    Default 240Z blinker speed

Does everybody's stock turn signals blink faster than most cars? Mine is faster on the tach gauge than the blinkers themselves. My Dad says older cars are like that but he spells Datsun with an "O". They work fine just faster than I'm used to, like there's a blown bulb. Just curious.

Mine doesn't blink that fast, most of the time normal, but occasionally speeds up for a split second then returns to normal speed.

This happens when there is a problem like bad bulb, short in socket ext.

I have the one on my 280Z flashing about once a second, but the other side is noticeably faster, almost twice a second.

I concur with the bad bulb theory if you think it is blinking too fast.
The other thing you can do is to swap out the old thermal flasher with an electronic one. These cost around $8.00 instead of $2.50, but they draw much less current and are more consistent.

Bad bulb, wrong bulb, corroded contacts, aging thermal, frayed or corroded wires or ground that are only nominally working, anywhere that is a mild short or overheating of a weakness will cause the incorrect pulse.

Also when the capacitor for the flashers starts to go it will blink faster and faster.

Some 240's may also have the thermal bimetal clicker module between the flasher and the socket.

The two devices click at a rate proportional to the current flowing through them...more current= faster rate. If your left side clicks at a different rate from your right then one side has higher wattage bulbs drawing more current, or one side has more resistance due to corrosion (in the sockets, connections or chassis ground) drawing less current or one side has a a short to ground drawing more current.

There is scarcely anything in the world that some man cannot make a little worse, and sell a little more cheaply.
The person who buys on price alone is this man's lawful prey.
