Lots of plans. I have my new L28/L24 combo motor standing by. I'll put a manual tranny in....toss the auto tranny. I want to get rid of the louvers, the bumper over riders. Front spook on, slot mags off ( Bold-U, pm me if interested in the wheels / tires) If anyone is interested in any of the stuff coming off, PM me. The interior is damned near brand new....everything works including power antenae....not sure about the clock. The bumpers will go to Denver Bumper to have the holes filled....European style. Another toy.....love these cars!

Not interested in the wheels themselves--I just cleaned up my own slotted mags and my tires are new, but I do need centercaps... I'd imagine you'd want to sell them as a set, though.

AACA:
EXHIBITION CLASSES
1.HISTORICAL PRESERVATION OF ORIGINAL FEATURES (HPOF) CLASS
Since its’ founding, AACA has been dedicated to the preservation, restoration and maintenance of vehicles. In the furtherance of the “preservation” mission, the AACA Board of Directors in 1987 established a program to encourage the saving and display of collector vehicles in their original, as manufactured condition. The Historical Preservation of Original Features program encourages owners of vehicles 35 years old and older, retaining significant original features to allow them to remain in this original condition, and to show them at National Meets. A vehicle may be entirely “original” or it may have certain “original” features such as paint, chassis, upholstery, engine compartment, etc., that are essentially as delivered. These vehicles will not be point judged. They will be certified using a percentage system which includes a total average percentage of the original features of the exterior, interior, chassis and engine. The vehicle must receive a score of sixty-five percent (65%) or above to receive certification. They will be recognized at the awards ceremony and will receive an exhibition award (and a mounting board at first certification). A certification badge will be presented to each vehicle upon acceptance into the HPOF category. The badge should be mounted at some visible location on the front of the vehicle. Vehicles entering the HPOF category will be prohibited from future registration in any other competition or exhibition class. If the vehicle is restored, certification in HPOF category will be voided. No previous National First Prize winners are accepted. An HPOF certified vehicle that is significantly restored will lose its’ HPOF certification. HPOF certification remains with the vehicle even if there is a change of ownership. (See Attachment 5 HPOF Judging Form p. 48)

Glad we have some quick brick lovers hereI just got it 2 weeks ago. 2004 V70 R with 81k miles. Have wanted one forever! It's such a great car. 300hp AWD, Brembo brakes and the most comfortable interior I have ever been in. I had a 94 850 turbo R clone back in 04. I love me some station wagons! Plan on a little drop, painting the 18" pegasus wheels grey, tint, projector headlight retrofit and an IPD grill.

That valve cover is in my Gold 71, not the orange 72. That valve cover was bead blasted, primed with acid etch primer then sprayed with aluminum VHT paint.

When I was driving behind him on the way home, I was amazed that it really looked like a restored car. It's remarkable that these cars are still out there in this condition. The interior truly is like new. The dash is flawless. Everything looked good underneath when it was in the truck too. I can't be 100% positive but it even looked like no one had jacked the car up using the unibody/frame rails.
Walter,
Here are some more pix of the V70 R. You should check them out. Great car. The suspension and brakes are insane. I rarely see them and the prices have come way down. You can get a really nice one for $15-17k. This one was $12,500 with 81k but needed a little suspension refreshing and will need a timing belt in the next 5-10k miles.

Wow...beautiful code 110 car! Any history or documents with it? I'm a purist, so I cast my vote with Carl to keep it a survivor. Also, I'm interested in the louvers.
Sorry guys....the auto tranny has to go. No documentation to say it was an automatic tranny car though.....no one will know. I'm going to put the modified L28 block with L24 crank, rods, P79 .040 over pistons. P79 shaved head with the Isky Stage III cam. The engine will look like the stock engine with Z Therapy S/U's......just don't read the numbers. The original engine will sit on an engine stand to remain available for retro-fit if needed. When the engine is out, I'll polish up the original paint under the hood, so everything is original. The bumper over-riders and louvers have been removed....Denver Bumper will fill those holes and re chrome the bumpers to stock specs. The paint on the outside will remain, however the dents (and there are more than meets the eye) will be rubbed out as much as possible by the Dent Wizard. A front spook will be added as well as Panasport wheels. The following thread illustrates how nice the last auto tranny swap worked. Thanks for all suggestions.......http://www.classiczcars.com/forums/thread40158.html

Denver Bumper charges $120.00 for each end section and $140.00 for the center bar....... that includes filling the holes and a beautiful chrome application. I haven't had them do a front bumper yet, so I'm guessing $180.00. They do great work and they shipped in 8 days.

Carl may know......This makes two transition Z's for me. The 71 has the vent on the pillars instead of the tailgate. It has an early tranny and short drive shaft. The 72 has the long drive shaft and late tranny, but the early rear window and seat belts. It has the later console.

Stephen, Panasports are nice, but the LeMans are far, far less common. No way I could go back to Panasports if I had your car.
Arne.......Rare is important, but IMO the look of Panasports is just hard to beat. Wantanabe's have that same look, but sizes are hard to make work. Guy - Great looking car. It was also nice to meet you at the Manassas show earlier this spring. If only I could get one of my two cars looking anything close to this. Don't toss that auto transmission! Someday I'll convince my wife she wants a Roadster and it'll need to be an automatic.
It's so fun to see your cars and watch them go from near perfect to sublime. I had to laugh about your auto to manual trans conversion when you mentioned how difficult large hands can be when working under the dash and the pedal box. Try 6'4" and 300lbs! But it got done thanks to Arne's article on how to convert. Your's is another beautiful car in the right hands, great job.

Well, both are great Z choices, and you can't go wrong with either one. I still prefer the LeMans look myself, but since I no longer have a Z, my opinion doesn't count for much. Wheel choices for the Porsche are much simpler - NOTHING looks right on a 911 except Fuchs, either original or replicas.

Bite your tongue Arne. You have been here through thick and thin. You have contributed more useful information than most of us ever have. Great Z car you picked up. My favorite color. My 72 is also an ex-auto car. I had no idea it had been converted until I found some extra wires that seemed to lead from the firewall, down into the trans tunnel. After much head scratching, I remembered that the PO had mentioned that it was originally auto. I can't wait to see what you do with it, but it's already beautiful. Best of luck with it.

Looking at the pictures - I suppose that Guy also has a Silver Cherry Picker for use on the Silver Z and a White one etc...
Notice also how "presentable" the Yellow Cad Plating on the original fuel/brake lines are? A very low mileage example..

Nice Z you found. I would have change the Auto tranny for sure. Who the hell was buying an automatic 240Z?
Cleaned up under the hood......came out beautiful! Dropped the front suspension....installing new ball joints, bushings, Tokico shocks and Eibach springs. I'll clean everything like new.

I've been busy this weekend......acid cleaned the inside of the tank, then sealed it with POR 15 Tank Sealer.....that stuff works great.....looks like new inside. Then, I cleaned up the outside and painted it. Also cleaned up the diff, installed side seals and new diff cover gasket......followed by fresh paint. Same with the other items in the pics. Everything is ready to go back in.

Guy-
Great looking projects - Did you leave in the original 4 speed to upgrade to a 5 speed? I just located a R180 3.9 and it's due in on Tuesday.
Life's a journey; enjoy the ride!

Looks Great Guy - nice to have parts that aren't dented or all badly pitted to work with. I think you are enjoying this -..

Beautiful work Guy.

Mitch......I'm going back with a 4 speed.....Eiji gave me the tranny out of his white car. The 390 ought to be sweet.....let me know what you think of it.
Carl......You bet I'm enjoying it ....... restoring a car with no rust or abuse is as it should be. I'm having a ball. Note the yellow A on the diff.....I left that alone.....I assume the Datsun folks put that on it because it was an automatic (3:54) ......right?
Blue.....Thanks for the encouragement.......I can't wait to see how that new combo motor feels.....it ought to be sweet!

Guy. Your car is looking terrific. Earlier in this thread, you mentioned changing to Eibach springs for this car with Tokiko strut inserts if I remember correctly. Since the springs with this car only have 25k on them, did you consider leaving the original springs? What drove your decision? How would you characterize the Eibach spring ride/handling/ride height characteristics compared to stock? I am having this internal debate on the 25k mile refresh I am doing.
Thanks
Jonathan......The Eibachs give you a smooth ride but "get down" a little better in the curves. Also, Eibachs lower the car anywhere from 1/2 to 1 inches. Tokico shocks are far superior to the original shock struts.......no comparison....and the ride is nice too. Regards. Guy

Hi Guy:
I think that "A" - Automatic & 3.54 is a valid assumption. Should be a good rear gear with the 4 spd.
Carl B.
The orange Z just picked up a clutch pedal........goodbye auto tranny! The clutch master cylinder is a welcome addition. Installing pedals and clevis pins was the hardest part of this resto......so glad that's behind me.
