    Default Car Of The Month

    Hi all,

just for a bit of fun, how about running a section called "Car of the Month".

I think it would be a way for members to show that someone has done a great job of maintaining/restoring an S30 car.

Maybe cars should be nominated by other members, or perhaps we can randomly generate 10 or 20 members' names each month and those can then be the candidates to be in the running that month (i.e. vote on those 10 or 20 cars).

Ok, I begin with nominating Alan Thomas' car (HS30-H)

I love that car.... Alan can I please have it when you get bored with it????

What do others think on this feature????

    Hi all,

just noticed that there is already a "ride of the month" thing running!!!

I apologize for the lack of attention on my behalf.

But perhaps we can change on the way it is run, just a suggestion.

    Hey Cuong,

Your idea is awesome. In fact, I've been considering the invent of something like this to make my life easier. The current system is set up based on a decision that I make. Ie: When it's time to change the ride of the month on the main page, I look through the galleries and make a decision. Right now, there aren't any rules and I make my decision based on quality of work, time spent on the system, amount of pictures posted, and basically a nice car.

I am totally up for automating the system so that users can vote. That will require some coding skills and time. I have the skills, but, I really don't have the time to create a new system. If anyone knows PHP and SQL, I'd love to hear from you. This is something that I think can be done. It will just take a little tweaking.

I have another idea Mike, this one will require no changes to programming or any type of long drawn out process.

How about if you send a PM to a member of your choosing and ask them to pick one? That will save a lot of time and hassles with programming the system, and will get an ecclectic mix of cars since everyones taste is different.

You just look around and see who is on the site at any particular time and ask them to pick one of their favorites and send it to you in an E-card which is already set up.

Voting would just cause more problems, as you may run into problems with a majority agreeing on one car in particular. Too many nice cars are in the gallery now. A large number of members choosing from that many cars is going to be confusing to say the least.

    Whacha think?

Don't let 2ManyZ's pick one. He doesn't know
what a running 240Z looks like

Acually I like the random car pick. When you start
getting into the Car of the Month stuff. You get
people voting for their friends, or the high dollar cars getting picked all the time.

I like hoew you picked EricB's car. He has been
working hard on it and isn't doing a frame off
    or show type car.

Well , if the requirements are a great looking shiny car.. I will never win this honor.. But perhaps those should be the requirements.. After all what I like to see in the R.O.M. is a nice car.. I don't really need to be featured. Unless you start a "rat" catagory. I like my car, but I don't put a lot of money into things to make it look better.

Very good idea. And one that doesn't necessarily need coding to accomplish. I will be happy to do the COTM selection each month. Just send $100 and a picture of your car (no checks or credit cards, please. CASH only) to:

How about COTWeek? Keep things moving... Everyone has a COTMonth! Kinda like having a amp that goes to 11 (everyone under 30, just ignore that...)! Spread the love around a bit.

    Default Paint???

I have a paint job! although it is about 8 cans of Rustolium white... I figured I might as well shoot it with something to at least slow down the additional rust.. Might not be pretty, but I have something to put my feet on.

Are you serious about painting your car with
spray cans ? If thats true you are the second
Z owner that has said that .

I wonder how many cans it would take me to paint
    mine

I prefer a Wagner Power Roller.

    Just kidding....

I need paint also, Spudz - I like your current color, it matches mine...

    Default Spray bombs

Yes I am.... I cannot afford the outrageous price from a body shop.... Heck most want more to paint the car than I paid for it... I would much rather put my money into parts that make the car run better. I am no body man ,, but the car looks good enough to drive..

I agree, mine is the same way.... I need to do something tho, primer is not waterproof and that concerns me... I may have to look into rustoleum Yellow....

What the heck, it's close enough to Ferrari yellow anyway.

    Default Paint

I was going to use a paint sprayer and shoot the rustoleum on that way. But the paint didn't harden very well.... The stuff in the spray cans gets real hard real fast.. Shoot it today, wet sand it tomorrow... I still need a little more work to be as good as possible (for me), but it looks good enough for now.. Remember tha hard pard is the surface prep... Total work = 95% surface prep 5% paint and polishing.

what grain did you use to wet sand, 1200? Now you have me curious...

As much as I don't think of this as my final way of doing this, it will protect it better for now, primer for a long time is not a good idea...

you never said how many cans...

And how many coats before you wetsanded???

    Default Cans

I used the 16oz cans they were on sale at Meijers. It took about 4 cans of primer, and 6 cans of white.. Be carefull some pain colors cover better than others. I painted it yellow the first time, It looked pretty good, but I ran out of primer, ao I used a different color to finish priming... I showed through the paint. And it became obvious pretty quick that I could not afford enough to make it cover the difference. Of course I was using cheaper paind that time also. It was Meijer brand..

I started with about 400, and worked down to 2000 grit... As you are doing this you will find more and more little spots that need more filler. I still have many spots that need work, but they are mostly pretty small. I have got to start rereading my posts. I sure am a bad typist.

    VERY NICE rattlecan job, SMG.....

Back to the topic, it seems logical to have a Project of the Month and then we will have to have a Resto of the Month and then we will have to need a Modified of the Month in addition to the Daily Driver of the Month and of course the Car of the Month that we have now.

So I propose again a Car of the Week. Just one. That way there will be plenty of spotlight to go around. This week a junk yard dawg, the next week a 30,000 mile garager, and next week a Chevy 305 with double 650's. Next week a sleeper. Next week a rattle-can paint job.

Nice photoshoot EricB. That's the way car pics should be taken. Garage pics and "in front of the house" pics get a little old. But I can't really talk, I don't have any pics of my car out of the garage!!!!!!!!!

OH an Mike, i know you're busy but it'd be cool if the Car of the Month link also went to some little text write-up on the car written by the owner. Maybe with specs, mods, upgrades and other info the owner wants to throw out. Just an idea..
