I'm very sorry to hear this. I never got a chance to meet Carl in person. I was once in his area at a picnic and invited him to come visit me and get some free food. He was driving there and his car (not the Z) broke down so he had to return home.

Wow! I didn't know him personally, but Carl knew his stuff and I learned of him many, many years ago when I wanted to rebuild my first Z. He will definitely be missed.

That's truly a shame. He was a wealth of knowledge and willingly shared it with all on this site.
    You'll be missed, Carl.

If you do a search for screen names and why you chose them there is a post by Carl about how he 'accidently' came into his name via one spoked dear. Can't remeber the whole post, but I do know the car made out bad.

I had a spirited agrument or two in the past with Carl, but we always discussed it and settled it off of the site. Like many others have said, my prayers are with him and he will be missed.

    Default More info....

I spoke with Carl's Mom today. She said it was a heart attack. He was with a friend mid week and the friend had dropped back by the house later in the week and found him.

We spoke a little about his enjoyment of the Z car and I told her that he was very helpful to many people on and off this site regarding their own Z's. She seemed glad to hear that he was helpful. I'm not sure I could ease her pain much but I tried. Even as a parent myself, I can't imagine what losing a child must be like.

Carl's request for donations to the Humane Society stems from having had a strong love of cats. He always had one or two and just this year had to put one of his oldest ones to sleep which pained him greatly. He even took in the occasional stray when he could manage it.

I know that many of the members here were sometimes taken aback by his strong personality. I was at first. I guess he and I became friends because we're a lot alike.

Carl often came across as a "know-it-all" but that was just Carl. He strove for perfection in everything "240Z". As some of you have mentioned, he had a vast amount of knowledge about the car.

It may surprise some of you, but last April when my Dad died, Carl was extremely caring and supportive. We talked at long length about the effect losing a parent has on an individual. I learned a lot about the man. And it was all good.

I salute his military service, his devotion to his Mother, his expertise with Z cars and his compassion towards animals.

I will sorely miss him. The older brother I never had. I just wish I'd known him longer.

    Peace,

    Chris A.

I am shocked by the news. I just sent Carl a joke by email about a week ago I think. We used to forward jokes to each other. Especially the dirty ones. He particularly like those. lol.
Sold him a set of Mulholland springs. Don't know if he ever got them installed.
I know he liked cats too. I also had to put my 14 yr old cat to sleep 2 years ago. That was rough.
Oddly it is exactly one year ago today that another friend died while riding his Harley to an annual HOG fest here in Wisconsin.
I will miss your bad jokes Carl. We had fun.

A good man, Bambikiller was . . . A lot of knowledge to share with all. I will miss his posts. I take solace in knowing that he went quickly and didn't suffer through some lingering illness. Carl, may God smile upon you and let you drive the Z on those streets paved with gold.

I found Chris's post right after he he put it up, and have been thinking of what to write ever since, and it has finally come to me.

With Carl, he never hid what he thought, so you always knew where you stood. Diplomacy was not his strong suit, but honesty was. He took friendship as a great reponsability, and had great fun with it until seriousness needed to be had. It takes a strong man to say what he feels and still be supportive when his feelings are in opposition to that action. I didn't know Carl that long, but I am glad my life was graced with his.
Carl had words with several here, but I think most of them realized that if what ever the issue was not important to him, he would not have wasted the effort. He cared about people, and more often than not that ment being tough(even abraisive) with them. He and I poked fun at each other and conversed about things that were troubling to him somewhat frequently-on and off post. His posts (those that were not removed for being "argumentative") reveal a good bit about him, he knew Zs, wanted the best from people, had very distinct and clearly defined opinions and was mighty quick to fervently defend them. Carl loved this club to the point of supporting it by giving freely of his time to do several jobs in it for as long as he could. One of his greatest personal losses was backing off from his committments here.
Carl loved dirty jokes, and silliness, I wonder what they will actually find in his garage...

Carl was my friend that I never got to meet. Most of the PM's on this site in my account were to, or from Carl.

I enjoyed his Libertarian viewpoint, his humor, his defence of others, and his relentless badgering of "know-it-all" posters.

Carl told it like it is. I liked that, though I'm sure others didn't.

    DAMN IT SUCKS!

While I am shocked at the news as most of us are and agree that Carl was very helpful and knowlegeable on the Z, I am the type of person who after being duped once before by a so called death of an enthusiast here I approach this with caution. ChrisA, this is not a slam on you!!! If it is true then My condolences for Carls family in their loss and I pray that Carl rests in peace. If it is not true...then you all can fill it in. I really don't want to be negative because it is so possible.

While I understand your thought, I don't get the connection. Carl wasn't trying to defraud or hide from anyone, and as far as I know faking his death would not accomplish anything for him, the only thing I can find that some people believe he owed was apologies-I think his response to your post would have been something to the effect of: either "ten characters": or, far more probably, he would have told you in photographic detail where to go, what to do when you got there, and how long to keep doing it, and then posted a picture to make sure there was no confusion about the instructions-you would have had only moments to see his response before it would have been gone, and his next post would have been help for a problem on YOUR z.

Wow! Thank you for the post Chris, I had no idea. I have missed his posts on this site for a long time now, he was such a wealth of information and always willing to help and answer even the simplest of questions (no matter how stupid they may have been...I know because when I was new here I asked my fair share!). We will all miss you and everything you contributed to us all.

I bet he was hitting 80 when he slammed the handbrake on to slide sideways just before those pearl coated gates.

I had first-hand knowledge of the "other" incident and I believe this has nothing to do with that kind of garbage.

I didn't know Carl that well (never got on his bad side), but he emailed me often about the magazine and Z's. He was also the first to notice problems with the "other" incident that helped me to put the puzzle together. When you say he was a no bull kind of guy, you are correct, he could see the bull coming and wasn't afraid to point it out.

I don't often post on this site, but I'm here everyday and I will surely miss his presence.

I wish that I could have met him -- he was just too young to die. I lost my father in April and an 8 year-old nephew last August. It can be very hard on family and friends, even when you know it is coming. Lately I've missed his valuable information and the fact he was always willing to jump in to a good debate on a wide range of topics, not just Zs. I had high hopes he was going to become a regular on this site again. I'll also miss sharing a good laugh with him off-site via e-mail on matters political (many of them aimed at a well-known world leader). My deepest sympathies to all his family and friends. Gary

Enjoy your rest, Carl. You deserve many rewards.

Carl was very free with help to me, even after he removed his posts from this club. I have missed him and will continue to. If I can pass on the favors he gave me, then it will be to his credit and good will. Good man!

Carl has helped me out with gobs of information and I have bought parts for my Z from him and have missed him on this site for quite some time. He will be sorely missed. I don't even think he owes anyone an apology. The world should not have to have sugar coated answers to every question asked. If you get offended because someone answered your question whether blunt and to the point or not you need to get a life. If you don't want to know the answer, don't ask the question. The only connection to the "faked" death postings is that someone else (obviously) posted it here. While I knew my post wouldn't be popular, I am just a cautious person. In this time of loss, My intention wasn't nor is it to offend anyone. If I did I am truly sorry.

I wasn't offended, just confused, but, more importantly, I thought Carl would have been offended. Your reply sounds like you know what you could have expected from Carl as a reply.

This is certainly some sad news. I was disapointed when Carl stopped contributing to our club as well. He was very helpful to me with a few private emails on how to fix some stuff on my car. Pretty cool for a guy I barely even knew. God Bless his soul.

For the record his halted participation was only partly voluntary. He was banned from the site in late April of this year and his account was completely deactivated buy the admin of the site against his wishes.

I was debating whether or not it would be appropriate to mention this here but there have been several hints that he deserted the site and I thought the situation should at least be partly clarified. It is a VERY long story, and impossible to tell here due to the active censorship of the admin. I'm personally getting a little tired of having all of my posts deleted so I think I'll sign off as well.

Conversations with Carl reminded me a lot of conversations with my father. Don't ask a question, and expect a sympathetic answer. Answers were always straight shots that may make your day, or rub you the wrong way if you were the sensitive type. Did not know Carl well, other than some conversing with him through this site. He seemed to be a "what you see is was you get" kind of fella. I admired that. Rest In Peace Carl. You will be missed.

Very sorry to hear about the passing of Bambi Killer. You could almost always guarantee that when you read a thread, his contribution would be there. From reading everyone's messages here, it sounds like he spent most of his days and nights on here helping people.

I never met the man but, I have lots of help from him and others. But I know all to well that 54 is too young, my cousin died of an enlarged heart at 18. Death comes to soon in life and here is a quote " life is like a box of chocaltes you never know what your gonna get". And to the family of to whom we knew as " Bambikiller" death is a part of life even though it is hard to bear it comes for all of us, R.I.P. Bambikiller.

Although I did not know Carl personally, I think we can all agree that we knew, well, what a fine, sincere, person he was through his contributions to this site.

When Carl stopped contributing to this forum on a regular basis, many expressed concerns for his well being, and tributes to what he has meant to this club.

I am certain that Carl read our concerns and expressions of gratitude for his many insightful contributions, and knew how much he was appreciated and respected.

Thanks, Carl, and Peace Be With You, Always.

Carl will be missed, I may have been in and out of the site. But have spent what could be months or maybe even a year total with my butt logged into this site. Of that time I would almost always took the time to look over his postings. We didnt see eye to eye on everything but I feel thats one of the main reasons I will miss him so.

    Default Final thoughts....

I thought I'd finish this thread with some final thoughts.

Carl's Mom called me today. Carl's sister printed out all our responses on this thread and those on the link Enrique posted. She asked me to thank all of you for the "very kind words" we left about Carl. She said it made her feel a lot better and "warmed her heart".

He was buried at St. Augustine cemetary in Pleasanton along with the ashes of his beloved cat "Momma". It was a family only service but I assured her that Carl's friends were there in spirit.

I told her that I'd promised Carl I would get out to Cali and visit him someday. She told me to come visit her too! I told her it was a date.

From myself, I'd like to thank all of you also for the kind words.

    Chris A.

P.S. Will, you wondered what they might find in his garage? Sometime I'll PM you and tell you.

This very sad news. I can't believe I've missed this thread for over 3 weeks!

I feel priviledged having actually met Carl. On one of my trips to a school in Northern California, Carl and I got together and hung out for a day. We had a great time. He offered plenty of advice and help when I was searching for my Z and when I found one down around L.A. he offered to go take a look at it even though he lived something like 6 or so hours away.

He was a good man and I will always admire his honesty and willingness to help others.

Bummer. Carl will definitely be missed. I was really looking forward to meeting him one day being that we live in relatively the same area. I truly enjoyed reading his posts and watching the sensitive get all worked over some of them. His contributions were often both insightful and on some occasions inspiring. Carl was definitely a straight shooter. See ya in the big Z house in the sky Carl!
