Default Ten best sports cars of the 70's

I just picked up the latest (July 2004) issue of Sports Car International since it had this cover story that caught my eye. They had six different panelists pick their top ten sports cars of the 70's. Even though everyone had other cars as their top choices, the 240Z was the only car that made everyone's list. Because of this the overall rankings came out as follows:

    1. Ferrari Daytona [41]
    2. Datsun 240Z [35]
    3. Lamborghini Countach [25]
    4. Lamborghini Miura SV [19]
    5. Ferrari 308 [18]
    6. Ferrari Dino [17]
    7. Mazda RX-7 / Porsche Carrera RS (tie) [14]
    9. De Tomaso Pantera / BMW M1 (tie) [12]

The number in brackets is the total score where a first place vote was worth ten points and a tenth place vote 1 point.

...so an average of 6th place. Not bad for something costing less than half or 1/4 of (ALMOST) everything else on the list (damn that 7). And something viewed as an 'economy' car built by those Japanese. Now, even though SPI is an American publication (right here in CA), they try very hard to maintain an 'international perspective'. It reads like a European publication. So I would not expect them to have 'American values' towards Japanese sports cars. Can you imagine a 'truly' american rag putting the 240Z in the top ten?

Technically, if the RX7 is a car of the 70s, doesn't that make the 240Z a car of the 60s? Let's not go there!!

What an acheivement. I find it strange that the top SIX cars are Italian, except for our precious Z. That's great.

I read that article as well. I subcribe to SPI and I think it is a great magazine. No minivan and truck reviews. I also subscribe to Car and Driver, and that is an informative and interesting publication as well, but the cars are not always as interesting.

The picture of the orange 240z in this issue is a great shot, but I did not know that it was a photo taken by Nissan.

I guess I'd better move my Countach out of the garage and move the 240Z in
