    Disapointed.

I spent the best part of half an hour in the toy section of Big W today, rummaging, and I mean RUMMAGING through all the Hot Wheel models. By the time I was finished, there were more models on the shelf below than there were left on the pegs but, all to no avail. Guess we down under types will have to wait a little longer.

Another bloke, about my age, who was also looking at the models, commented to me that; "It's great having a grandson isn't it?. It gives us an excuse to play with cars huh ?".

While not the Hot Wheels example, this place has a nice selection of die cast cars:

Well, I went into the local Wal Mart and bought the only two I could find. 97 cents each! The packaging is a little different from what jmark posted but the cars are the same.

    Default me, too; me, too!

Stopped by Wally World and bought out their selection of 240z's (four!)
Couldn't stop there, though. I ended up with the triumvirate of Hot Wheels Nissans.
The 240, for those of you who haven't gotten one, is a left-hooker. That I expected.
The Skyline is a right-hooker, that too was expected.
The 350 is a right-hooker. That was not expected.

The 240 is great-very detailed. Rolls nice too.

Now, the Skyline is an unexpected treat-detailed more than expected. They've installed a carbon fiber hood, intercooler, and air intake (in the left headlight area-cool!) Add to that a roll cage, and the deal is done

The 350 has matte paint (better for absorbing radar) funky rims, and an outragous wing and an obnoxious red interior. Very riced out, but I just had to get all the Nissans.

Now there is a Yellow 240z, still #120, and still number 36 of 38.

    Cool Yellow Variation

For those crazy hotwheel collectors the yellow one is called a variation. There was one on ebay last night bringing $27.00 +. They (hotwheel collectors) believe that variations are accidents. Right!!!

That's just sad...It obviously isn't an accident. The window coloring in the white one is blue, while the yellow one has dark tinting that is almost black (not blue).
Why Hot Wheels chose to keep it as #36/38 is odd, since all it does is cause confusion. Maybe they should call the white on a Series 1 car, and the yellow a series 2...

    Exclamation Fanatics!

The number 36 indicates that the Z car is the 36th, (first edition), new car (not variation) out of 38, (first editions), new cars to be released for 2006. Variations create an additional market for collectors to have to buy the same car to complete a set of 2006 first editions. My youngest son was into collecting them for a couple of years starting back in 1998. Thank goodness that didn't last but a couple of years. Then there are series cars, each series consisting of 4 cars and a series released each month (48 cars). Then there are past years first editions painted in different schemes each year.
The regular hotwheel collectors are fanatics!
I could tell you some stories about the hotwheel fanatics, but they are so crazy you wouldn't believe them.

Yes, I have bought a half-dozen at the local Wally World for $.97 each WalMart gets new stock in every week so you should be able to find them if you check often. It took a couple of weeks before I found any, but then I was able to get all I wanted. My WalMart also had them in two locations, so if you go there, be sure to check the entire toy section for an additional rack!

Please tell me that you seperated the blister packs and repainted them! Do you know how many hours I'm going to spend looking for all those?!?!? Off to Wal-Mart I go!

i wonder if these have been repainted (and done very well), as so far (as far as I can tell), i have only found them in white or yellow (both with stripes and number 120) at the store. Also the bumper is not painted silver on the "factory" ones either. These look much better and I actually plan to repaint mine to match my cars as well!

Did you guys (Arne and a7dz) get these at the store or on eBay?

Just another reason to move back West...I imagine it's just a matter of time for the solid colored models to show up in the Eastern part of the country.
I guess I'll just have to keep going to the toy stores to check

The stores are filled with them now. ToysRUs and Walmart have lots of them, but only the white with stripes. I got 2 for my son's stocking-stuffer. Gregg thanks for offering to pick some up for me.

I hope everyone has a great Christmas if I dont get to tell you all later.

So to recap, I have a red one (which matches my car, very cool!); a7dz has an orange one (hey! that matches his car too); beandip has a yellow one (and what color is his car, do you suppose?)...

The rest is left as an exercise for the student.

upload your pic as a JPG and the thumbnail should show up.

I found the yellow one at a local Fred Meyer a couple months ago. I bought all of them... 7
I only opened one to give to my daughter to play with... and I drive it on ocasion too. I've never seen any since then or seen any other colors other than the Yellow with stripes that I have.

I know that I am late into the thread, but there was a special version at K-Mart as well. It is similar to the white and yellow witht he stripes, but the car itself is gray.

    Default Toy Z Cars

The new Hot Wheels 240Z is a nice looking model that some EBay sellers have offered with very cool custom paint and tampos. But my favorites are the Tomicas and Playarts. Some pics of toy Z cars I have collected can be seen at www.myzcars.com. But I love my 1:1 scale '78 280Z the most.

    Default Different Packaging

Now since I went shopping on Sunday, I stumbled upon a slight variation....

The wheels of the gray car (previous post) are now on the yellow where it is printed 'Datsun 240Z' vs '2006 New Models",

The back of the cards show them both as "2007 Models"

I too am late with this thread, but I was standing in line at wal-mart looking around at all the "impulse buy" stuff near the register, and saw the yellow one lying on the back of a shelf like someone picked it up and changed their mind. Naturally I bought it but never went back to see if they had any different ones.

I was at the Dollar Tree today and in the toy section is a twin pack of hotwheel type cars. One was a pickup and the other was a 240Z. It was packaged in a 7UP theme. The front seems to have good detail but the rear is totally off. I will go back and buy a few since they are different.

I found it on Sunday at my local Wal-Mart. It wasn't with the rest of the Hot Wheels. They have an area for the "Collectors". That is for people (like me) willing to pay $4 for a $1 toy.

Yep, local Wal-Mart. It was the only one they had. The only real difference between it and the others (white, yellow, gray/silver, blue) is the paint scheme and the chrome chassis and the 40th anniversary packaging. I guess that makes it worth more.

Okay, thanks. There weren't any lat the two Walmart stores I checked before, but at least I know to keep checking. And yes, $4 is a lot compared to the standard hotwheels price. But I can buy quite a few before I exceed the cost of a set of tires.

I've got that one. I'm waiting for the 2009 new models which should be out soon. #2 of 15 in that series is a blue 510 2dr.

That's actually what I was looking for when I came across this one. A couple months ago I got a couple of the blueish ones last posted by Stephen.

Hot Wheels has already released some of the 2009 models, so start looking!!

Default Ok, so it's not a 240 but still...

    So I found the 510!

Actually, I found 14 of them

It might be a bit of an obsession, but the way I look at it is this:
I found one at a WallyWorld. One isn't enough-got to have one in the blister pack, one to play with.

So then I found two more at Target. Well, that's fine, but what if I want to give some away as gifts?

So then I go to Kmart. No luck. Off to another Target, and that was the jackpot-11 of them. Might as well buy them all...

So Brian (bre-240z), don't bother going to the Target that's near Circuit City. They don't have any more...

And it's 37 of 42, by the way-makes it much easier looking for them.

While it's not a Hot Wheels, I found a die cast 1:24 scale 1972 Datsun 240Z while looking for a xmas pressy for my grandson.
Painted a nice, bright orange with wheel arch flares painted black, chromed engine, hood, doors and hatch open. Detail is passable but what more can you expect for $24.65 in Oz play dough. It's by JADA Toys.
    For anyone interested, their website is;

    www.JADATOYS.com

By the way, ... I've added it to MY collection and bought the grandson something else.

    Rick.

In a box somewhere I have a bunch of older issue Z cars. I even have one that is made in Poland and supposedly rare. Misspent money I think. No fun if you don't display them and I don't. I will take some pics of them soon...

Walmart has been good the last few days.
Found several of the Black 510's and just today the GTR

I've seen several collections from hot wheels that are make/model specific. I wonder if, now that they've released a good number of Nissan/Datsun vehicles, if they will release a set for us...

I bought the black 510 but passed on the GTR. Most all of my die cast and other models/toys are 'classics'. GTR's, 350/370Z's, etc., or any Ghosn era Nissan just don't fall in that catagory for me. There's 6 240Zs, 3 510s, a Cedric station wagon, a 1936 Phaeton, a Z32, a Z31, a 280ZX, a 280Z, a Mid-4, an L320 pickup (in the case), a Fairlady 1200 (on the case). Also in there is an old Zippo Datsun lighter from when I used to smoke. And a Jada 240Z and 510.

    Grownup...
It's a nice place to visit, but I could never live there!

A Z is beautiful from any angle, I just happen to prefer to view from the drivers' seat!
