I also think your shop is awesome! Is it always that clean? I can't work in mess, unlike most of my guy friends. At the end of the day, I always put my tools away and throw parts in the corner, if I can. It has to be one packed day to leave stuff on the bench. But either way, your garage is still super neat!
Aside from all these outstanding garages and cool cars, I'm more impressed with this ongoing thread. Over 4 years and regular posts.
So here's mine. Just added the garage to the existing house last year. Inside fits the new (to me) '73 Z, '12 Audi S4, 2008 MDX and a '85 Toyota pickup. Oh and a free tax credit neighborhood electric vehicle (golf cart w seat-belts and signals)

Well, haven't been here in some time - I first posted on this thread in 2008 - can't believe that was 5 years ago!
My '72 240Z has been sold. I used the money to fund the work on my '66 Jaguar E-Type, which is a blast. I also made another acquisition - something I've wanted for a long time, my '84 Ferrari 308. I still pine for another Z car (which would be my 4th), and I'll make the move in time, but for now I'm enjoying my "toys". I'm also waiting on a '85 Jaguar XJS-12, which I received for free. It's in nice shape too - not exactly a super collectible, but cool enough that when offered, I took it!
Here's a pic of my current "collection"

Over the winter I put my "new" 240Z race car on the rotisserie and rebuilt it so it's kind of a new car. I also bought an original paint 1971 510 wagon from out west.

Just my personal opinion - the XJ-S is a beautifully styled automobile. Bank vault like is body rigidity, silky smooth on the road and whisper quite. A truly beautiful automobile - it is a shame it hadn't been built and sold by Toyota or Nissan. Great design but bad execution
We loved ours until the typical electrical/electronics problems started to raise their ugly head - then there was that engine fire - that sent it to the scarp yard.
If someone gave me an XJ-S, I'd build a "replica" of the Group 44 XJ-S { only with a Chevy v8 under the hood}... stunning!!

I finally did it! I pulled the trigger on a 1997 Porsche Boxster with only 45K original miles! They hardly come any cleaner than this. Yes, I know the "early ones" are a lot more problematic than the later ones, but this is the one I could afford! I'll be giving a driving report ASAP!
My suggestion is that you IMMEDIATELY put a fire extinguisher (or two) and kitchen mitt / oven glove in the trunk. The fuel rails on these beasts have a bad habit of cracking and spewing raw fuel all over the top of a hot engine. You need the oven mitt to open a hood with a roaring fire beneath it without burning your hand. Practice once or twice opening it with the mitt on, and if it ever actually happens, LOOK AWAY as you open it so you don't lose your eyebrows.
I've had three friends lose V12 Jags to engine fires, all the exact same cause. I also "offered" to put one Jag Flambeau on the side of the I-17 freeway out but a quick discussion with the owner revealed he'd prefer to collect insurance on it so we let it burn.
You NEVER, EVER forget that smell!

If its clean, original, reasonable miles, and does not have the digital dash its worth that all day long. The problem is, there are not many people shopping for one of these cars. I originally wanted a Shiro edition but too many people get caught up with how "rare" they are and price their cars too high, all of which still have them for sale.

I have wondered about the reliability of the digital dash. I think those were said to be a plasma digital dash? What kind of technology is plasma? Was that like the plasma TVs they make now? I had a 1985 300ZX that needed a replacement after a year or two. That thing was expensive so I went used. The new one was fine.
I am not sure what kind LED's they are and have never heard anything about them being plasma but I could be just misinformed. It is my personal experience that the dashes themselves are fine, its the power supplies that have issues. Several years ago I had a '88 2+2 with a digital dash that had a bad connector in power supply but it wasn't anything a small soldering iron and about 30 minutes of work could not fix. Others do go dark permanently for various reasons. After all, all of them are approaching 30 years old or have surpassed it since they were debuted in the 280zx so its a miracle that any of them still work properly. Me, I am just a fan of analog gauges and always have been. Most turbo cars were fully loaded and automatic so its hard to find one that is a base car with the turbo package, 5spd, and t-tops being the only option.

Something new to my garage.
I was looking for something interesting and fun to own. It needed to have modern A/C for use here in Florida. I also wanted something that I could add to my Classic Car Policy. After looking at several alternatives - I found this 1999 Mercedes-Benz SLK 230.
Purchased from its original owner. Garage kept with 50K documented miles. Super clean and in "as new" running condition. Everything works except the Factory Original Cell Phone.. {none of the Cell Carriers around here offer analog service}
The SLK is about the same overall size as a 240Z. Slightly heavier but with a bit more torque and HP from its 2.3L Supercharged DOHC I-4. Performance stock for stock, is a bit better than the 240Z.
A roadster with a retractable hard top - it gives me the best of both worlds. Top down - a fun roadster to enjoy when the weather allows. Hard top up - a well insulated coupe with really great A/C!. Also a very nice group of SLK Enthusiast to enjoy the car with - here in the Florida SLK Club.
If you want to see more of it - I put some pictures on my Web Page..

1 of the 280z in the garage.
Hi Randy:
Thanks - I may have to do that -The SLK is so smooth it is easy to creep up beyond 80 mph on the freeways - and not notice the speed. Also just too much fun to kick the supercharger in around 50/60 mph and let're rip up past 100.. Not that the car is so fast - just fun for a 2.3L.. Really kind of tempting to drop a SBC in it aka Brabas -
That Bronco looks amazing - very rarely see any of the small Bronco's offered for sale, unless they are total disasters. Maybe a "Big Oly" replica in the future to go with it?
Great looking car Moelk. I love the deep dish appliance wheels! Looks to have some lowering springs on it and CA tags. Was this car on Craigslist or Ebay? Seems like I remember a car just like this or similar to it for sale not too long ago. Would love to hear the back story on it.

Thank you Hardway.
I bought the car in Chico Ca last november. A friend in Sacramento made the deal for me. The car were on craigslist and with only a home number to call. I tryied to call for two weeks with no luck. My friend Leif in Sacramento then got a hold of him. The owner was around 55 years and had owned the car for 15 years and was the second owner.
7 years ago the car was stripped and got new paint and carpet.
Today the paint has some chips and a couple of smal cracks on the roof but nothing big. There are no rust on the car. The dash has some cracks as most of these car has. The one bad thing was that the original seats were missing (a couple of courbeau seats were in the car), but i found a pair in San Fran that i got shipped to Leif in Sacramento.
Then i placed an order at Msa that inc 15 konig rewinds, tokico illumina and springs, ceramic brakepads and shoes and brakelines and some more stuff.
I waited for the winter to end here in Sweden before i got the car shipped from LA. But for some reson the car got stuck in LA for 11 weeks before they put it on the ship. And then it took 5 weeks to cross the sea.
But now i am very happy and thrilled to drive it. Im hoping to pass all controls in about 3 weeks.
I think the car already is lowered so the tokicokit i bought will stay in the garage along with the konigs for now. I think the 14" thats on now looks very good.
I just need to get hold of some fender mirrors and put the Subaru sti diff in and im there./ Andreas
Despite my love for Z's, I just put a mint condition 1997 Porsche Boxster in the garage. 46K miles, silver in color.
The thing corners like it's on rails. And the mid-range power band is utterly stupendous. I love the ergonomics, and especially how the seat moves up and forward simultaneously, which, along with a telescoping steering wheel, makes finding a perfect driving position easy
Probably my only "complaint" is the exhaust note is a bit tame. If anything this vehicle is a little TOO refined.
The seller spent 30 minutes with me showing me how to put the softtop up/down, take on/off the hardtop, various controls, etc. That's something you never have to do with a Toyota or American car, give INSTRUCTION on it to a new buyer. This included a fuse-based wire doo-dad (built from plans downloaded from the Internet) that will conceivably allow me to open the front trunk should the battery ever go completely dead; a major oversight on Porsche's design, leaving an owner utterly UNABLE to access the trunk where the battery itself is located for purposes of charging and/or replacement.
The engine is invisible; supposedly by removing the soft top I can see the TOP of the engine in order to change the air filter or add some obscure fluid (power steering? brake?) if ever necessary. Access to the (oil) dipstick and coolant reservoir is in the rear trunk, windshield washer fluid in the front. And not enough room in either for a set of golf clubs. Apparently this car is for driving, not for golfing or antique shopping.
(Even my first generation MR-2 had a decent rear trunk; the only thing it couldn't haul was a medium-sized framed picture; yet I regularly hung my surfboard out the sunroof!)
After a spirited drive home along La Posta road I gotta say, "Wow." This is some sports car."
I love my 280ZX. It's fun and (mine in particular) truly has character. But the Boxster, 20 years newer, is in a whole different ballpark. It may not be a "supercar" along the lines of an NSX, but, wowzer, it's truly fun to drive.
Very cool, glad you like it. I've always had a soft spot for the Boxster, even though I haven't liked 911s since they went to water-cooled engines.
944, 928, Boxster - I'd love to own any of them.

Driving the 280ZX today, here were the things I realized, compared to the Porsche.
First of all, I just LOVE looking out over that long hoodline. It STILL reminds me of the XKE hood.
Second, I like how the ZX squats under acceleration.
Third, the ZX, at least mine, gives a greater PERCEPTION of speed. Perhaps that's because of my noisy window seals, buzzing shifter, etc, but it feels like I'm driving faster.
I honestly believe the ZX is a tad more aerodynamic even than the Boxster. It's a joy to drive fast in a (relatively) straight line. Even with the windows down there's little or no buffeting.
I'm going to continue to fix up my ZX. I'm torn between two lovers.

Well, I took last winter off from "project cars" and decided no way i could do that again. Then while following a thread about a low vin 240 I noticed Jerry's Toyota FJ40 project and thought…."wow, I have always loved the old 40's" so I started searching.
I found a nice solid TX "no rust" 1977 FJ40 and decided to make it my new winter hobby…….It was basically rust free with only one fender and some surface rust that needed extra attention. I have been stripping it to bare metal so my body guy can work his magic and then paint the rig, it will be Dune Beige.
Here's a few pictures, probably won't be ready for paint till late December.
The last picture is hopefully how mine will turn out…….we'll have to wait and see.

I was just talking to a guy who owns a speed shop that has done a few of these 5.3 litre LS motor swaps. He says that once the emissions programming is removed from the ECU, you can have a truck with 340 rwh (all stock w/no aftermarket cams, heads or headers) and still get 25 mpg on the highway.

Thanks, Carl. 1986 Toyota pickup. I was really looking for 06+ crew cab Frontier's and Tacoma's with 80-100k miles but was also watching the older truck market. If classic, I really preferred an 80-86 Nissan 720 ST like my past 2 but I truly hate that 8 plug motor and for some odd reason, the only nice ones I ever find have blue interiors. And I swore I would never get another after those 2. I also had my eyes peeled for an 87-97 Hardbody but growing up, I loved the V6 SE extra cab and all I could find was 4 cyl regular cabs. I like 80-88 Toyotas as well so I was daily searching on ebay. This one popped up last night and was just too clean to pass up. IMO it has great character and I hate driving boring vehicles. Plus, I feel confident with a detail and my photos, I could easily break even or make money on it should I ever sell. With the Frontier's and Tacoma's, they would only depreciate and wouldn't be nearly as coolIt has all new suspension, no rust anywhere and is 100% mechanically sound. It has been painted but from the 100+ photos in the add, it was an incredible job.

no cars worth posting - other than the z of course...
built 43 one a while back: custom frame, bodywork, exhaust, gsxr front end, ducati ds1000 engine and supersport swing arm. pulled off the efi and set up an msd ignition off the layshaft pulley, then fit a pair of flatslide carbs on it. 335 lbs with a full tank of gas - it has an intense desire to rotate about its rear axle in the first 3 gears...
42 is a slightly less extensive build, donor bike was 2006 ducati sport classic, custom fairing, exhaust, gsxr front end, seat/tail and a few other bits. this one is my touring rig - have another seat that will accommodate my wife. we do 1,000 - 2,000 mile trips every summer. great fun!

Yeah, I love old Yotas too. I've had seven of them over the years. I'm truckless right now though after a woman hit me in January and totaled my Tacoma. It's the first time in about 20 years I haven't owned one.

You know you may want to just enjoy it stock. Those things are nearing legendary status on truck forums. The truck collectible market is just going to stupid high prices as well. The toyota pick up will certainly be one of the first to start climbing.

Absolutely. I have no plans to modify it and actually am tempted to get some white steelies and the original graphics. The prices have been going way up for years. I paid a lot for it actually. And I agree, they will keep going way up.

Datsun 240z - 03/1971 - HLS30 - 24410:
So very stock at the moment..
Ok where to start! I have and had soooo many cars. In my garage now is a 73 duster 67 barracuda 63 fury 86 Fiero 88 suzuki samurai. Just sold a 69 Dayton original but not numbers matching 71 hemi CUDA convertible restomod 70 challenger and last but not least 2004 dodge rumble bee. It's the very first rumble bee ever produced! I have all the papers from Chrysler for it. Sad thing is in the last year or so the Dayton and 71 restomod CUDA had to be sold.
Oh I forgot my 1970 Datsun 240Z as well. It's not in my garage but in my carport so every time I come home I see it and work on it
I do not have a garage but I will tell you what I have.
1. 1978 280Z
2.1972 Chevy C-10 long bed (I have owned this truck since 95)
3. 1967 Jeep J2000 Pickup (my sons project)
4. 1999 Chevy suburban
5.2002 Volvo V70 (wife's Driver )
6.1989 Jeep Cherokee beater
7.1979 Apache tent trailer
Not mine but stuff I am working on
1. 1978 CJ-5
2. 1969 K5 Blazer
@Werup - love what you did w/the beemer, i appreciate the amount of work it took to get from point A to B. great to see a kindred spirit on here re: bikes.

Found this 76 Kawasaki KZ 900 in a barn.
Been sitting for 20+ years in various places. It has 18000 miles on it.
When I expressed interest in restoring it the guy said if you want it you can have it
It was on a trailer and in my garage pretty fast.
There was no ownership. When I went to search the VIN.# there was no record of it in the system. 10 dollars and a declaration and it was mine with a valid title. They purge VIN#s if they are inactive in Ontario after a certain number of years.
Replaced all the ignition components, changed the oil and cleaned the gas tank. Put some clean gas in it.
It fired up and ran poorly at first. Now it runs good and pulls like a train. Love the Japanese engines.
Thursday it was safe-tied and licensed legally. I had my last bike plate on it with a 1987 sticker just to sneak out on the back roads to put some miles on it to shake the cobwebs out.
I hope to restore it to original trim.
Casey
