Default New Graphics on my Z

Wake up everybody! This forum has been too quiet, so I'm throwing this out for fun...

I'm repainting my car (white again) to try and remove the reminders of the hundreds of cones I have crushed while flogging this car for the past 10+ years. To jazz it up I'm planning on putting some bold graphics on the car, vinyl, not paint... So, Some friends and I have come up with someting like 22 different options so far and posted them on this site http://sth2.com/Z-car/newstripes/ Take a look at them all and let me know which ones you like (or hate)... I'll post the top few as of now... starting with the top pick of my wife and kids...

    Tom,

The Z's have such a clean, classic form, I personally hate to see them all tarted up. Of what you have showing, I like the BRE best, then the orange.

    That's my 2 cents.

Let us know what you decide.

My first choice would be the Red Bolt... but, I'd have to do the yellow bolt in a really bright blue....and maybe just a tad higher with the red, and a wider blue bolt... bring it up closer to the beltline and end at the bottom of the headlight cover in front.

Second choice would be the Flame Job, with a couple different colors... bright blue instead of the black, and perhaps orange where the yellow is....

Can you tell I don't like yellow?

Can never go wrong with the BRE scheme, whether the top is red or blue....

I have to agree with Marty on the selection. The other styles are bordering on "The Fast and The Furious" look. Just my opinion. I do like those rims

Well, I've tried to post a few photos, but they're not going through... Black and Blue flames are the leader right now... according to my wife!

Sorry to disappoint guys but I'm tarting this one up! I would never get this bold on a street car, but for a dedicated race car, overstated is OK with me.

I also like the BRE look, but it's been copied too many times for me to add to the list.

I think if you have to go all out on her, the best you could do would be what I'm probably going to do to my motorcycle, which is the Rising Sun Japanese war flag on it.

I've done a basic version on your blank picture it looks kinda ****e, but you get the idea.

The rising sun may not fly in Texas.

I like the Black and Red flames myself.

What I'd really like is a new Tom Holt "Ride along" video. I think I played the old one to death.

If I had to pick one then I'd have to go with the orange, I don't think that the flame job that you show would do it. Out of curiousity I have always wondered what a old fashioned hot rod flame job would look like, but then I think to myself, not pretty on a z.

    Hey Michael,
That's one of the better rising sun layouts I've seen... the 2 or 3 others I have seen had a much smaller sun centered on the roof or hood, but like Victor said... I don't know if that'll fly in Texas.
Getting to Craig's comments I did see a cool "classic" flame job on an ebay car a while back... here it is... http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...tem=2446799102>http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...tem=2446799102

I hope that text wraps okay. That paint job is a few miles outside of my budget...

I need to post the photoshop job a coworker did to my car... he made it look like teh biggest snowbelt rustbucket you ever saw. Some of you might like it better

Kinda like this one Tom? It's not only got rust, but the hood and roof are now 1/2 covered with a nice light green mold/mildew/fungus from being parked under the trees for 4 years or so.....
It's even started on the sides now, especially around the rust holes and the holes drilled in the side for some idiots idea of a body molding... hmm, one molding gone, another "mold"ing taking over....

    Hey Carl,
The video is just a couple of MPEGs on my website... http://sth2.com/Z-car/ scroll down to the video links and see why I don't make my living as a professional video editor or race car driver!

I was looking through my newer video clips and found a few more that I can put up... I need to convert them to mpgs first... I don't think my bandwidth limits would like people pulling down 200+Mb for a 60 second clip. Give me a few days...

It was the clip, "Roll'em" that I liked so much. You get the sensation of speed, and driver busy-ness. It closely catches the AutoX experience.

... Totally unrelated to the graphics discussion, but I stuck a couple of newer videos on my site. When capturing the video I kept getting the occasional dropped frames, so forgive the occasional glitch... you get what you pay for around here

I can't do the Texas flag... Phil Adams did that to his MR2 when he was running FP in 2002/2003. He trashed his engine at the Fort Worth Divisional last year and has most likely retired the car for the foreseeable future, but the statute of limitations has not expired on his paint job.

Well then the striped ass, vitek, and red bolt ideas are looking good as is the BRE.

The vitek and red bolt appeal to me more than some of the others because I think the graphics/stripes ideas that go over the front fender detract from the lines of the car.

I think the Capt America theme would be more appealing if the stripe that goes in front of the fender to the air dam (lower cowl or whatever that part is called) curved the other way.

If I ever get that far on my car I was thinking of painting it with a paintball gun....

I like the BRE, TexaZ, an the rising sun.

Here is a pick of the track car I've been working on. It's got the "20 footer" body work. Paint was applied by a pro. Not totally correct, but I think it came out pretty good. We are in the process of putting coil overs in it to correct the ride height.

    Hey Tom,
I like either the red and black or the black and red flames . They would actually look good on my silver car as well. Are you planning on having vinyl graphics cut for your car ?

    Hi Mike,
Yes, I'll be going the vinyl route. I have a friend with the equipment, so I can get it done for the cost of materials... I did have the thought of trying to make the center color patch on the flames static cling so that I can change it out whenever the mood struck. I would probably have to make the color not start until after the flare though. We'll see... The good thing about vinyl is it can be changed a lot easier than painted graphics (unless you leave it on the car for 9 years like my old numbers!)

How about a stylized BRE type of a deal, maybe red/blue or yellow black

I'll look at it and see if I can do something better..

Basically the Black and Red Flames design, providing it follows the swoop line along the back guard.

    Hey Axelr8,
That's pretty cool looking! My first thought was "Hey another white Z with the same wheels as me! Oh wait! That is my car"

The car is supposed to get shot this coming weekend, so I'll be making a decision soon...

Yep... We flamed it! Not quite one of the original concepts, but close. I hadn't posted anything, because I was planning to reduce the number size a little. They cover too much of the flames. Here's a picture from the Houston Natl. Tour. We ran EM since no one showed up in FP. We told everyone the flames weren't legal in Preprared. The EM on the door was just electric tape so it looks like crap.

We kinda surprised some of the guys in EM. Finished second behind the former Natl Champ. He won by 5 seconds, but that was all from day one when it started raining right after his run.

Tom, you're not going to believe this, but my new race car is disturbingly like your #2 scheme. Here is a really bad photo and you will probably need a Yahoo ID to view...

Sure is fun playing around with diferent hosts...NOT! Too funny. What the hell...here you go...

The other side is just the opposite. The front fender is all blue and it all fades to zero about mid-door. In the rear, the blue dies down through the valence just right of center. I got the idea from a BMW in a magazine I have--but it was red/white/blue.

When you click the link, remove the " . " from inbetween phK.Zg in the last section of the url, it should work then if you have YahooID, theoretically.. it tells me I dont have permission.

I know it's irrelevant now as you've already posted the picture.. but, well.. well... but.. well... but... but...

I was going to say the paintjob looks very 80's M-series Beemer-ish but there's something weird about it being on a curved car. How far away is it from being finished and ready to go? I'd love to see it out in the sunshine being put to the test

    tholt29,

Looks good, you chose well. I still would have preferred the rising sun though even if just for the irritation it would have caused in texas ... mind you, you could paint a big turd on your car and it would still look good, it's an S30.

Yes, it looked quite a bit different on a M-series sedan. Transposing it to the curvy car made it take on a different effect. I'll see if I can dig up the magazine.

The problem with the yahoo links is it is a members-only Z site. Yahoo USED to let the public read messages and view photos--but nothing else--and now it seems they ahve put their stranglehold on that too. Oh, well...it's free!

is that grey part going to remain grey???

I guess it just looks a little strange because the blue and green and red stripes have no gloss to them, so the pastel on polished look weirds me out. but if i imagine them all clossy it looks cool.
