Default What year Zcar do you own?

It looks like most of our members are balanced between ownership of the 1971 and 1972 Zcar. Have you voted on this survey yet? Please vote even if you don't own a Z. We are all watching this survey with great interest!

You can vote on the main page. Surveys are located on the right side menu bar. You might need to scroll down to see the survey completely.

    [UPDATE 3-5-2002]
Things have changed! It now looks like '72 and '73 ownership is higher than anyone else. But, it looks like we've got a LOT of members that own cars between '71 and '73.

    Cool

I am the fortunate owner of a 1972 Z. However, in spite of my efforts mother nature has taken her toll and I am in the process of a complete restoration.

Stock, orange '72. I really like this car! although it will never replace my 59 ghia , sorry guys. I spent the better half of 15 years building this car! But must admit in 15 years the Z may be my favorite! Ya never know miracles do happen!

    Default 4 Z/ZX

I have 2 '72 Zss, a red one with now black interior is under restauration an a yellow one with now white interior ( that was originally in the red one).
My first restauration was a black/silver '81 280 ZX 2+2 with original total black interior. When my wife found some bills from my 240 Z's restauration she asked for a fur coat and some jewellerie for Christmas. I decided to give the 280 ZX to her for her birthday in November. She likes the car, but normally I drive it. My daily long distance driver is a '88 300 ZX Turbo 2+2 and for the city I use a Nissan Micra (March in the US I think).

I own a 72 that I bought new. I took delivery in Feb of 72. It was built in October of 71. We have had a few good times together. We have raised kids together and now they are waiting for me to die so they can fight over it

I have a 76 as well. In fact I'm just enrolling in night school do do a body work and painting course, that way I can get rid of some 26 years of rust. Once that and the running gear is sorted out then I'm getting an RB20 half cut.

    Cool

My Z is a 1972, re-painted Porsche yellow. Virtually stock except for wheels and stereo. Working on a complete restore and get it back to that original powder yellow. Anyone know what the real name/number of that yellow is(was)?

    Default I love my Z

My car is 14 years older than me!

I have a 71 240z. It's one of the early ones that weigh less. It has the 240z badge behind the window, other badge on the rear hatch. I wish it was that origonal sexy a s s orange color in stead of green.

I have a 73 240Z with a very late VIN number. It has the good carbs and is all orginal except the wheels and stereo. The clock even works!

    Lightbulb Let the record show.

For the record even though I own a 72 had a 73. My perfect Z would be a 69 build 70 registered 240z. Actually my perfect Z would be a 432R but that's another post.

I'm a sucker for the hatch vents and dash differences. Also the fact that it's lighter and has a higher comp cylinder head also interests me.

The downside no stowage compartments behind the seats. Can you guys tell me if your 70-71 has these or not????

    Gavin,
I have a '71 240Z (Series I) with a build date of Jan. 1971. I do not have the storage bins, just the plastic covers behind the seat. The only disadvantage to these (that I can tell) is that getting to the jack is a little tough because the seats do not fold forward. But then again how times do you have a flat?

I'm with you though, I like the different qtr emblems (240Z) and the rear hatch vents. Helps keep it from "looking" like any other 70's model Z.

    kmack,
My build date was 5/71. I do have the storage compartments in back. Is this considered series 1 or 2?

    Sapruns,
Based on the fact that you have the storage compartsments in the rear deck, then you should have a Series II 240Z.

The first year 240's (70 models) and the first few months of the '71 models were Series I cars. January of '71 appears to be the crossover point for Nissan. There have been a few discussions here awhile back that can give good descriptions on what was changed from the Series I cars to the Series II cars.

    Basically, if you have
    - the cabin air vents on the hatch (instead of behind the qtr windows),
    - plastic tool covers behind the seats (instead of the tool storage bins in the rear deck),
    - cigarette lighter in the console (instead of in the dash),
    - choke lever in the center of the console (instead of on the side)

then you most likely have a Series I car.

    Cool

1973 240z. Of course, it has '72 donor parts...most notibly, the su's!! However, I am in the middle a ground up restoration. Car is totally stripped...and was just soda blasted to bare metal last week.

VERY daunting, this whole restoration business. Taking apart is easy....putting back together....!?

Things have changed! It now looks like '72 and '73 ownership is higher than anyone else. But, it looks like we've got a LOT of members that own cars between '71 and '73.

1972, numbers matching. Looking to do a "resto mod" job - stock looking with some "stealth" mods underneath. Previous owner started this - 5 speed, 4.11 R180, and I think a "hotter" cam, but that I am not sure about.

About 20 years ago, I had a nice 1976 280Z that was mildly worked - pulled a 15.2 quarter mile, so not bad, but not stock.

Love the 240Z, it holds as much love and respect from me as my 1966 Jag XKE!
