    Default WTB: Datsun 240K Coupe

    Hi all,

Yes, yes...I know, join the queue...as per my post on ozdat and other forums, I'm looking for a Datsun 240K Hardtop (cooler) or the right Sedan (more practical - but I really want the coupe), as close to original condition as possible.

Can't afford an immaculate resto (several years searching, haven't seen one advertised anyway), definitely don't want a project, a good daily runner is the target. Prefer a South Australia car, but send me a PM and let me know where you are (in Australia), what you've got and what price.

    Cheers,
    Duane

    Sucks to be me.

I didn't bother looking at the primer grey SA one (Sigma Turbo wheels), or the nice original looking yellow Victorian coupe on eBay a few months back, because they were both too 'rough'...then my job situation changed, and I had to take a drastic reduction on my goal of buying a fully restored car (not that they seem to exist!). I still want one, with less outlay, but missed those couple in the meanwhile.

Found plenty of projects, but I've got 2 projects and no shed space left. Besides, I want a runner I can use.

If anyone has any leads, I'd really appreciate it.

I guess by the sound of it you want the same deal I got when a really old relative basically gives it to you.

No, I'm good for it. I was all over Adam's blue one (Victoria) in 5 seconds flat...it would have been in my garage right now if it didn't stay in his family. So that gives you an idea of the cost and condition I'm considering.

Basically, I want a good original runner I can drive and fix, not a wreck to restore, or a show car for $30k. Still, I'd never knock back a gift Kenmeri if someone wanted to give one to me.

I'll post some pics of 'ideal candidates' later.

OK, attached is the sort of thing I'm looking for/expecting...if you have something for sale, please PM and tell me what you've got, and what it's worth. The more original, the better.

My apologies if these cars belong to anyone here, I just picked them off the 'net. Happy to remove if it's a problem.

Of course, I'm more than happy to consider something in better condition, as it will end up being this:

    ..or this:

Drool. Just can't afford this sort of car right now.

    Cheers,
    Duane

    Stop it...ya killing me!

My wife and I had just had a baby with Laggy's car appeared at MGS Auctions, so it pained me to let that one go (even more now I look at the thread on his car...looks fantastic!).

Something will appear one day...I've been searching carsales.com, Gumtree and eBay every day for 2 years, so not much escapes my notice. I guess this thread is to cover anything that pops up unadvertised - then I can stop admiring from afar and have some fun!

I've got the grey primer 240k (Sigma Turbo wheels) that was on eBay a few months back. Trained it across to Perth WA. Restoring her. Don't see many 240k's over here. :-)

    No probs, hijack away!

I haven't found project cars too difficult to locate (although not necessarily 'cheap') and I've knocked back a couple here in SA...I want a good runner though. If anything pops up for you, I'm happy to pass on details. Spread that Kenmeri love!

a word of advice - patience is going to be your greatest friend.
been searching for 3 or 4 years and only just bought one. had to ship it over from cairns too (I'm in SA).
also don't be overly fussy on condition... be prepared for a full restoration and then if you find one in okay condition then you're one step ahead.

    cheers,
    declan.

You beat me!?! Congrats! Resto or a good one?

I've been looking on/off for a decent one since most of you guys were in primary school, had to pass up the best one I found to one of the guys on this forum because my son arrived 2 weeks before it came up for auction...not a great time to buy.

    Patient...I'm like freakin' Yoda.

    thanks mate.

going from the pics i'm going to say 'mild restoration' but i suppose i'll see once it gets here, i'm prepared for a full blown restoration.

it's going to be taken back to bare metal anyway so yeah.

yes, Laggy6's is immaculate and i'm sad that i didn't notice it come up for auction. i would have bidded fiercely if i'd seen it.

    funny story actually.

I was at lunch with the family and was talking to an uncle about how difficult it was to find one (he used to have a Z back in the day).
he told me that he'd keep an eye out in canberra for me where he lives but to just not be put off at how long it was taking as I would find one eventually.

when I got home, I got onto Gumtree and searched for one in SA with no luck, then on a whim checked QLD gumtree and found an ad with very little description, I think it was something along the lines of 76 240k coupe, very rare, manual, factory dark green.

I called the owner with zero hope of it actually being there still only to find that he'd posted the ad about ten minutes before I called. he sent me some photos, we agreed on a price and now the car is on its way to me.

it was just one of those things where the universe delivered I guess.

    cheers,
    Declan.

Hey, good one Declan...I check Gumtree nation-wide religiously, so you timed it well!

I guess this is a good time to re-affirm my committment to finding a good one, so IF anyone out there knows of a good to mint runner (so anything $5k up), I am interested. I don't want a project unfortunately, I want to drive daily...also as original as possible. Heavily modified cars from interstate are not going to make it through SA rego, so I won't pay top dollar unless it has the original spec motor.

I'm also looking for Isuzu Belletts and Bellett GT's, Prince Skylines, Prince Glorias, early Corona hardtops (RT50 to RT75) and 1600S, 410 Bluebirds (especially SSS), Mazda 1000 Coupe, Honda Z360, Hino Contessa, Subaru 1400 GSR...anything similar, Japanese or not, try me

Any leads, please let me know.

    Cheers,
    Duane

    It's not well.

Thanks Declan, but I definitely don't need another project, really looking for a car I can jump in and drive immediately...that's been the issue. Projects aren't difficult to find...I think there's a few of us on here who remember when you could get a 240K for a slab of beer, most of them were run into the ground.

It's a roller coaster ride, but after being forced to press the little Bellett GT into daily service, I reckon I'm looking for a daily again...it would be nice if I could combine my search for a C110 hardtop with the need for daily transport.

I've been kindly offered a few projects on here over the years, but looking for a decent runner ~$6k-ish (yeah, yeah, I know there's plenty of gold diggers on eBay that want half that for a rusty shell, but the neat white one from QLD that sold for $6k a little while back is the benchmark)...anyone has one they'd like to move to a loving home, please feel free to PM me.

    Cheers,
    Duane

Still looking, will go a sedan if anyone has a suitable daily driver (i.e. no projects) to part with. Optimistic, yes, but if you don't ask...
