspacks .I assume the longer the can ,the quieter the sound??? How much affect does the tip have on the sound???

Wow, those are some nice pipes. That would be a dual setup that I would love to have.
What diameter pipes are those?

Looking great!
Yes Steve, longer is quieter on glass packs. My red car has a single 24" glasspack on it. The muffler is 2", the pipes are 1 3/4". (Not my favorite part of the car, performance-wise. But that's what the original owner put on it. And after all, it's only a stock L24.) Anyway, with only that muffler on it and the small diameter pipe, it's not too loud, and has a nice mellow tone. Burbles and pops on deceleration, too.
Your pipes look like 2 1/4" to me. If so, I'd put 18" on it for street driving. The larger pipes will make it louder, so more muffler might be better.
Thanks Arne,
thats the kind of info I need since I don't mess with exhaust too much. Those pipes are 2" all the way. I wanted to keep them small but also match up with the MSA header collector. I think anything bigger is way overkill. I am only running the p-30 but it is modified. I was looking for a different sound and look out the back. Plus I have only heard good things about crossovers so I incorporated that in the mix. Plus with my set up ,I can split the pipes on either side of the gas tank. Who knows, maybe the performance gain will be more then enough to offset the additional weight![]()
I feel lucky that it has came out so good so far since i only screwed up one mandrel bend.

Sounds good. With 2" I'm pretty comfortable that a pair of 18" should do the trick. The cross-over should even out the pulses and smooth the exhaust note. I'd love to hear it when it's done.
The system looks great I cant wait to hear it. I want that system on my Z. Its looks alot better then the one from MSA and looks like it fits better to. Good luck I hope to do one on mine this summer at my local custom shop.
When I get the exhaust completely done ,I would put down a complete list of pipe bends i used. I ordered everything from Stahl Headers , there prices are reasonable and there were friendly to deal with. The pipe is 18 guage which was fine for me to keep weight down . And I was hoping to use this set-up as a templete for maybe a SS version later. The cost was atleast double++ for SS and I would have been pissed screwing up a 40$ piece of SS pipe.

Sorry I let this thread go! I started posting on here and Hybrid and I let this thread go by the wayside.
I did finish and i am driving my twice piped engine and i couldn't be any happier. It is hard to describe the sound, but a friend said it sounded Ferrari-esk. I had some folks say that the inline 6 would sound funny with duals, but it is simply dreamy to drive.
In the end I wound up using 12" resonators and 12" magnaflows to keep the sound under control. By no means is this a quiet exhaust and there is still drone noise between 2200 and 2500 rpm, but I have learned to stay out of that range when feasable. The intention of the crossover pipe was to help eliminate the drone and resonance, but I' not sure if it had any effect. It is also hard to say whether it improve performance-but what a sound! At 3000 and above the sound is beautiful and quiet. At highway cruisin-70mph+ I am in that magic zone and the sound is exotic more then loud.
I did wind up using the band clamps at the collectors at the header and at the resonators -so 4 clamps and i can remove the whole mid section of the exhaust-and i have already.
Would I change anything-maybe removing the crossover so i could run longer resonators might soften the drone. Also some ansa tips might remove a slight cackle i get at the tips that sound metallic and you swear your hearing valves tapping.
I am still tuning on this motor so the end results of all this exhaust work still might show. I dynoed at Zcon at 155hp and torque with my motor running out of gas at5100rpm. Hopefully with some tweeking and this free flowing exhaust I will show some very decent numbers at the next dyno run.
Here is a small clip of the exhaust that I believe was complete with resonators at the time. I will try an in car down the highway some time.

thats so beautiful
i was thinking the same thing gunny. i have a single 2.25 inch piping through a cat, and a glas pack at the very end and mine sounds decent but it really sounds amazing at its high RPM range.

Love what you've done with your exhaust man! I'm that close to doing it on my car, I'm waiting for my current exhaust to expire so I can justify the changeover.
Cheers.

Very Nice! But what about heat!? Looks like you would have a toasty floorboard!
haven't noticed a heat issue at all. Free flowing mandrel bends keep the heat moving.

Hi Steve, What were the resonators? Were they glass-packs or someting else (could you give me the part #s)? I have a Magnaflow round 5" on a 2 1/2" exhaust and want to quiet it just a bit. It sounds great, but is just a touch too loud.
Thanks.
Cheers, Mike
I've ordered everything from summitt. For me it was the smallest 2"resonators I could find for my confined space. They are 12" long, but if you have room go bigger. They are 3" diameter also-again not much room. You might ask some other guys or search resonators for folks who have solved there resonance issues-they might have a good solution. My exhaust is so different that the it might not applie to your situation.
There is a difference between glasspacks and resonators-so do some search on those also.

Been a while since I posted on this thread
Well the glasspacks were getting loud and not controlling resonance like they used to. They were only about 20$ each, so I got what I paid for. I bought these magnaflow 4" round mufflers to replace the glasspacks. Hopefully all the SS will hold up longer. Too bad the engine is apart and I can't hear the upgrade.
I have been so happy with the sound of this exhaust that i don't regret the time and money it took to do it. Don't know if it does anything to help performance, but I know it doesn't hurt the performance.
