If the ball joint lost some bolts or is severely worn then that could be the culprit. There aren't too many things that it can be. I wish I was closer so I could have a look.

Hood and C-pillar emblems are the same. The 1974.5 260Z has the same bumpers as the 75-76 280Z. There may have been some different paint options too.

1977-78 280Zs have the vented hoods. The vents weren't just added. That area was stamped for the vents which bolt in.

Generally speaking if you're looking for "comfort, reliability, and A/C" then I'd say go for a 280ZX. It really depends on your budget and skills.

There's no need for a coil over kit on a street car. It's just a waste of time and money. Get some shorter spings and a set of sway bars like the guys above said.
