O.K so here it is, my new car
(well, it was new in 1974 lol)
Datsun 240K
Came off the road and has been in storage since 2002, gave her a hose off today, did the once over on the engine bay too...looks great (but forgot a pic...)
Here are some pics.
Bummed about the Auto trans, Oh and the pop up sunroof, but Hey! it is a 70's car!!
Interior is next to clean, needs new carpet then do the work for the roadworthy cert...
Needs some minor rust repairs around the rear screen, and lower 1/4's but should pass o.k with a touch up and blow over of colour for now..
hope you like.

HA! Nice car...
I sold this car about 5 years or so ago now.
I fitted those rims/tyres and electronic distributor. Still got the pics in my old phone!
I bought it from a guy in Lynbrook whose mother had it for years!
Drove quite well too, not bad at all, from memory body was very straight and interior very good too.
Well done, PM me if you're interested in catching up, I'm in Cranbourne.

Vic has always had a big Datto following.
I remember back in like 1990 - 1991 when I was first starting to drive, there was already a healthy Datto following, lots of modded J tin around then!
Getting some bits together for the KHGC, got carbs, and some body kit pieces from a couple of good blokes here in this forum!!
Cheers!
And today I ordered my new number plates.
I like the vic roads 3 x 3 plates, they have that old school look that I was after, and as luck would have it the combo I wanted was available, so I ordered them!
Now I know that the chasis number goes KHGC110, but was limited to 3 letters 3 numbers.
...and besides KHG-110 looked better that HGC-110.
Not bad at $295 when everyday slimline plates are $68 or some ****!
Hey Tokerman, I was flicking through your pics again when I noticed that you bought the car from Evan, I originally bought my car off Evan as well. My coupe was originally stripped of glass, doors, chrome, engine and gearbox to complete your car....hope all that came with your buy, good luck......Kid-k
Hey torkerman, nice buy. Do you have any larger pics of the 110 in your profile pic?
Hi, Know Evan for awhile, he does deliveries for the Hot Rod place next to our factory, that's how we found my coupe. He saw the sedan outside one day and told us that he a K in storage that was going to the crusher if nobody wanted...but as you know it was striped of all the good parts and the front end panels where all damaged as well...$350............. I think it came out OK!
Hey Kid K, PM me your mobile number, I got my coupe on the road (laughable when compared to yours though!), my kids & I would love to see your beast in the flesh sometime! Cheers

O.K, a couple of pics..
I restored all the badge work off the car.
They were all faded and the remaining paintwork inside the badges was cracked and ****ty, so gave them a once over.
the large "240K GL" badge is usually a grey surround with white letters, but I went for black with White and Red letters.
I used some anno paint in Red for the small GL ones, and it looks pretty standard, and hit the smaller 'Datsun' one from the bootlid with the anno paint over the crhome letters, and after I had re done the black.
Happy with them for now

what is the colour you used for around the "Datsun" badges? Did you match it to the original? I am trying to sort a colour for my rear tail light panel
1974 Datsun KHGC110 240K GT Hardtop
I used 'Metal Amour' Satin Black, Its a no primer needed Epoxy satin black. if you use std matt or satin black it will come off pretty easy, but the epoxy stuff seems to hang in there pretty well. I couldn't match theOG ones as all the paint had faded/washed off.
Wiped the badge over with Metho, let dry, then a few good coats of black, then carefully wipe off the raised areas with a rag moistened with metho.
DON'T USE THINNERS!! these are plastic and the thinneds with remove the chrome finish too!
Am going to do my Grill this same colour, leaving the chrome highlights around the 2 grille openings and around the lights too.
For the rear panel, I will look for a satin finish in a dark grey, black would be too much I think, BUT I will remove it and soak it in wd 40 for a day or too, this may bring the colour back enough for me not to have to paint it...and I will give the rear 240K GL badge the same finish as the front.
Just a small update..
Restored the grille, new paint etc..
grille fitted...
some minor rust works,
...some extra parts that i came across..
This is a 4dr rear section, I actually like the look of these lights better (Not sure if 4dr panel will fit coupe??)
But was planning to do a JDM tail light mod (change reverse light for second stop/tail, then make the small brake light into a reverse light..)
Spoilers from Kent (CHAMP!!)
Just got to work out how to fit the front lip spoiler?????
No holes in it, edge seems to thin to screw on? not sure on that one yet.
Cheers!
Adam.
My front lip is the same no idea how im gong to mount it, probably just leave it for the body shop to worry about lol.
Your cleaned up grill looks good, i was going to do the same with the crome but have just gone all black as the stocker will just be a spare for me, will post pics when i get it back.

Damn!! I was just going to bleach mine....
Thats intense!
Looking good Adam! I'm pretty sure the actual 4dr panel won't fit the coupe.

4 door tail light panel will definately not fit your coupe, I know first hand as had both at once. The lights are exactly the same, the outer ring on the coupe lights (which make it look bigger) unscrews with 4 x phillips heads holding it on.
Also on JDM lights both outer ring lenses are flat (like the clear portion on OZ ones.)
BTW what colour did you use for the grille? Is that a flat gun metal/silver? who makes it?

The paint is flat black.
Its called Metal Amour by TREMCO
Love this stuff!
You can put it on real thick, goes off nice and hard, no primer needed!!
Also unlike others I have used, it sprays evenly right untill the can runs dry.
Thanks for the lights heads up mate![]()
you can make anything fit.....
That's cool I rate that! I didnt even pick up on that when I first saw pics of the finished project! Looks so clean![]()

So a quick update for y'all...
Was starting to look a little sad...
..So we gave her a blow over in Classic White
And gave her a new set of boots too! I was worried about the charchol centres on these rims, but actually really like the look!
(IT'S STILL ON THE JACK - LOOKS HIGH)
Thanks, Adam.
Hi Adam,
the only front spoiler that i have seen actually mounted to the car used 2 (or three, can't quite remember) brackets that attached to the spoiler and to the front of the car. they were almost L's but shaped to suit. They had also glued the top of it to the body using some type of mastic/silicon..

update?
Wanted: Hardtop interior pieces
Not much to tell I'm affraid.
mix in a career change, a long term illnes, and some family striff into the 240k mix = not much done!
Basicaly I put it up on stands, painted all the suspension and inner guards black, sanded and polished most of the stainless trims, now I have the LH inner 1/4 panel trim off to try and replace the LHR window that was missing.
No pics for the next few weeks untill I can move some crap to get back to the coupe
Sorry, I really need some peeps riding my arse to get this done, if left to my own devices it took take a while!!
cheers.
I may have some pics of the trim somewhere..
O.K so a minor update..
here she is in her new home..
Blacked under all guards, and hit the calipers with gold caliper paint...not too wanky is it??
Here are the screen trims I restored. They were really beat, scratched and the RH side had caught the door on the lower part and had bent it.
After panel beating (sorry no before pic) then a 1200 sand, a polish, and mask & respray the black, they came out o.k.
Hope to do more to her soon, now my schedule has cleared a bit.
Adam.
P.S I need some of the little metal clips that hold the rear screen trims in place, most broke when removing them (rusty) I tried Rare Spares and a datsun wrecker but no good. any help appreciated
Also I snagged some extra rims this week!!
These are 13 x 7 & 13 x 8, but sadly they are 100 x 4
These are 13 x 7.5 & 13 x 6 and are 4 x 114.3, so will keep these for a different look..
Cheers![]()
wish mine was up to this stage, did you get it regoed?
Wanted: Hardtop interior pieces
can you come do my grille like that! that looks great! did u mask all the chrome then spray it?
76' 240K - full resto project
Pretty long process.
First removed rust and polished chrome edges, then lightly sanded grille areas to be painted.
Then taped up all chrome edges (TOOK AGES!) and carefully trimed off excess with a scalple. then hit with some TREMCO and after a few coats looked like the above
I used blue painters masking tape as it is more pliable and leaves no residue when you remove it..it was on there for about 2 weeks.
SOOOOO Fly me to S.A and I will do yours![]()
Appologies for not being on here much, no real updates with the coupe.
I am almost finished renovating my house, have done kitchen bathroom, all new windows, dorrs, paint etc. Just got an ensuite to go, then back on the coupe.
I turn 40 next year and was going to go to Le Mans for my birthday, but have decided to take 3 weeks off work and get the 240K finished and on the road (historic rego at this stage)
Great to see some new projects going along here on the site
Adam
