It depends on who you talk to,
I don't know much about them myself,
but there is some good discussion about them on HybridZ

3 screw round tops- rare as. def early type no emissions stuff, used a different needle and are bigger 1" 3/4(?) than flattops , best performer. have seen over 150whp with these( usually stirs up the weber lovers)
good score.
Haven't done much on the car as I've been distracted with my 4x4. But now I've stopped spending cash on that I'm back keen to work on the Datto. First bit of inspiration was a quick sketch I did in illustrator![]()

nah man not yet. few things i can hopefully get hold of off the spares car that wernt on it like heater box and drive shafts.. but so far its looking ok.
lucky i took the crossmember and struts out of the last one, because this one had engine mounts welded on for the rb20 and the struts wernt complete. so going to paint mine up and put them in, and do rear end to get it rolling.
heres a better pic

The other silver looked cheap n yuck so trying something different. Turned out more of a navy ship grey
I'm about to get big shelves welded up in the shed so I'll be able to sort all my stuff out. Like my 5 tail light panels and 15 door trims n maybe sell some stuff

Not a big update. I'm currently painting my front struts and bits to put the front end together. I have a workshop manual on the way.

ok. motivation is back!
even with a cold, i went and stripped brake caliper and painted it, finished painting strut, finally found the other tension rod, painted it, cut a stock spring down so i whack it in temporarily and started figuring out the order of all the bushes etc.
after seeing prices of some spares, i quite enjoy looking at my stockpile
ive got 8 tail lights, 5 garnishes, 3 dashes, 15 door trims etc haha
Next is to get the other side strut done then once its back rolling, start doing rear brakes

while ive been working on the front end, ive been looking all over the car and one thing i noticed was the inside of my doors had a lot of surface rust.
My doors have had the major rust cut out and patched, but i thought id treat the inside of the doors before they get any worse.. especially seeing as the old 240Ks have to be the rustiest cars i know
So i gave them a light sand, then got my bottle of chemsearch rust converter out, painted it on, then after a day it had turned black, i sprayed killrust enamel all inside the doors!
hopefully THAT will fight that bloody 240K cancerlooks a lot neater now

lucky not to have rust, always make sure the drain holes are clean .
Wanted: Hardtop interior pieces
ok. So after spitting the dummy with the struts i had and the one and a half calipers. i Bought a pair of struts off downunder datsuns page off a dude in adelaide. They have super low king springs and near new Monroe shock inserts with sumi calipers.
They had the brake line bracket taken off because they were in a 1600, so had a mate weld some one, painted them in my grey, and put them in. Bit of a pain with all the new bushes making everything so tight, and after getting one side put together, found the pin that holds the lower control arm was stripped so had to pull it all apart again. Lucky i had a spare.
Now i just have to connect steering arms and put the calipers on..progress!

yeah hopefully feels better than the first project that i drove for a couple days. Go round a corner, your mirrors almost touch the ground with that much body roll then 20 minutes of it wobbling down the road and feeling like you cant stop at the traffic lights the brakes were that spongy. haha! maybe a strut brace might tighten it up a bit more too. ive heard they are pretty wavy up front even with stiff springs

Yep kframe mounts and diff mounts are new nolathane![]()
76' 240K - full resto project
Suspension looks great man. Good to see it's rolling again.
Under the rear of the car has reminded me that this next project is a doozy..
Firsty the previous guy cut the spare wheel well out to put a flat floor in it, which is a bit of checker plate bolted in and scrap metal tacked in place. so that will be getting ripped out and a wheel well welded back in.
next is it had R31 disk rear brackets welded on not too well, and from what i gather that path was not going to be easy nor legal, so i will be grinding it off and putting drums back on.
Then theres the diff. It has this wicked burnout sick drag car spec centre in it, which i will be replacing, but on a good note i was told it has 3:9s in it. Which i was told at datsport that if it does, their not easy to come across.
All i can see stamped on the crown wheel is 'H 3 9 X 1 1 J 7-3' any ideas? (Edit. just found its 39/11 = 3.54 ratio. ie stock ratio) another bull**** fact thrown in when i bought the car
Also has big fuel lines that were bent all dodgy down the car as it was going to have fuel pumps under the car for the RB20. So new fuel lines will be run.
Another good note is that it has nolathane kframe bushes, wishbone bushes, diff mustache bushes, new pedders shocks and low king springs!
FUN FUN

poor thing, at least your saving it from certain death
Wanted: Hardtop interior pieces
So this is what im working with...
what was under the boot..
what they welded in place..
and some nice cut n shut work in the boot... not sure of the reasoning for this..
Then i noticed the rust repair in the rear quarters has been left untreated and theres real crispy bits of metal that probably still contains rust in the bottom so will grind it all back and see what needs doing.

Well with some time off work thought I'd get stuck in.
Removed drums off k frame I got from paddock car. Painted backing plate and ordered new protex brake cylinders and shoes off eBay.
I've also started wire wheeling under the car as it's all surface rust and painting with killrust enamel.
And finally took the grinder to the brilliantly welded in boot to cut out the 44 gallon drum lid out. Was hoping i sneezed so it'd fall out. Then To replace with new spare wheel well.

Hi Terry,
I just read through the entire build thread you have here, man what a journey over a couple of years and you still have a way to go.
Really admire your determination and passion for your K project.
Good luck with the rest of the build, I'm sure everyone can't wait to see it in the flesh!!
H.
Hi Terry,
I know you've well and truly sorted your diff woes out by now, but it got me wondering, and please anybody chime in with your knowledge or opinions.....
We have a 78 280zx 2+2 5 speed that has a disc braked diff. Has anybody used one of these units to upgrade a 240k sedan or coupe? They seem to be very similar just looking at it under the car but I haven't measured anything.
H.
so ive finally got round to welding in the new and improved spare wheel well. and patched the big hole in the boot. Thought that was about it but now found lots of rust in the bottom of the rear quarter.
Ive cut it out and tried welding new plates in but its real difficult with limited access to it and the shape. So i will try to patch as well as i can and then killrust it all and smooth it with fibreglass filler
