I know I have posted a few pics before but that was under the heading of How stuffed is too stuffed. It does not describe my second sedan so well as it does my first one. I bought a very rusty one as it was the only one I could get my hands on but ended up being a great parts car. Roll forward about 9 months and I got a phone call from a guy in Melbourne who had his late fathers car garaged for many years and decided to sell it. He got my number by googling Datsun 240k sedan and my gumtree add came up as the first result. He asked me what I thought it was worth and I gave him an honest answer. By chance I was to be in Melbourne 4 days later( I have not been to Melb since 1994 sports trip). Could not believe my luck. The owner picked me up from the course I was attending and took me out to look at the car. He asked a lot about what I planned to do with the car, checking to see if it was going to a good home I think. Checked it out, agreed on a price and I had it transported back to Brisbane.

The car ran but only just enough to save me money on the car carrier. Had milky oil and ran pretty rough but at least I knew it was all there. Most of the first week was spent admiring what I had found as I was quite sick. After that I ripped the head off to find lots of corrosion in the head and some damage to bore 6 from sitting water. Sent the head off to Northside Cylinder heads and he welded up the blown out ports, lapped the valves and refaced the seats skimmed the head and cleaned it all up. I ended up honing bore 6 and reassembled to see if there would be any smoke. All new coolant hoses, water pump, thermo housing and water outlets and cleaned radiator.

Getting closer to being a winner. Now it runs reliably I need it to perform better. Maybe rose coloured glasses but I always remembered it being quicker. I inherited one in about 1997 with a 4 spd manual, now this one has a 3 spd auto and it is slow. Do they really go poorly with the auto? My parts car has a 5 spd in it so this is the next challenge. Hope it makes the big difference I am looking for. Did the Pertronix electronic ignition and this has made it run a lot cleaner(combined witth a better cond distributor). Alternator has already been modded to take internally regulated unit so upgrade should be easy. Wanted to stay with single carb for less problems in my life but will see how things turn out after the manual. BTW I used the 1761 Pertronix ignitor with the 3 ohm coil as recommended for the Datsun 240z single point Hitachi.

Got the exhaust replaced today, sounds heaps better. Nice deep and little bit lumpy idle. Does resonate a little about 1500rpm but never there for long anyway. After adjusting the kick down solenoid, bypassing ballast resistor and replacing exhaust the car is really starting to go well like I remember. Still need the manual though.

I bought another 240k sedan yesterday, from memory it is a 1976? Been a while since I saw it. I definitely have a problem. Think it may be cleaner than the one I have, will put up pics as soon as I get it.

Got an old venetian blind out of one of my parts cars which was in poor condition. Stripped and powdercoated it and it looks good as new. Waiting on some jdm taillights which will get here in july and it should look sweet.

Finally got around to fixing up the standard rims this week. Had been waiting for some good cheap tyres to come up for sale. Got the rims sandblasted then painted them myself, pretty happy with how they came up and look so much better than the trx meshies I have on there now. Was rushing to have them done for the All Jap Day 8 June in Brisbane. Will put up some pics at the show.

I don't really know how yahoo japan works but I bid $235 aud and gear boot was about $30. After fees and postage cost me $350. Probably could have waited for a cheaper set but my window for a friend in Japan to help was closing. The lights where wired up a bit funny and wattages of bulbs not what I wanted so I rewired and rebulbed so should be ready to plug in maybe this weekend.

Did you wire them up so that all the red lights are dual filament, tail lights and brake lights?
I have a pair coming sometime soon and that's the plan

Also bulbs for both reds are stamped different on body of light so I changed them to be all the same. Not hard at all, my main concern was about having to fit dial filament fittings, but they're already there.

Also I can't get over how well these lights are made. 37 or so years old and they come apart easily for cleaning and look spectacular. You just don't get that with cars anymore.

So all red rings are dual filament? That's what I was wondering, bit of good news. I read somewhere that the outer rings were dual filament for park/tail lights, and inner rings were solely brake lights, just wanted to check.

Yeah both of the red rings are lit by dual filament bulbs on jap version. I just noticed on the back of the light body(white part) there are stampings for J and E(Japanese and euro? English?) bulb wattages and the J red ring bulbs are both dual standard. Bit hard to explain so have a look for your self. Stamps are the same on Jap and Aus version of lights.

Attachment 72712Attachment 72713Picked up my parts car on the weekend. Lots of rust but plenty of good parts. Comes with a 4 spd which I'm pretty happy about too. Has had a few parts taken off it over the years sitting at a wreckers but overall pretty complete. Hope to strip it out then sell off some parts to re-coupe some money. Maybe. Long term plan. If I do I will be sure to post parts list here first.

Geez that looks good mate! Reckon I'll leave my Yonmeri with the export lights tho, since the Kenmeri will get the GTR treatment.

Did you clean up inside the lights? How did you get the lenses off? Mastic to reseal?

When I cleaned the Aussie ones the lenses where quite difficult to get off. I just used something like all clear from memory. The jap lenses almost fell out when I was cleaning them. Used a black sealant I had a work because it was free. Used it sparingly so not too messy.

Advertised on gumtree recently for l24 l26 l28 engines and got a few responses. I bought one today. L26 complete, twin dome top su, filter housing and hpc coated extractors which u don't think will fit. Fresh head and was running well when taken out for v8 conversion.

I think so, no one really goes on about the l26, but offers I had for l28 where ridiculous. In fact everyone was chasing stupid money (imo) for all of them except this one. Main reason I bought it was that the su's had been set up for this motor, hopefully less stuffing around and just drop it in with the 5 spd. I am secretly expecting to find a mod cam under that cam cover too. Wait and see.

I had the extractors for my flathead Ford motor done with HPC and the temperature difference between standard cast manifolds and the HPC coated extractors was over 100 degrees!?! Just over 50 degrees external metal temp.

Had a look for those extractors on eBay, here is a link to the 240k set, priced at $354.
The "HTH065" part number brought up 5 listings on eBay all with a different car/motor. The only extractor set for $250 is for a Nissan Patrol G60.......

Recirculating ball steering which those headers have to clear. I got the pipes today and look just like Adams. Will update when I trial fit them.

All priced the same through hi tech but cheaper through exhaust shops probably because they are 100 years old and praying for someone to buy them. Fingers crossed. Seems odd that the set you bought are $100 cheaper if they are the same as the others listed under that part number?
