Remove the starter and put a flathead screwdriver in a flywheel gear till it locks against the tranny housing. Torque the crank bolt to spec. This obviously takes two people.
The last time I tightened the cam and balancer bolts the engine was on a stand and easy to stop the crank from turning, now its in the car and I need to tighten them up, but not real sure how to do it with just one person, Any suggestions?

Remove a sparkplug and feed in a short length of nylon rope. Torque to spec after the rotating assembly cannot turn.
I like the rope idea, I'll give it a whirl, thanks.

Just make sure you leave the end of the rope outside the engine, preferably tied to something that doesn't fit through a spark plug hole (like a big washer, or the firewall)![]()
Captain, good idea. Thanks.

I used the nylon rope stuffed into the #1 cylinder, worked like a charm.
