Rather than let these threads go on forever as they do in some other forums, I thought I'd start new ones for separate generations for the New Year. Use these threads for short, Twitter-like posts, things that may not be worth their own thread.
This one is for the S30s. Enjoy, and let's keep each other involved!

Today was sunny and 30 degrees ,,,so it was a nice crispy day to do a couple of mods on ORANGINA, installed a 14'' MoMo four spoke leather vintage steering wheel and remove the rear bumper chrome guards .

Doug, I've thought about the lift. The problem is the garage door tracks. I'd rather have a barn anyway. The daily driver is another Altima ('05 SE-R) so it would have fit. The truck lives outside. It knows its place.

Removed back hatch to redo defroster grid. Scraped defroster grid lines with razor blade and discovered that those grids are really on there. While I can't get them off that way I noticed they are now very smooth and shiny so I plan to put the new grid lines on top of the old ones. With my finger I can barely detect that the original lines are still there they are so thin even though they are easy to see. The old ones have high resistance everywhere I measure so they should not cause shorting with the new lines.

Almost ready to put engine in. Need to find a gasket for transmission. The PO took the rear extension off for some reason and gasket is torn. All the gears seem to work fine and engage...at least for now with no power going through it. Hope to get gasket this week, bolt transmission up, and put everything in. We'll see.

Frank,
When I saw you were looking for a 3 into 2 style header..I did a little searching..
found a couple sites...
these are what I had on my 3.1 stroker motor
http://www.nismoparts.com/catalog/?section=297
Here is another one I saw through a nissan dealership
http://www.nissanraceshop.com/produc...cyl-99996e1142
now keep in mind these are larger diameter headers..."race" applications...so to speak..more for a built motor that needs
to be "opened up" so to breathe better..
Do you have a stock motor in your Z? if you do, you might want to read through this forum topic :

NOT Empty Anymore...
Thanks, Jackboxxx. Like others, I'd like to get a set of Stahl headers, but understand they're no longer in business or have ceased producing for the L series. I found these on eBay, sold by a guy I've done business with before, http://www.ebay.com/itm/Datsun-Nissa...sories&vxp=mtr. I've written him inquiring of tube diameter and flange thickness. These headers have the square ports to fit my E31 head and from the photos appear to be pretty decent quality.
I'll further explore your other provided links via phone on Monday.
Many thanks!

The last two headers mentioned in this thread are just MSA headers. You can get them way cheaper from MSA themselves.
Link
Nissan Motorsports still advertises their header, but as far as I know, you can't get those anymore.

What did I do today, well, late yesterday. I finally got around to building aluminum roll-around frames for my jackstands. I need to have these so that I can move the car around to work on it and then roll it back out of the way so that I can park my truck back in the gararge.
I learned that a bad tachometer makes the car run like crap and makes some of the guages not work. Spent a while tracing wires, looking for a bad ground, etc. Swapped out tach and now have good oil pressure and cars idleing at 1100 rpm. Not bad for straight off one engine and onto another.
Brian
I came across a polished set of zx's wheels and the slots wheels will go on EBAY.
I installed a fuse panel and some relays behind the blower motor so I can clean up the wiring running to the radio, amp, fog lights, fuel pump. I put my windshield in today also, passenger side upper corner does not look like it is going to seal well, must of shifted over a bit or something when I was pulling from the inside. Corner trim pieces wont really stay in the grooves either, but owell I got a nice fuse panel installed and my radio is working so I will just turn it up and try to ignore the waves of water leaking into the cabin.

I got my 74 260Z out of the shop yesterday. I had a clutch master cylinder and slave cylinder installed. Also had the brakes bled. I took it out on its "maiden voyage" yesterday and it drove and performed pretty well. I am going to run a couple of tanks of gas through it then get the carbs adjusted. It has a one weird issue with the headlights. The headlights will only come on after the wipers are turned on. I can turn the wipers off and the headlights work fine. It also has a loud squeking sound in the right rear suspension. Oh yeah, and I gotta catch the mouse that has made a home in it !! Enjoying it and .... the project begins!!
Had to check out the new Rota wheels(16x7 +4) on my 240Z today, then shot some photos outside the garage.

40F but sunny today in NC so of course I drove my Z. Had an older couple hovering around my car when I came out of Big Lots. They couldn't believe it was a 38 year old car. Got home and replaced a sidelight bulb and then added a leather steering wheel cover over the old vinyl wrap.
Huh, kinda boring compared to picking up newly re-chromed bumpers.
Finished repairing the combination switches. The PO had clipped off all but three wires on the right side Molex connector. I picked up some new male pins and a Molex cripper and finished the repair. Now everything works (and wire colors are correct for the future) . A lot of work to fix what took seconds for someone else to screw up. Why do people hack the wiring on there cars so much?

Because the wiring/electrical systems on cars are "complicated" and they think they are simplifying it or removing a "problem."
What was connected to those three remaining wires?

Looks very pretty! but it looks like something/things are missing ?????
Went out to my storage place for the zed to view the damage from a farm truck backing into her! Not as bad as I feared, about a 4 inch scratch on the hood which gouged the metal, and a gouge in the rear bumper rubber trim. Perhaps this is the push I needed to get her painted properly! Only 3 more months before she can come out of the barn again!
Simplicity is beautiful. It's nice & shiny too
You gotta tell us what all that stuff is between the throttle body and the flow meter, and what you did to the intake.

Started by polishing and porting an N42 Manifold to a 60mm throttlebody and spacer. Began to build a billet fuel rail, but my experiences with ethanol and aluminum have taught me they don't mix. I might have the steel rail chromed at some point. Anyway...Rerouted the FI harness from the firewall and from the coil area. Bought new injectors. Removed the CSI, AAV, and thermotine switch. Used an intake tube adapter with vacuum ports to install the valve cover breather and dist. vacuum lines. Also polished thermostat housing and AFM.
Next project is assembling a spare head I'v torn down, has a new cam and valvetrain. Had to be sure my intake was done, the car has to start when I install that head...
Then a lightened flywheel is staring at me...
But today we drive...

My brother helped me with replacing the rear hatch weatherstripping and door jamb switches in the 260Z.
Oh, by the way, if you EVER decide to get an LED bulb for the dome light polarity is VERY important. I had my brother test the light while I worked on cleaning out the old weatherstripping. He said that it had voltage, but the light still didn't work. I had him pull the dome light from the 73 and test it in the 260Z. It lit up. He thought it was a bad switch in the dome light. I didn't think so because it was a new dome light. It was at that point in time that the cluebird of happiness came to roost upon my shoulder. I tested the bulb with a couple of lantern batteries. Sure enough, the polarity was critical. (Festoon bulbs aren't inherently obvious about polarity, especially to two men who can't see much of anything up close.) After marking the negative side with a paint pen, I gave the bulb back to my brother, and we had the dome light working again.

Several days ago when the weather was nice I wanted to get the Z out for a drive. Fired up fine, out of the garage to warm up, lets look under the hood. Pulled like always, and the entire handle and about a foot of cable came with it. I knew what had just happened.
Lucky for me, 6 years ago, one of the first forum posts I ever read on a Z-car was about the hood opening cable breaking and the problems involved in getting it open again. Smartly, I installed an extra cable in case this ever happened. I am surprised it let loose, however I think the hood has been opened more in the past 6 years than the first 33 years of its life.

I sold it to a kid for a lose just to unload it. I got tired of messing with it an bought a 70 Mercury Cougar XR7 coupe as its replacement for a daily driver.
Today I did some serious contemplating.......
I will be going to the MSA Zcar event at the end of April. And with that, I've decided to use the 17x9.5" Rota's with 275/40ZR17's in the rear and 245/45ZR17's in the front. The problem is they WILL RUB with a full tank of gas, luggage and passenger.....
So my big contemplation is to cut the fenders a bit, for clearance and instal the ZG flares. It's gut renching to think of cutting into my baby but I LOVE THESE WHEELS so much!!! If I do it right and tastefull, it will be worth it. But should I ever decide to change, I'm screwed.
I'll likely do it either way as my heart is really set on doing the ZG Fender flares and wide wheels. But I thought I'd see what you guys thought, or at least get it out there in script so I can look back and say "Well, at least I thought about it first, this time"

Its house of kolor epoxy...the only color the paint store had. Once I add filler in some spots and reprime with urethane it will be phantom gray, which is basically gun metal gray(same color as engine bay is now). I hate this lime green. Reminds of 1st z project that didnt end to well.

Gun metal will look awsome. 2 stage?
Yep. Hopefully within next couple weeks. Nason(dupont) paint.
Eventhough its wet out, I drove my Z today. Rust is the enemy but he its not pretty anyway. I'm not a showpiece, nor are my 2 Z's so i'm going to enjoy them both every chance I get.
Is 30 degrees outside but sunny and dry, this morning I took the cover of my Z room mate 510, the DIME has been resting for a while , so a good ride was in order, it started on the first click with choke half way, this 510 is a joy to ride, went to DD, for my cafe, then to BP to top it's tank with premium gas, then for a run on Rt 29 to Rt 40 to E City for a work related meet.

Sounds like a blast OJ. My Z's room-mate is a 67 2000 Roadster, but it is 22 degrees here (although the sun is just coming up, and it looks like it will be a glorious sunny day!), still a bit chilly for a spin in the old 2000. Managed to get the short block assembled for the Z last weekend, though, so making some progress on it!
Enjoy the ride!

Attached is my daughter on the right and friend who helped out. All in a days work for me.![]()
Wet sanding the clear coat, all day. This was the first car I ever painted, I learned a lesson today, get the gun set properly or orange peel in the clear coat will take absolutely forever to smooth out. I still havent knocked it all the way smooth, been using 3m 1000 but its still slow, afraid to go any lower on the grit. Might just buff it as is and go with it, kind of afraid to go thru and cause damage. My hands start getting tired and progress was slow, I got out the electric DA and probably not the best idea but used it for wet sanding. My garage is tied into the gfci switch, but I think it still was not the greatest idea I ever had.

Winter projects included fuel tank electrical connections cleaned - rear fuel filter cleaned - Honda upgrade fan blower - Honda upgrade wiper motor - A/F Ratio gauge - Fresh Oil/Filter/Plugs - disassembled headlights, new adjusting screws - restored splash pan installation..........I love the driving season but I also enjoy the off-season to get some of my to-do list completed.
Looking forward to ZDayZ at Tail of the Dragon

Picked up car from the paint both, had the type ll body kit removed and repainted car. Ordered new stainless bumpers to replace the body kit. New front spoiler added with the small rear spolier. Now the long road of putting her back together and have her ready for Z DAYZ.
I replaced two leaky hoses that carry coolant through the intake manifold. I took the car for a test drive on a nearby twisty road. Coming towards me in the opposite direction was a big Chevy pickup truck driving too fast for this road. He went off the road on the right, over-corrected, slid across and off the road on the left, swerved back onto the road back into his lane and regained control. By this time, I was nearly stopped as he drove past me. I am really glad that I had not been driving faster which would have put me in harm's way. Visions of "Frank in Houston's" scary and sad accident last week went through my head. Ugh.

We have some incredible early spring weather.
Got up early and drove to Niagara Falls (New York).
Picked up a case of Valvoline 10/30 VR1 oil and got a cheap tank of fuel in my wife's Pilot.
The oil is not available in that viscosity in Canada.
Got home changed the oil and filter and greased the front end and steering rack.
Got the Z out in the driveway gave it a bath and went for a drive.
The car ran like a champ.
I have never been able to do that on March 17 ever!

Today I removed a nasty mouse nest from my heater/blower housing. The car was stored for many years by the original owner before I got it two years ago. I had removed one of these nests from the glove compartment and another from one of the side vents, but I still kept smelling the mouse "residue" on long drives. (I only drive the car in nice weather so I never use the heat.) So, today I pulled the blower out. What a mess! I'll let the pictures tell the story...
The blower box...
Behind the dash above the heater core. This was packed solid...
Is it any wonder that my blower motor did not work?
And after cleaning, wire-brushing, sanding and painting...
The motor actually works again!

i did, as if anyone really cares, a lot. timing was at 40degrees, adjusted my SUs after dismantling them to find the valves stuck (one open one closed), plugs, adjusted my points which were closed ( not sure how it was running at all, alternator swap to 79 280zx finally complete, fixed left head light now just as brightly dim as the drivers side, my passenger side door now closes AND locks, fixed leak at thermostat to head installed new thermostat where there was none and ran new heater hose (or should i say around the back of the motor hose and slimed one tire in hopes that ill only have to fill three tires every few days instead of four. tomorrow ill do less i think and may have to go beach so i stop dreaming about all the things i have left to do to this datsun. thanks for your support...
im not going near that for a while, nice job though, looks like you just bought it.
I updated my build thread with pictures, but the text version is this:
Got attacked by a mouse that was living in the exhaust pipe.
Removed entire exhaust
Removed hatch
Removed tail lights and section
semi sorted loose parts

not today but over the last week, I adjusted my valves, rebuilt both the SUs, changed the oil in the engine and transmission, replace flexible clutch hose and clutch master cylinder, and replaced the battery, perhaps today I might try to crank her up and maybe even take it around a block.
After a mid week crisis with ORANGINA, she is now back to norm, yesterday morning she got a wax and shine treatment, today she will have her cabin detailed, she's getting ready for Sunday's local car event.Next Sunday the 510 will be attending the Sunday ritual.

i found out today that my headlights aren't working. Hi-beams are ok, but not regular lights.
On the upside, i finally received bumper mounts in the mail.

What did I do today (actually yesterday)? My daughter and I drove from Fairland OK. to Sioux Falls SD and then on to home (Wisconsin) to pick up a complete L28 engine. Was a great 900 mile day but we safely at touched down safely at home. The engine has 44,000 on and the price was right, free.
