    Default 240K GTR Flares

    Guys,
I have located a company in Melbourne Australia that has a mould to make the four wheel arche flares. These are the normal bolt on type as used by Alphadog.
Kyteler and I are both keen, but I thought I would post a question wether anyone else was interested in getting some made. It would be easier for the company to run off the required amount.
The cost $264 (including GST) per set. (Prices have gone up due to raw materials such as oil) The company accepts cheques, money orders, COD and direct BankTransfers. If you let me know if you are keen within the next two weeks, then I will get him to make them, pass the companies details to you and you can contact them directly to arrange payment, pickup, or additional postage.

Oh, he is looking thought his database to see if he has the front and rear spoilers too. At the moment, he thinks he has only the rear. (No cost as yet)

    Regards,
    Bruce

    Challenge fibreglass?

They used to quote about $180 for a set IIRC.

In any case, yes, put me down as a definite. I spoke to them almost a year ago, and have been "fixin" to order them since them.

Also very keen on a rear spoiler - let us know the price and I'll almost certainly buy one of them as well.

    Cheers

I'd guess the 4 door flares were probalby different, and that they dont have molds for them.

I guess the 2 door ones could be modified to fit.

Yes, I am very keen to get these along with a rear spoiler. Although I would need them posted to Auckland

I agree craig, i rekon it could be done...The wheel rear wheel arches are the same on the rear of the coupe and the rear of the sedan, the flares would just need to be cut and shaped to allow for rear door acess.

    Hi Jeremy,
Posting them to NZ should not be a problem as I have already made the offer to Michael. However, if there is a rear spoiler available, that might get expensive. We shall have to see.
As for 4 doors, I shall ask the bloke at challenge what he thinks. He did tell me that they were cast from original coupe flares.

Kent, are you keen on the flares? or just the rear?

    Tom, do you want any?

    So far we have:
1 for Bruce, Michael, Peter, Jeremy possibly Craig.

I believe the flares will fit the 4 doors just fine - just need some cutting if you want the doors to be functional. I wouldn't want to buy the flares without test fitting the rears onto a 4 door first though...

I have a 4 door. The company could send me a set, and i'll tell them how well they fit, the could call it a market reseach exersise and write it off as for a tax rebate.

Of course I get to keep the flares

I got the first cast made from Challenge Fibreglass from original
C110GTR moulds, this is how he has obtained replica's (albeit indentical anyway!)

Item to note; even if they do fit a sedan, if you don't want the wheels to get lost in the flares, the sedan rear wheel arch will need to be tubbed, just like the coupe`! And THAT is a nice job!!! Re-fabricating the rear wheel arch, door locking mechanism, etc. I took a long, hard look at this one and said, thanks very much, but...".

Too much mucking around re engineers, etc, however, if the funds are there, by all means give it a shot.

    Cheers, James

ps; pretty much all my Datsun stuff is sold now, except a mint 240K steering wheel, and I just found the passenger seat handle that enable forward tilting (the one that is closest to the centre console)

I have just called Phil from Challenge, He has been unable to find a front or rear spoiler for a 240K. There was something in his Database, but it indicated they were waiting on someone to provide an original to make a mould from. (It's not looking good so far)

I let him know that ther are 6 people interested in the side flares. He is still looking for the moulds.

Datsfun/Preet - He does not have anything for a 180BSSS, but he thinks he knows someone that might. I will keep chasing him up for you.

Everyone - As soon as he has found the moulds, I shall let you know for final orders.

    James,

what happened when you got your GTR flares copied? did he charge you for making the moulds etc.. did he wreck your originals

i may be getting (fingers crossed) a fibreglass copy of the rear wing and front lip, would be interested in getting a mould made up somewhere for future safety... and it would be good to have all of them available at the one place (and possibly get us discounts for 240k members

    Hi Kent,
I have just had a chat to Phil at Challenge. He says that it is not that hard to make moulds and it probably would not cost you anything. Especially if the four of us that are interested in getting flares are keen on the front and rear spoilers too.
He prefers the items to be in good condition and unpainted. But painted will work, it's just that during the mould process, as it shrinks, it is possible that the paint could be damaged. It has happened only once or twice before. But generally, all is good.
He has asked to be sent some pictures of the spoilers. Do you have some? or should I just send him some fitted pictures from other peoples cars?

As for the Flares, he is still looking for the moulds. I explained to him that I would like to hurry this up as I am moving to Sydney at the end of the month. Even after telling him that 4 or 5 people are interested, I think we will end up getting them in his time - if you know what I mean.

Don't forget you'll need the mesh, brackets and badge for that front grille. And that one looks like it is missing some mounting points.

Here are the pictures from the other auctions.

What a beautiful Skyline. It would be a pity to put flares on that one ... but I guess I can't talk!

It might work out better if you get yours from Japan... Do you know Dome? His friend has a C110 with flares in Thailand who might be able to help. Something to look into anyway

By the way, please feel free to show us more pictures of your car! It looks beautiful. Did you restore it?

edit: Kent beat me to it :P

    Hi Everyone,
Phil called me back today, he has made one set of flares because I told him last week that I wanted to get this sorted before I move to Sydney in the next 3 weeks.
But, he is holding off untill I get final numbers for everyone else. Kent, if you want some, I will bring them up with me. Michael (Ktyler), Time permitting I can still send you a set. But FINALLY, who else wants some NOW as he can run off a batch?
I would prefer everyone to deal directly with Phil for payment and postage - As I am running out of time.

PS: Kent, he has had a look at the spoiler pics and believes that the front would cost about $110 and the rear about $140 if the underneath is not too complicated. Thats to have a secound set made for whoever wants them. No cost to you for making the moulds.

I will post the contact details out tomorrow.

do you know the colour code of your car? it should be on one of the compliance plates in the engine bay. it looks like it is the GT-R grey that i want to do my car in.

congrats! that looks like a very clean example! how long have you had it?

Looks good mate. It is a pity about those big Laurel or Cedric mirrors though! And the rear beaver panel is interesting too - off a sedan. I thought Tom experimented and found that they could not be interchanged?

Love the Watanabes. They suit the car perfectly. Where did the car come from? Were they originally sold in Thailand or is this from Europe?

Kent, changed your mind again huh? The colour codes we figured out and are in the other thread mate....... and this definitely looks a darker silver than the GT-R's came in. Not that that's a bad thing - this is a nice looking colour.

I did, and its peculiar that this example is using a 'sedan model' beaver panel, with gtr tail lights. The tail lights are an easy aftermarket upgrade, but i wouldnt say theyre easy to find, or cheap! Perhaps later model c110 coupes, as this appears to be (due to the beaver panel badging), were fitted with the simpler beaver panel - cheaper to manufacture...?
HGC110-008484 - Why didnt they just badge them as Skylines in Oz!?

I dont know about that Tom. I have never seen a hardtop with a sedan beaver panel before. I think a much more viable explanation is the car had a bump from behind and it was replaceed with whatever could be found easily - in this case a Skyline (not Datsun like the rest of the car) sedan beaver panel. Maybe this why the tail lights are JDM too? Who knows... do you know, ijaidee?

Back to the subject at hand: I think the best way to approach this is for everyone to contact the bloke directly. Michael, I will order yours and PM you about payment and postage.

    Otherwise:

The company name is Challenge Fibreglass, located in Camberwell, Victoria, Australia. Phil is the owner you can call him on 0418 567 019 or email him on phil@melbpc.org.au. He is a little slow on email replies.

Sorry no a clue about the paint code!
Watanabes are sold in Thailand long time ago,now you have you wait for used sets local or from Japan.
I'd been meaning to change the fender mirrors, but cannot find the right one yet,Any advised?

Hi, Yes I am still keen to get a set sent over to NZ, Might be cheaper to wait on the front and rear spoilers and get them all sent at once. Or with Ktyler's flares

i would imagine it is going to be a while yet before the front and rear spoilers will be available. we have yet to work out a cheap way to get them from japan (i have a rear valance to ship with it so it is rather heavy and awkward), it may have to come by sea, and then i have to send it to phil and have him make up the moulds etc.. it will definately happen, just not sure on the time frame.
