    Default Canby '09, June 13 & 14, who's coming?

The NW Datsuns' show in Canby is approaching, just over 5 weeks away. Are you and your Z ready? Who's planning on coming, and which car will you drive (if you have more than one)?

In past years, many of us local and semi-local CZCC members and friends have gathered at 9:30ish on Sunday at the Southbound rest area on I-5 and caravanned the rest of the way in together. Last year I think we had eight 240Zs and two 280Zs (and one 350Z) for the last 10 miles or so. How many can we get this year?

For any coming from points South, as in past years I plan to leave the Eugene/Springfield area at around 7:30 Sunday morning. Can probably arrange stops in Albany and Salem to link up with others on the way to the rest area.

    Sound off!

I am going and planning on meeting at the rest area . Driving my Yellow '73 240. this will be the third year.
If anyone is interested there will be Auto cross on Friday and Swap meet Saturday and Sunday. I think the Auto X is at a different location so contact Datsun's NorthWest for info on that. If you wish to show your Car with judging you can sign up when your enter the gate. They will not create a class but if your ride fits in with one that is established you are good to go. Otherwise you will be put in a class that is different than your car. If you pre-register witch you can do over the net, they will create a class if needed. www.datsunsnw.org
5/10 is the deadline for pre-registration. It's always good to see great cars and meet new and old friends. Hope to see many. Gary

We usually leave the rest area at 9:30 sharp. If arriving from the north , the Roadside Rest is just past the first Canby Exit. Some were confused by this last year.
5/10s and Roadsters are also welcome by all means!

Same is true coming from the South. Go past the first Canby exit, get off at the first exit after the Northbound rest area and flip around to the Southbound rest area.

Sure, other Datsuns are welcome, but they have to get at the end of the line!!

Default Headed for Canby as well

Hey I think I can come this year. I'll get over for at least 1 day. Hopefully the weather will be good for the roadster. Have to decide between the 67 1/5 or the 68.

Look forward to seeing some people.

We're definately gonna try for Sunday. We have made it 2 years in a row, so the third time should be a charm. I really wanted to bring the 260Z but I shot to high in my guest-a-ment as to a finish date. Turns out, I was off by about a year.

But on a good note, My ZG Flares and Carpet kit will be in next week, and the weather-stripping kit is back ordered. Front suspension is done, rear is ready to go in after undercoating. After I mount the ZG's, I can measure up and order the wheels. (17"x 9.5" Rota's)

    Hope to see everyone there.

I'll be driving up with another couple from here in Springfield (in a '77 Zzzap). Like last year, we plan to stop on the way at the Allann Bros. mothership in Albany, probably around 8:15. We could meet there...

Nope, gotta do a valve adjustment and a few remedial tasks and she should be good to go. I hope the weather holds out, that year with the constant sprinkles was a PITA. Roll up the windows, roll down the windows, and repeat.

    Default Canby Show

Well sports fans Canby is next weekend. Saturday is a Swap meet and Sunday is the show. Remember those that wish to arrive in a group, we are meeting at the rest on I-5. From the north it is just PAST the first Canby exit . Looking to be leaving at 9:30 sharp. Hope to see you all at he the rest and or the Show. I am not entering my car in the show so I will be parking to the left of the entrance the '' riff-raff'' area. This is going to be a great show this year. I hope to see many of you, please stop by and say high. Scanlon is bringing his Roadster and I think his gold 240 also. Many familiar names will also be at this show.

Yup. As mentioned earlier, getting to the rest area from the South is much the same. Go past the first Canby exit, get off at the first exit after the Northbound rest area and flip around and back onto I-5 South to the Southbound rest area.

My wife and I and another couple in a '77 280Z will be coming up from the Eugene area. May be meeting up with Mike in Albany as well. (At least that's the plan right now.)

I'll be there on Saturday around noon. I'm camping for the weekend.

I will be arriving with a mixed group of Datsuns from the Seattle area. Z-cars, 1200, 510, and 620s mostly.

It wouldn't be June in Oregon without the threat of some liquid sunshine. Worst thing that may happen is we have a couple of cars what, melt??

Regret to say we will not make it this year... Too many electrical bugs to work out and the lack of playdough mean we have to sit this one out. Always next year!! I will go for a short cruise however just to hold back the tears.
I dunno how fast I was going.... the speedo quit at 160.

there is a small group meeting at the Arco Station at Cornell and hiwy 26, leaving at 9:00. I plan on being at the station at 8:30 or so. We need to leave at 9:00 to make the 9:30 meet at the rest stop. So be prompt. Looks like it's going to be a great day.
From what I heard the Auto cross was a ball today. I had honey dos or I would have been there. Several are camping at the event in Camby tonight and Saturday night. If I could I would be there and do that. Too much fun.

I'm gonna leave home a little earlier this time. I don't need another $100 ticket. I was doing the same speed as everyone else, but my Z stood out over all the rest of the cars.

    Federal way sucks.

Thanks for the heads up Gary! I'll be there around 8:45.

I'm going to the show Saturday and Sunday....I've got some books and parts to sell, and parts to find, and going the extra day will allow me to get a better look at some cars and talk to people.

Yah be careful Dave! I hate that area up there, especially on the weekends. Too many speed traps and idiot cops. Cruise control comes in handy as long as you set the speed around the speed limit.

    See you at the show!

Well, It was yesterday now. Sorry I didn't report back last night as I was busy jinxing the weather by washing the car for today.....

Autocross was fun. About the turnout I would have expected for a Friday. Tight course laid out for the morning sessions and a faster open course for the afternnon.

There were participants driving everything from 1200s to 350s. A really mixed bag....

Raining like a cow peeing on a flat rock in West Salem at 6:30 Ayem Sat. Must be Datsun Driving Canby Fun '09......

Saturday report. Good turnout of all manner of Datsuns (which is, of course what Canby is all about) with the weather cooperating to the max. It was raining like crazy in Salem when I left home and rained all the way up I-5 until all of a sudden between Woodburn and the Donald exit I notice my intermittent wipers were cleaning a dry windshield and the road was dry. Got to the fairground to no rain and it was cloudy, no rain, with a light breeze all day.

I assume as a function of the economy the vendor spots were all sold out and people were having a hayday.

Tomorrow should be a hoot.... Ton of door prizes so when you guys show up get your door prize tickets early.....

    Default Canby '09 Sunday funnies

Canby 09 has come and gone having I think earned high marks for wether, turnout, tire kicking etc. but i have to share a good news bad news story that cracked me up.

One of rhe local 510 guys contributed boxes upon boxes, + a set of wheels and tires and a bumper or two for the raffle. It was the big prize thus the last one awarded and wouldn't you know it was won by a 510 guy which is the good news. Bad news is he's from Phoenix AZ and flew up just to partake of the fun and frivolity.

I'm not aware of anyone else there that flew to Portland for the Canby event but I have to think winning what had to be four or five hundred pounds of "collectables and near collectables" to try and get back to Phoenix was going to be a struggle.

Also the "rest area contingent" had to schedule their arrival just after shift change at the front gate when I came on duty. Nest year, if you hammerheads can muster getting up just a tick earlier, would it be too much to ask that you get there some time between 8 and 10?? Hm?

Anyway I'm sure others will be along with more stories and pictures but that's it from my corner of the room.....

The "rest area contingent" (13 S30s and one S130, this year) Could have arrived possibly 10 minutes earlier had the last few (cough, Gary, cough) been on time. (Just kidding!)

The sun could have come out a bit earlier, but other than that, it was—as usual—a pretty good time, seeing cars and chatting with friends we don't see in person near often enough. Only one dark spot for me personally, when I discovered that some cretin had relieved my car of its fuel door latch while the car was unattended during the raffle/awards ceremony. (If you who stole my car's part are reading this, let it be known that karma WILL get you in the end. We all reap what we sow.) So I'm now looking for a really great fuel door latch.

    I'll upload my pics shortly.

I thought we arrived just before 10? Yes, Arne, I am sorry to see your fuel door latch was stolen. It's probably just another negative item on his long list of poor-boy antics. We will find you a new door latch.

Aside from Arne's mishap, I think the show was great fun. I can't complain, my car saw the light of day and it's FIRST Canby show. Maybe next year I'll put it in the competition.

And, I was finally convinced I need to replace those wheels. My trip home was s-s-s-h-a-a-a-ky... Arne, I liked your idea. Buy the new Konig's and use my existing tires. This will save me some great money. BRILLIANT!

Oh, and Dave, thanks for the parking light harness. I was giving you crap in my message above. Workmanship looks excellent, you definitely know what you're doing. I'll let you know how the install goes.

    Edit:
Bruce, I wanted to say THANKS for working at the show. The NWZ gang did a great job and it really showed off. It was a lot of work and I know it's good to hear feedback.

That sucks Arne. This is the first year I stuck around for the raffle stuff (well most of it at least) and as we were all standing over there I looked back at the cars and wondered if they would be ok. I guess the thief had a series one car, because they apparently weren't interested in the hubcaps from my 72 . If I had brought one of my early cars and someone had stolen the plastic fuel door knob from it I would be livid! I'll look around and see if I have a spare metal one for you.

Sorry again to Arne for the idiot who stole your latch. Some peoples kids huh?

It was good to see Arne and wife, Gary, Tony and Hubby, Mike G, Enrique, Roger and Tara and all the rest of you today. We finally made it home as I almost daZed off on the way home. So I did a pit stop and woke up before hitting the road again.

** ALSO ** We ended up following the "1st Place Winner" (White 240Z, stock class) Canadian Plates, being followed by a Goldish Brown 260Z 2+2, from Tacoma to Marysville. It was pretty cool with all 3 of us flying thru traffic in tandom. The Looky Loos were abundant....

I spent so much time talking to Greg and other people (who were interested in the car and it's Many upgrades and Unique items) that I did'nt get much time to look around like I usually do. But for the few cars that I did see, It was worth it, as usual. And being part of the "Rest Area Contingent" and driving in the LOOOONG line of Z cars makes it worth it even more each year.

Mike, don't forget to take measurements (volts) before and after installing the PLH. Good to see ya again. Car looks great!!

Yeah, the fuel door latch tends to leave a sour taste, but overall the good definitely out-weighs the bad. One way or another, I will find another door latch, although it may take some time to find one as good as what I had. But seeing other cars, visiting with friends and sharing info was great, as always.

Yah I agree it was a great show this year!

Dave thanks a bunch for spending the time. I'll let you know when I get the delay unit all figured out and hooked up and working. If you like it and want to use it, I can make one up for you too easily enough.....let me know.

I was 3 minutes late this year, so I delayed Gary's group a couple minutes, but I suppose we can shoot for 15 minutes earlier next year....sound like a plan Gary?

Arne, I was just about to jack my car up and get a picture and some info for you on that clutch slave cylinder, so you can expect to hear more about that from me soon. I hope you're able to find a good fuel door lock soon and for not too much scratch. Whoever took it has no shame.....

It was nice to see everyone again....Hugh, Gary, Roger and Tara, Dave and Leah, Reuel, Rich, etc.

WAITE A MIN. . We were actually 6 min early to the rest stop.
It was really great on the way to the event to look back and see the line of great cars with there lights on . Once again I ended up in front of the line leading the group, but this time I didn't get lost. To much fun.
Other than Mikes yellow Z and Mine There was another, a 280 and I met the owners briefly,at the rest stop, and planed to see them at the Show. But it seemed that we all scattered like a covey or Quail after we parked. I never had a chance to talk with them. Maybe I will see them in the near future at a show or cruise.
Where we all parked . We represented some of the finest early Zs at the show.
By the way NorthWest Z is having there Show N' Shine on August 29 at Forged Performance in Troutdale Or.

I was towards the tail of the line (11 Zs in front of me), and Gary's right—that is quite a sight. A whole lot of fun being part of a group like that, almost as good as the show itself.

Sean and Norma live here in Spfld and came North with us. They don't get out to very many gatherings, or at least, they haven't so far.

Agreed. There was an impressive number of very nice Zs—mostly 240Zs—in attendance. Hard to see that many in one place outside of a show like MSA or the National Convention. Very impressive for a regional club show like this.

Here is a picture I took of the line of Z's in front of me as we left the rest stop. There were still several other Z's behind me too. I tried to post the picture to the the gallery under the Canby event pics, but it doesn't look like it worked for some reason.
