Default Other cars you own, or drive?

    Hey all!

Just curious, what other cars are you all driving or own? Daily driver, etc. I have found that car enthusiasts rarely drive "boring, or non-inspiring" cars, so I would like to know what else you all drive.

I drive a 2001 Dodge Ram 2500 w/ Cummins turbo diesel. (I know, kinda boring, but I need it for work and to pull our travel trailer). My wifes daily driver is a 2005 Subaru Legacy GT Ltd. wagon. Now that, my friends is one helluva car! I do not want to start anything with all of the Datsun purists out there, but I have been LOVING the Subie since we got it in May!!!

So whattya think, this might be a fun thread! Oh yeah, pics are always good, too!!!

    Regards,

    Astrohog

My daily driver is a 2000 Civic SiR (Same as Si US model. Except the Canadian model has ABS). It is almost as much fun to drive a my 280 was. I have the usual collection of boring family vehicles. What I really like to drive is my 1980 Glastron Carlson CVX 20 jet boat.

Well, you can see what else I drive by my signature but I'll give a little description of each anyways.

'02 Ford Focus ZX3 - This is an awsome little car, I havent had it too long yet but it rides good, its quiet and its fairly sporty handling wise although its far from being quick. And best of all it consistently gets 34-36 mpg. Good Daily Driver Car

'80 Honda CB750 Custom - This is my second Honda motorcycle and I definetly impressed with it. It has an air cooled I-4 motor with almost 30K miles and I've had no major problems with yet (knock on wood lol), I bought it 15K on it. I wouldn't say that I beat on it but does see alot of revs when I go backroad riding.

'97 Arctic Cat 580EXT - This is by far the fastest and most dangerous vehicle I own. 110hp in a 550lb vehicle that you ride through the woods on 10-20 ft wide trails.........ummm yeah. They are alot of fun though. On lakes, 50mph fishtails, donuts and just general gettin' sideways is a cinch and if you have enough room to open it up it'll do 100mph.

Good thread Astrohog, I've always wondered what kind of other vehicles the members here drive too.

Just a quick Subaru story for you, a couple weekends ago I was sitting a red light behind a pretty loud 5.0 Mustang and Legacy wagon like astodog's. They started throwing revs at each other (the subie had a BOV and I think that was it) and when they raced they both got a good launch but that Mustang got absolutely embarassed lol. I laughed all the way home about this.

I ride a 2005 Sportster 1200 Custom as a daily driver and my wife drives our 2004 Mazda 6 Sport Wagon. I don't have any pictures yet. But then I also have my 72 Z which will start getting completly taken apart for the bodywork to get rid of the rust on it.

In addition to the Z, I also drive a '66 MGB and a '01 Audi A4 (Turbo) Quattro. The challenge is in deciding which car to drive on any given day :-)

My first car I bought was the 280z (two years ago at the beginning of the summer). Then I realized there's just no way I'm driving that through the winters here! So I bought my other car off my brother when he went into basic training in the Air Force. It's a junker 1990 Grand Marquis that had 45k miles on it when we bought it 5 years ago. Odo broke at 64k and I suspect it's got roughly 85k miles on it. But man, those winters are brutal on it and it looks like a 185k mile junker car.

Looking to buy a different beater car, one with better gas milage.

    Cheers!

Vehicles are listed below....I drive the Titan...not to boring for a truck..good performance if you can handle $65.00 fill ups, wife drives the Maxima, we drive the Miata sparingly on weekends when carrying space is not an issue.

The Z when it is finished will be driven on occasions...but on those occasions "Oh Lord"...I scare myself thinkin' about it.

    Default vehicles-

I consider my Z my daily driver until winter comes, but the drive way contains my wifes '05 Sentra 1.8S Special Edition and my '02 Pathfinder SE 4x4. We talked ourselves into the Pathy from my leased '03 Frontier XE 4x4 Off-Road, which I seriously regret. That truck was awesome!!! Quite frankly I don't know how anyone can own a house without owning a truck, this SUV crap is killing me. I'm just hanging on 'till I can get a deal on a king cab 4x4 Titan. Don't get me wrong, the Pathy is a great vehicle it just doesn't fit our needs.

Sold my truck a number of years back. Taking my cue from the Europeans, both the Jetta and the BMW have receiver hitches on them, and tow a small utility trailer quite nicely. But I do agree, with that addition - if you own a house you've almost got to have either a truck or a trailer.

    Default fun cars

Wife (Carmen) has the 1998 BMW M Roadster, I drive the ZX daily. Once winter comes, I will start driving my 2002 Mitsu Montero, unless I trade it in on a new Honda Fit Sport.
Other fun cars I have had include my first car, a 1988 Honda CRX (my first 2 seater), a 1975 Fiat Spider (second 2 seater-back seat useless, like a 2+2), a 1983 Buick LeSabre Coupe (ultimate 5.0 V-8 sleeper). The BMW makes the third 2 seater and the ZX the forth.
I would love to get a Renault Clio V6, even though they are not sold/legal in the US, but I am able (by family) to get one in Mexico, when I can afford it.
I was raised in an MG family, my father restoring a veritable plethora of pre 1960 models, a J2, TA, TC, TD, TF and PB. The only one we ever bought new was an MGC. My mother drove a 1983 Corvette (red, of course), but she sold it before I got my liscence

    Default Baja

My wife and I bought Subaru's on our anniversary. She got the Forestor turbo and i got the Baja turbo. Both are great cars and as previously noted, stealthy quick. The Baja was the best compromise of truck and car I could find-leaning more towards car handling. I love my Baja, it is one of the few new cars I have owned but I think I will sell it because it is cutting into my Z funds badly.

My daily driver is the Skyline. Just bought a 03 Lexus GS 300 for my return to Hawaii. It's sitting at my parents' house. The wife drives a 99 Toyota Harrier (aka Lexus RX 300). Don't know what she's going to get in Hawaii.

Notable previous cars: 65 Mustang, 84 Toyota Pickup, 73 Plymouth Duster (a clunker for sure, but it just wouldn't die), 69 Toyota Corona (Grandma's old car), 88 Toyota Camry Wagon (fast! this one ate up a lot of ricers)

At the moment the train is my form of transportation. Probably going to buy an AE82 Corolla as a run about for the weekends and would love a new ML Mitsubihsi Triton to tow the Datto around when its done.

    Hi Guys:
My daily driver is an 88 Chevy 1500 Long Bed (8') Pickup. Basic truck with wind up windows, rubber mats (no carpet) and 257,000 miles. I'll most likely keep it and drive it until one of us passes away.

Whoever remarked that you can't have a house without a Pick-up is certainly right as far as I'm concerned.

To tell you the truth, I've become quite attached to the poor old thing. It has always done anything I ask of it, I can leave the keys in it and no one will steal it. I can park it in any parking lot and no one ever opens a door against it. The paint is pealing off like sunburned skin.. but the A/C still works even if the A/T is getting weak. I can throw anything in the bed, without the first worry about denting it or scratching the paint. It's always outside and always the first thing I jump in to drive.

I've gone out several times with the full intention of buying a new PU... but came home without one every time. I just can't see putting $30K into something that is depreciating rather than appreciating. I have to admit to suffering from Sticker Shock each time as well. The Nissan Titian Crew Cab... at around $21K on sale... is looking better and better.... but so far I just can't make myself do it...

My wife has a 2000 GMC Yukon XL... we love it. She also has a 91 Thunderbird Super Coupe as her "collectible". She's the original owner and has about 9K miles on it. I put a 100,000 miles on my 89 SC and sold it a couple years ago..(should have just stuck that one away too)...

    FWIW,
    Carl B.

    For me,

    Currently:
I trade back and forth between my 2001 GMC Sierra and My 1971 Blue Z

    Previously Enjoyed :

    1st car: 1968 Chevelle Malibu 327 / 275 hp w/powerglide
    2nd car: 1969 Chevelle SS396 /375 hp Muncie trans
3rd car: the next few years I rode motorcycles... Yamaha RD350,
Honda DOHC 450 Honda CB550 then back to cars...
    4th car: 1971 Camaro RS / SS
    5th car: Fiat Spyder 2000
6th car: Fiat X 19 (it was cheap ok!)
    7th car: Datsun/Nissan 310GX
    8th car: 79 Honda Prelude
9th car: 1984 Toyota Celica GTS
    10th car: 1971 240Z
    11th car: 1971 240Z (still have)
    12th car: 1973 240Z (still have)
    13th car: 1990 Mustang GT 5.0

Thanks! I thought it might be fun!

2004 350Z touring as a daily driver and the wife drives a Peugeot 307.

31 years on and a lot of progress, the power is brutal and the handling great, but love getting back in the 73 240Z.

I noticed that Jackboxx listed his 'previouly enjoyed' cars. I'd list all of the cars that I/we have ever owned. The 810 is my 49th! That doesn't count my wife's cars. But I have slowed way down on that in the last ten years or so.

Sure - you can count a good neighbor that will loan you his truck as well. (my truck is a family truck when my son needs it .. and a neighborhood truck every once-in-awhile)..

I own a house with no pickup!

I've always wanted to get one, but I make do without. Of course, the wife's Pilot takes place of a pickup if hauling is needed...

2002 Nissn Sentra SE-R Spec-V is my daily. The '72 240z and '69 2000 Roadster are for nice weekends. The Z makes an occasional appearance at work, but only if it's not too hot out. The Roadster collects dust in the garage until a nice sunny weekend comes along.

Just a few of my reasons for "requiring" a truck...
    1) Front End Loaders tend to have problems fitting 1.5 Cubic Yards of mulch in a SUV or the trunk of a sedan.

    2) It's a lot easier loading and loading 10 five gallon buckets of driveway sealant (50+ lbs. each) without a roof above your head, that and they just flat out don't fit in the Sentra's trunk.

    3) 80 bundles of shingles... 1/2 pickup = 2 trips, Pathfinder = 8 trips.

Carl... your truck brings back some fond memories of my first vehicle, I had a Black '88 Chevy C1500 Long-Bed with the Silverado Package... I loved that truck, 188,000 miles when I traded it for a Toyota MR2, one of my dumbest decisions to date.

    Hi Nathan:
Your "Front End Loader"...comment made me laugh out loud. Max, my dog goes everywhere with me in the truck... So when it's time to go to the Cypress Saw Mill for mulch... Max goes with me. As this huge Front End Loader scoops up 3 cubic yards of mulch, and starts to approach the truck - Max is transfixed, I can see him thinking "what the hell is THAT".... I thought he was going to jump out of the truck when the Front End Loader dumped that mulch in the bed!! I was laughing out loud, as he looked at me with one of those "did you see that?".. looks that only dogs can get...

Took three trips to fill the area around the back of the garage initially, then about one trip per year to refresh it. Good thing it's only about three miles from the house.. as three yards fills that 8' bed to above the cab roof.

5 gallon buckets... just put 5 of them filled with paint, 5 filled with primer, 5 filled with roof paint and 1 filled with trim paint in the truck for my latest project - repainting the house. Then picked up a high pressure washer and airless paint system.... Can't fit that in the Yukon XL either.

    Just too funny...
    regards,
    Carl B.

2006 Civic sedan, automatic. Fairly ugly generic car, but I actually get a hair over 40 mpg consistently(no fudging) on freeway driving with the AC on. Didn't really expect that good of mileage. Kinda rough and noisy ride(not nearly as plush a ride as my 1992 F150 had). Was able to fit 25 ten foot lengths of 3/4 inch pvc pipe and a few 8' studs inside the car with the trunk closed, so it is more useful than I anticipated. Has lots of goodies in it but it amazes me that it has no glove compartment light. How primitive! May be getting a 1974 Mazda PU in the near future. Victor.

Daily driver is a '97 VW Jetta GT
Since I owned a '72 240Z, I figured I also needed a '72 motorcycle. Last year I bought a '72 Honda XL250. Fun to ride around the back yard. I need to find a tail light assembly for it before I can make it street legal.

My daily driver is a '96 jeep cherokee. I also have a '97 bigdog motorcycle and a '28 Ford model A sedan. The model A is in bits and peices. I hope to make a street rod out of it.

My 280Z is my daily driver, but I'll still drive my Buick Century every now and again or when the Z is being worked on, like right now.

I have attached a photo of my 1988 BMW M6, its makes nearly 300 hp dinan chiped, and has the dinan stage one suspension. It's very refined and doesn't have that raw sports car feel and sound experience that I get from my Z! My daily driver is a 2002 Dodge Ram 1500 Quad cab pickup, with the factory 20" wheels, chrome step rail & hard tonneau cover, all in black. (Texas Car).

Since my 240Z hasn't run in two years, and I've never driven it, I drive my mom's 1993 Mazda Protege. 30 MORE MILES UNTIL 200,000!

Thats pretty cool how a few Z and ZX are still daily drivers!
How many other 70's cars can handle this job with such reliability? My 79 ZX fills the commuter role for much of the year (except winter) as it has for me for the last 16 years.

I now have added a 94 Toyota Previa van AWD for other commuting, and use it for my hauling band equipment and camping.

As opposed to the truck preference I have utilized vans for my home needs.
I now have a 7 acre spread , and am using the Previa for my tasks.
If it's hauling something like garbage I use tarps to cover the interior.

Previously an 82 Dodge one-ton filled this role. It is a camper van with high top roof. Excellent for camping, and carrying enormous loads.
This is the extended legnth Dodge van. The biggest freakin' van they made.
HUGE GAS HOG ( for sale!).

I like it because it has a bed ,stove and table, but not alot of other creature comforts to fill the interior so you can haul of tons of stuff.
But at 12 miles per gallon on the highway, the golden era of this van have come to an eventual close, at least for me.

Before that, I used a 72 Volkswagen Bus for my alternate daily driver along with the ZX.

My 78 was a daily driver up to about 4 years ago when it got stolen. It has always been reliable and still could be a daily driver today had I not bought the 810. It's also reliable and I've used it for a daily driver for a little over 3 years now. Knowing them both inside and out doesn't hurt. These are not 'drive them till they drop' type cars like they build now. Like the ones that will supposedly 100,000 miles between tune ups, etc. They need regular preventative maintainence. And I really wouldn't suggest that people of limited mechanical knowledge attempt to use them as daily drivers.

The only thing that my daily driver and my Z have in common is that they are both orange and Japanese, oh yea and they both get a lot of looks. I just had my '88 Suzuki Samurai painted 350Z orange a couple of weeks ago. Here are a couple of pics of both at a local show n shine last weekend.

2007 Kawasaki KLR 650, just got it!
2006 Infiniti FX35, my daily driver
2003 BMW X5, wifes buggy, (you should see the maintenance bills, whew!)
1995 Mazda pickup, 4x4 V6, for hauling the big/dirty stuff
1986 Porsche 944, keeps the miles off the daily driver
    1970 240Z, #4880, to be determined

I agree with the truck comments. I got tired of asking friends/neighbors if I could borrow their truck so we decided to get a used one and boy do I like having it.
