Talking Replicating Rare NGK Decal ? Group Buy Idea

    Whats UP yah

    Like to know who's interested....

I have this idea to replicate a Vintage Rare "NGK Grand Prix Suzuka" decal.
Size is 3.5 inches in diamter,
    Heres a pic of it.

Name:	1963 - 1964 NGK Grand Prix Suzuka Decal.jpg
Views:	134
Size:	38.8 KB
ID:	33564

I only seen 2 of these ever and they're based from "according to the source",
the 1963 to 1964 Grand Prix Suzuka which the Fairlady 1500 won in it's
class in it's first year of racing.
More information about the Grand Prix at this link
    http://www.datsun.org/fairlady/JapanGP1963.htm

Member Mike B. was instrumental in helping me get these so I gave him the
other one for helping me out, Thyanx again bro

However the Grand Prix went on for several more years so this decal
may actually be anywhere upto the early 70's,
(based on lettering and font style it is correct for all those years), or as the
source said from the inagural race 63' 64' it's self.
Since our Z's use NGK's I figured these would be a period correct look and
deffinatley cool since it also depicts a famouse Japanese race track

    OK to the point,
I like to know how much interest there is to make this happen, so if
    your interested chim in.
The numbers and price I have in mind so far is that we'll need
15 to 20 members at $25 each and that would get 3 decals per
    member for that price,
( one for both sides of the Z and a spare for the the hood the car or
    a lunch box ^_^ ).

I'm sending off my original along with detailed photo copies of Mikes to
a vinyle sticker manufacture to have a artist proof drawn up.
The proof is a all new original rendering based from the decals,
just so you know this not a scan and print job.
These will be Automobile grade vinyle, 150 lines of
High resolution picture quality, die cut and of course long lasting.

The proof well be a mix between mine and Mikes giving a nice clean perfect
version of the design with out any flaws or overbledding caused by the
original printing processes of the 60's and 70's.
    So it will be perfect!
Once the Proof is is rendered I will submit it here for your guys
approval first before sending it to press.

Once we agree on the proof we can make payment then.

If you have any thoughts or ideas or sugestions of any kind please let
me know as one thing I thought was to make it 4 inches instead of
3.5, but I think it would be better to keep it in the original size as
    intended IMO.

On a side note also I'm looking into geting any of these ANSA decals and
Prince Datsun fender emblem replicated aswell.
Link -> ASNA Race Sponsor decals
The big red one is 8 by 6.5 inches but can be made in 6 by 4.5.
That one will be a bit more pricy since it will have to be die cut to a
    custome shape.
And the "1960's F1 race car" shaped one is a reverse window type in the
colors of Red, Blue Black and Green with the ANSA logo in the center.
You can barely make out the details under the cover sheet.
Once again same quality as for the NGK decal.

Woooo, thats aot of typing ~Z~

You do realize these designs are copyrighted and you need permission to sell them don't you?

Thought there was the public domain rule if this peticular design was more than 20 or 30 years old. If not then who do i need to contact, NGK head quarters?

I'd get a hold of NGK fist, they might like it even if they have rights to it, besides its a way to cover your @$$.

Bearing in mind that I am not a lawyer, here is my understanding. Trademarks are not the same as copyrights. Copyrights can expire and enter the public domain if not renewed. Trademarks have no such time limitation, and are protected until/unless the owner abandons it.

And since NGK still uses the same starburst and NGK lettering on their current products, I think it's safe to say they haven't abandoned it yet.

Good points. I'll try and get hold of NGK tomorrow. The ANSA logo i might have some sway with getting the green light since I know some folk in the company. I hope they all say yes cause these things are way to cool for them not to offer in the first place.

Or maybe transplant this 'idea' to them that 'they' need to replicate this sticker for an historic advertising campaign to produce world wide for free to the public. Anyone remember the STP sticker campaign?

It looks like Nissan could use a few reproductions to replace the originals on this Fairlady roadster in their Zama warehouse.

. Thanks Mike for the pics but Ooooo, my cell phone has crappy resolution. I can't make out NGK decals on it. Is this the one from race? Beautiful car though from what i CAN see . Trying to find period photos of it or other cars from the race to see/confirm what they actually had on them.

It looks like the same silver Fairlady 1500 from the 1963 race in your link (#39). I assume it is the original car, since it is in the Nissan storage facility with the other original Nissan race cars. The decals are below and just forward of the Fairlady fender emblems, which are mounted below the side mirrors. Here is a blow up of the passenger side decal, but it is very faded.

I like the decal the way it is but I's like to see a replica or clean original shown with the car.

It looks like all the other 47+ year old decals/stickers/graphics on the car have been redone. I wonder why not the 'NGK'?

. Knowing Nissan problely not for a lack of trying and because maybe they didn't have a original to base a copy off of. Notice all the fine details not on the one from the car no more. I've scoured the net up and down in all possible word combinations and couldn't find even a vaguely worded description of this decal, let alone a picture, other than the Fairlady site. And that was cause the seller knew what race they were from. So im guessing they were a one race only print and the originals don't have any makers marks on the back.

    Talking Updates updates ! !

    UPDates !

OK 1st I'm just looking at that silver fairlady for the first time on a real
computer and that thang is beautiful

Alright now heres whats cracking, I got the green light on the F1 ANSA decal !

So I can go ahead and start making those, if your interested please let me
know by posting here and if enough interest I can put something together.
Keep in mind theres is a cover on the one in the pic and the colors are a
very vibrant Green, Red and Blue ( Italy's colors) with a nicley detailed F1 car that
has the ANSA name in the middle or air dam and is reversed to
    mount inside of a windshield.

If we should not make it for a windshield and just go with the normal
fender or face side up mount instead let me know that too.
Aslo maybe make it bigger than the size shown.

The Big red ANSA shield logo is lawyered up
and the yellow square ansa sticker is/will no lnger be made.
Check this out, when Fiat (of all people) bought Ferarri they said ANSA
can no longer put "their" Ferarri name on the mufflers.

Lastly with NGK I left 3 measages with the guy in charge and still no replies.
I even called again today 3 hours ago and still no word yet.
I might have to take this up with Nissan and cite the fairladies need for
    an upgrade

    OK To be continue. . . . ~Z~

Think you would have a hard time finding anyone at Nissan that actually cares about their customers.....called the customer service line lately???

Definitely think those NGK stickers would be cool for things like a center section of a clock as part of a nostalgia decoration in a garage or "Mans Room"

    Wink

OK just checked my UPSP trakcing number on the ANSA decals and
they are now at the doorstep of their distination.

Got the Phone number to Nissan Japn today and hopefully they will put me
in touche with the Zama Warehouse to try and pull some wieght with
    NGK Hopfully.
NGK USA went far as saying they don't even have anything, like a
program of some sorts, for "Historical decals".
Nor any in stock of course .
Guess they would rather see the history go down the drain with these
last 2 we know of still existing .
Guy I spoke with was Mark, the Marketing Manger for NGK USA.
A cool guy to speak on his behalf but seemed his hands where tied on
this project from this end of things.
Will update as usuall when I talk to the Japan guys.
    Hoping ZAMA will help!

Big Red ANSA sticker decal replicas starts production this Monday and will arrive home about 10 days after that . 8x6.5 inches of coolness . I've enlisted the help of Kats with "Saga NGK" in hopes of finding a contact with Zama or a "higher up" at NGK Japan.

They're here ! The Big Red ANSA Stickers are done! Please visit my parts store link in my Signature to see the many many pics I took of them on my wonderful 280Z in the Decals Stickers section of the store. They're $20 bucks each and can be bought at the ebay link, again in the parts store Decals Stickers section, then clicking the other items for sale link to find them. Please tell me what you all think . ~Z~

Just got my hands on a pair of authentic 13.5 x 5 inch "ANSA SPORT" stickers! The background is white with the words ANSA in red and SPORT in black if your not familiar with the logo. Only two I've seen since I started hunting Ansa's . And also got 3 of the same clear static cling reverse windshield version of this ogo in 5.5 x 3.5 too! The white paper backing can be left on to make it more visible as well. Put one of the static cling ones inside of my quarter window. AND IT LOOKS COOL, YEAH . Will post pics tomorrow or on Monday when I'm back home. Saga NGK . . . . continues . . . .
