    Default Parts Interchangability

I was wondering what body parts are interchangeable between z's.

When I had my 240z i was told a 260z bonnet (Hood) wouldnt fit, but that was over 10 years ago, and i've seen plenty of 240z with 260 turbo bonnets. Do 260z 2+2 bonnets, fenders and headlight buckets bolt straigt onto a 240z?

Obviously a 2+2 hatch wouldnt fit a 240z, but what about a 2 seater hatch. I saw an ad for a guy wnting to swap a 260z hatch for a 240z, so maybe they dont, who knows? but thats just the point.

It would be good to get a list going of parts that can be swapped, as 240z parts are hard to find (here in Australia), but 260z 2+2 are easy to find and are really cheap.

I'm not too concerned with mechanical parts, diffs, engis etc, as there are plenty of posts about them, and with enough tinkering you can just about make anything fit. But what about parts like window winders, door catches & handles, and not jsut from z to z, but form other datsuns as well.

Anybody have any experiances at swapping parts, well share your wisdom to the rest of us.

Hoods, yes. Only differences might be in the hood vents on some.
    Fenders, yes.
Doors, yes but there may be some small differences in the latches and inner door panels.
Hatches from 2 seaters should all swap OK, might be slight differences in emblems and strut supports.
Headlight buckets should all be the same. Even the fiberglass ones from the early cars are the same as the metal ones on later cars.
Rocker panels on all 2 seaters are the same, same as rear quarters. 2+2 will fit any 2+2 by the same token.

Bumpers might have the most differences, that is if they made them somewhat like they did on the US cars. The supports are usually the major differences on the early thin bumper cars.

Cowl panels and inspection lids should all be the same.

As far as parts from other Datsuns goes, well, don't know. Luckily I've usually had at least one parts Z to pick parts from....

    Post Swapable parts

the 510s and 240s share the same window cranks
all the 620 Pick-ups and 240Z share the same glovebox door latch. But the 620 latch is not lockable.

I have no idea why......but I hate the word "Bonnet"

I have been getting the magazine "Practical Classics" and had to get a good translation down of all the overseas terms like "wing" for fender, and Bonnet for hood in order to follow along

If you want to understand terms get a labeled diagram of a stage coach. You find out where dash board came from, boot, etc. Now I have one for the group. Does anyone know where the term "pinning the ears back" used to describe going fast in your car came from? Or how about "Balls out" for going fast?
Note this is a test and you will be graded
