    Default MUST GO - HLS30 00201 - Project

    Anyone Close to St. Louis?

How about Eldon. MO... {aka Lake of the Ozarks}?
That's about 120 miles West of St. Louis.

I think this has been discussed before - but can't find the thread.. Anyway...

Bill Reagan - author of "How To Restore Your Z Car" - has a Project For Sale.
    HLS30 00201

Stripped and most of the body/metal work done. Complete Car - but completely disassembled. I belive the engine has already been overhauled.

Bill thinks he has $10K worth of relatively rare parts - used and some new.

He is moving - and has to clear out his storage area...
$3999.00 takes everything - the Car and all the parts - bring at least a 20 ft. trailer..

Might be a heck of a deal for anyone that wants to restore a 69 production year example.

I'll get his contact info if anyone is seriously interested.
    FWIW,
    Carl

Just bought 147 and I'm happy.

    Carl,

If I wouldn't have bought my car last year, I would have the resources now to buy Bill's #201. I've been watching to see who acquires it next and hopefully the next owner can complete the restoration.

I am seriously thinking about buying this. If my wifes head does not explode when I mention it to her. I just need a place to store all these parts.

    Are their any pics?

    Stephen,

There are a few photos on the Datsun Classifieds ad:

    Serial number 201 1970 datsun 240z, 1969, $ 3,900.00

Bill's contact information is also listed, but you may want to confirm that with Carl.

Yes - contact info in the Classifieds is Current. It seems to me that Bill said the engine was already overhauled.. You can check that when you call him. I believe he said he had already stripped the undercarriage as well.. you can check that too. Go get it Zedyone... if nothing else you can make a good profit just selling off the parts...

THat is the angle I want to play with the wife... the parts are like unicorn horns...

But what I would really like to do is restore it for my 5 year old. Let him see it when he is like 7 and it can be a father son project! Hell I have learned everythign I would ever want to know about Z's. I have a ton of spare parts.

I am going to email him tonight after I buy my wife a bottle or three of wine.

Said the pot to the kettle!

    HAHAAHAH

You made me spit out my coffee on this one.
Wife and I had a talk about this. She is saying what a rational person would say. You already have the same car. When are you going to have time to work on it. And the biggest question is this. What if the car is not complete? The true value lies in its early number, but if all the cool 69 parts are not there, then it will be darn near impossible to restore.

Plus she pointed out that it will be at leat 5 years before I can have any time to do anything with it. She is talking logic, but I am wanting to buy with my heart.

I will email Mr. Reagon today to ask some questions.

That's too bad you missed out. Did someone on the site buy it? It would be nice to see its progress. As for restoring with out the early parts. Most could be replaced with later parts until suitable early parts could be found to take their place. IE steering wheel, front glass, rear hatch, vents, emblems, etc. I do hope it went to a good home and is not getting parted...

Pitty you missed out Zedyone. Thats the problem with my accountant. She keeps talking me out off it. Aah, if she didnt my garage would be so full of junk I wouldnt be able to move in it, let alone work on anything.

I hope it went to someone that is planning to retore it and not just hack it up for a weekeind racer. Such a low number 69 deserve better than that.

    Here's the link to the craigslist listing: Serial number 201 datsun 240 z 1970 - $3999

    Serial number 201 datsun 240 z 1970 - $3999 - $3999 (Eldon/lake area)
I am selling my serial # 201 240z. it was actually built in 1969 making it in about the bottom 50 lowest serial numbered cars in the world! It needs full restoration but I have many new parts and half of the rust restoration completed ( engine compartment area is done and primered) I even have replacement quarterpanels new and the hatch jam area Nissan panel new. I also have new interior door panels and a headliner. I also have all the hardware replated. The SU carburetors are totally rebuild and replated so look like new. ( they alone sell for $1500 on eBay) I even have the 4 original tires, hubcaps and the stock wheels! I'm thinking around $7999 would get everything including the roticery, 8 cars worth of spare plated and sorted bolts and all my spare parts such as 1 spare engine and 2 spare transmissions. It also comes with the original Nissan microfiche and a microfiche viewer. I will give $500 to whoever sells it for me.
It is towable. I have the rear drums off, 4 good tires on it and a towbar with a 2" ball size bolted to the front. I towed it from Dallas tx to here in central mo no problem. I'm selllling cause I'm moving and having to give up my 3000 sq ft building where it is stored. There are enough parts to build this car then sell off the extra parts and make enough money to fund the new parts you need. For instance there are 3 rear quarter panels (need 2) and 4 taillights (2) and 4 "dogleg" bottom front of the quarterpanel (need 0) and 5 sill panels (2) and 2 hatch interior plastic panels (need 1) and 5 rear side interior plastic panels (2) and 3 corner front blinker lenses (2) and 2 roof plastic panels (need 1) and on and on for pages!

Many pictures can be seen at:

Just confirmed - #201 IS still available for sale. The previously reported deal fell thru. Bill and his wife have a deal on their MO home, really want this car gone before they move back to TX.

I was the previous buyer. I can confirm that I'm unable to pick up the car given constraints that I was unaware of at the time I agreed to the purchase. The deal checks out, and its a good one. I'm bummed to miss out, but there's hopefully someone out there who can take the car and the huge store of parts off the seller's hands.

Time is of the essence, so I encourage anyone nearby, or who is willing to rent a U-haul, to go get this car. You won't be disappointed.

I am talking with Bill and am considering trying to save this project. We talked last evening and are going to follow up in the next couple of days. He said that he did have a couple of other interested parties. I have my 72 FJ40 as my next project.

    Hi Jerry:
It would be great if you could save that project - I'm sure you and your son could have it back on the road in short order... Plus it would be good to see Bill's mind put at ease, given his contributions to the Z Car Community over the decades..

At least you are close enough...

I am within 6 1/2 hours I believe. After talking to Bill he did not think my F250 with a cap and my open trailer would work out and suggested I rent a small U-Haul and flat tow the car. I am not a fan of flat towing on the Interstate. I have since acquired access to a 26' enclosed trailer. I am making arrangements just in case no one else steps up. I do not want to see this car lost but it is not something I am anxious to do at this point with my other projects. I do have some ideas what I would do with the car if I do acquire it. I am excited about starting the restoration of my 72 FJ40 this winter.

I am in the Chicago area, not that much farther than Jerry. This would be the perfect retirement project for me. When does he have to have it out of his storage facility? Unfortunately, I have no place to store it for the next 8 years.

    Jerry,

Let me know if you are going to pass, I could take the car and parts and start the restoration.....all my projects are up to date and with winter coming I need something.

I'm sure there are transport companies who would deliver to Knoxville, (or If I can get the time just drive up and get it) so let me know your status as I would never try and sneak this from you.

    Thanks,

I'm sure there are transport companies who would deliver to Knoxville, (or If I can get the time just drive up and get it) so let me know your status as I would never try and sneak this from you.

    Thanks,
    Randy
I am glad to hear that it is sold again. I am a little confused. I had made arrangement for a 26' enclosed trailer due to Bill telling me that my capped F250 superduty and my 18' open trailer would not get the job done. I received an email for Bill this morning and made him aware of where I was on 201. On first contact I asked Bill for photos of the car and parts and a list of parts and Bill told me he did not have computer access and could not give me a list or photos. He said that he was limited to emails from his phone. Then today I find that Bill has a facebook page with photos etc. I forwarded the page to a friend who's opinion on Z's I respect for a evaluation of the car and parts. I am waiting to hear back from his this evening. I am glad that someone else will take on this project to be quite honest, I am not overly interested in the low VIN I sold #29, but my son wanted to build a early rally Z clone. I can now finish my current projects, detailing my 72 and restoring my 72 FJ40, then look for a solid body for the clone project. Good luck to the buyer and I hope he keeps us posted on the project.

That is odd Jerry, especially after all the arrangements you made, this just means its a blessing in disguise for both of us.

I would have done it, but now I can look for something different. Maybe a FJ, Hmmmmm, you got me thinking.

Good luck on your build, I finished my 71 Bronco and my wife see's that look again......hide the check book.

If someone on the board bought the car please let us know.

    Jerry,

Very cool, I love FJ40s! It's very unusual to see a rust-free one. Almost every FJ40 I've ever seen has rust or at least has had rust repairs. They are very similar to 240Zs when it comes to rust.

Looks like Chris Karl from the ZCCA bought it - Chris lives in Cleveland, OH as I recall.
That was such a screaming DEAL, I was amazed that it took so long for someone to grab it.

Hi guys...yes, I picked it up. Looking forward to taking my time putting her back together, but need to get down there and pick everything up and tote it back to OH.

It's been too long since my last first-gen Z. It'll be a while, but I'll be over here more often with updates (likely for advice, too).

    Chris,

Congratulations on buying #201! I've watched with anticipation to see who ended up with #201 and glad it found a good home! Like Carl said, I'm surprised it didn't go faster, but it sounds like it just wasn't the right time for most people here. Had I not buy a '71 240Z last summer, I would've had the resources to buy #201 and complete the project. Congratulations again and please keep us updated on the progress!

Chris - now you'll have a reason to visit ZMeca more often. My advice was to take a large truck and long enclosed trailer. You don't want to leave anything behind. The rotisserie came with the car as I recall, when it was first advertised the car was still on it - you'll for sure want that as well. Get every nut, bolt, screw - believe me, they will all become important...

Its funny, this car's ad on Craigslist continues to be renewed. It shows an original posting date of 9/28 but must have been renewed last night since it appears at the top of the list for 10/5.

    Serial number 201 datsun 240 z 1970

I look forward to seeing more pics of it once Zinistr picks it up!

All - been working through the "deep freeze" over the holidays up here in OH... Went through all the parts, thought I had more than I did, but will be putting "the list" together come spring to get moving. I know I need a decent dash, the one in the car won't do... Also need seat upholstery and new carpet... Plenty to do, but the weather's not cooperating. BTW, many photos under my profile on Facebook if you'd care to have a look. Cheerz!
