I am in Cleburne , Texas (south west of Fort Worth) and I am 31. I have a 1971 (late) and a 1972 240Z. The 72 will be an autocross car while I am trying to get the 71 into a daily driver/ show car.

    Beandip,
You're one year minus two days older than I. 12 Feb 1940. I'm using my '70 Z 4 speed, mostly stock, as my daily driver during the summer. No airconditioning in steamy Maryland, 35 miles NE of Baltimore. I have a beautiful Thai wife and a daughter of 8 years old.. The wife has progressed to being a front line chef at a golf club near here. You golfers may have heard about it. Bulle Rock in Havre de Grace, MD.

    Default Howdy Friendz....

I also live in Oregon, in a small cop happy town of Forest Grove, just a few miles from Beandip...

Both of my Z's are daily drivers, My series 1 '71 sits in the garage for now and more than likely will for the winter. I am now driving the '74 and will enjoy it much more when Super dips below $2 a gallon and the Mikuni's are adjusted better...

    1 wife (that's enough..) (Stephanie)
    3 kids (Kodi, Jeff, Ashly)
    1 German Shepard (Kesha)
    1 Great Dane (Goliath)

    And I am 35 going on 26.

    Enjoy the highwayZ....

48, in northern Indiana, wife, 2 boys, one almost driving age along with the usual and some unusual country pets. '

73 240, no where near stock, a project started before I had a wife and has finally moved to the front burner after 15 years of sitting. Hopefully this spring she will be my daily driver, making my 40 mile comute to the "city" on what is considered the worst highway in the area a total driving pleasure, 40 miles of curves and 300' long or less passing lanes. Now if I could just get everyone else to leave either 15 minutes before or after I do it would be great

Don't we have 'Introduce yoursef to the Class' for this? Just turned 36, live on the coast halfway between LA and SF...General Contractor...on wife #2...two daughters 9 and 3...1 doggie and 1 kitty, a 77 weekend driver/autocross car and a 73 stripped and being put back together a little to slowly with a 81 drivetrain as a serious auto-crosser. Now we are going into wine season (my other hobby), so the poor Z won't get touched until October.

Geezer my butt. I may be an old dude but not a geezer. There are a few of us in the near proximity . Maybe we could get together , say at mc minmimums , at the Edgefield for a burger and a beer, We could start a happening. I know that there are several of us in the area , why not get together and say Hi. Get back to me and we will set a date is Sept.

Portland area Z owners. I am glad Beandip is kicking what I thought was a dead horse. Some sort of gathering would be great. I would prefer east side if possible. I have been maintaining an email address list and could send out a message when details are set. Our forum in "Local Club Forums" would be a good place to communicate. The forum name is PDX-Z.

Paul you dug up this old thread now I have to admit to 67 ! We have had a couple of gettogethers , in the past 3 years . Now that it is summer , Ha Ha if the sun starts shinning . Lets think of a cruse. One thing , there is a gathering at PIR on Wednesday early evening every week. Last week was the first of the year and there was at least 600 custom and/or rods there . Escanlon and I had the only two Z there . It was a great time , maybe more of the Z drivers will join us , it is lots of fun . Wed 4:00 till dark. cost $5.00 to cruse in and show your car and the money goes to the children of the community . Gary

And just look for the BLINDINGLY BRIGHT Yellow Z (aka: Arrest Me! Yellow; or Honest Officer, I know ~nutting~ about that mile long tire scratch Yellow...)and you'll find Gary.

I'll be the subtle 920 Gold Z to the side (if we get there together, and I ~know~ about the aka's on this color, so let's not go there).

Oh, and due to ~some~ jealous members Gary and I won't have our hoods up. (You happy now? Bryan? Arne?)

I think we should have a salmonfly cruise. Too bad Gary will be fishing and not be able to make it this weekend. Of course, I don't think I can keep up with Paul's yellow car with 10" meats on all fours. Now that race car IS "arrest me yellow".

You know ES, you can leave your hood up, I'll watch it for you while you're away. Now what socket will fit that....

I think a 12mm for the hinges, but I only put up my hood when Gary puts his up. That way people can see a "Plain Vanilla" engine to his "Dryer's French Vanilla Limited Edition".

We got rained out today at PIR, BUT they gave out $5 coupons for Beaches to those of us that showed up and VIP Passes for next week. When FunZ1Z showed up after I did, the gal at the gate thought I was trying to score a second coupon and VIP Pass.

    Default Is this thread dead???

Where did all the Oregon People go???
I'm Michelle, and I'm in the Eugene/Springfield area, married almost 18 years, two kids, two dogs... and I've got a 280ZX 2x2 1979 that I concider to be in decent shape with only 151,000 miles on it.

The first owner was my Mom...who was afraid to drive it and it spent much of it's early years being driven on Sundays and special occasions...and waxed a lot! I've had it for the past 10 years and drive it daily. It's my baby, but she shows some age spots (sun "wear" interior plastics and vinyl) and really needs to be put back into show condition.

I was born in Portland. Haven't live there since 1955 but I still have relatives there and visit semi-occasionally. I once entertained thoughts of moving back up there but after buying this house and moving everything I vowed never to move again.....anywhere!

    Michelle, welcome!

There's actually lots of Oregon people here, we just don't post to this thread, just the active stuff. In fact, if you compare the per capita membership here, Oregon probably has a disproportionate number of members. Not all are active posters, but they include:

Rainman (Medford), yukonharry (Grants Pass), azcarbum (Redmond), myself (Springfield), Mike and zanthus (Albany), Zsaint and the ZTherapy crew (Salem), and beandip, nwcubsman, 240jetjoc, justazcarguy and many others I can't recall in the Portland area. Add escanlon and funz1z from across the river in Vancouver, and you see that we have a pretty sizeable number around here. Granted, almost all of these people own earlier Zs (mostly 240s, at least one 260 and a few 280s) rather than the later ZXs, but that is totally normal for this site, as the early cars were the original focus of this group. 280ZXs are welcome, though.

I guess it is my turn to chime in here as well....

I am 41 I live in North San Diego County, My Mom lives in Beaverton, a suburb of Portland (for those of you who are from other places).

I have one wife and she is a keeper! No Kids, Two Great Danes (Jake and Katie), Three Datsun race cars (a 240Z, 510, and Roadster), One Mini Cooper S, and One Nissan Armada.

I have 3 homes, one is a rental, one is where I spend most of my time and money, and one is in the final phase of construction in Loreto Bay Mexico.

I am the owner and CEO of a small internet hosting company. When I am not working, racing or traveling, I can be found sharing a nice bottle of wine with friends.

OK as I see more Pacific NorthWesterners reply I thought I would jump on the wagon as well. So I am here in University Place Washington currently restoring a 77 280Z that I bought from some in Yakima that sat for too many years so now it is getting a ground up restoration. Have owned other 280Z's in the past as well. My brother does not subscribe to forums but he has his a 77 280Z and a 93 TT and recently sold his 72 240Z.

Let's not lose the fact that this thread is "I live in Portland Oregon" which would imply some connection with/to that city/state rather than the random individual bios that are showing up since the thread has been awakened. Michelle's question, after all, was "Where did all the Oregon people go???"

Well since I started this thread back in 2003 plenty has changed. I have nearly finished my Z. as it it will ever be finished. There is an established Z car club with a growing membership of some really great people. From Oregon and SW Washington . We number 56 the last time I checked. We also have a non club, club, of about 15. We keep contact with one another via Email , list style. We try to gather for a beer and Pizza a couple of times a year as well as for a cruse or two. The Northwest Z membership own Z of all years where the non club club, the Z are almost all 240s. Maybe since this thread has been resurrected there may be renewed interest from others that were unaware of us. Now that Carl Beck's list will be going away soon , we all need to keep in contact with one another . This demise is going to leave a large hole in the Z community. Being part of a group definitely has its benefits . Gary

Fair enough but the thread was dead until Michelle revived it with the question posed in the last line of my post-"Where did all the Oregon people go???"

Well Ken welcome to the web site. You dusted off an old thread here. Since '03 much has happened to and with all of us. Once again it was good to read all the posts from way back. We miss some that are no longer with us. But we remember them and draw from there experience through the archives and doing searches for different things. Always good to see the names and read the comments. My Z has been ''finished'', for some time now. Mostly a maintenance thing , unless I am upgrading something. I am 69 now and still live in the Beaverton area. Married and now it has been 48 yrs. Gary

I guess you'll soon be able to add me to your list of locals Gary. I plan to join the club soon and attend some events. My '72 240Z is a ways off from being done and even from being reliable, but it will get there eventually. Thanks for the phone call and the help and sending Roge my way yesterday. Thought we had some wheels that would work out but they were for an Audi pattern instead. Hoping to find something tonight that will work. We'll see I guess.

I live in Bend Oregon, I was in Portland last month I think (at a Holiday Inn Express no less)

    Right now I have a 73 240 Z, a 67 1/2 Roadster 2 liter, a 68 2000 roadster, I have a Honda Element for a daily driver. We also have a Toyota Sequoia 4x4 for the family wagon in the high desert.

Currently in Abingdon Virginia. Tomorrow I start my 12 day work shift. The work truck is a 2001 Bell 206LIV Longranger. Seven pax helicopter. Looks like we may have a wildfire to go work on.

    This translates to:
I disassemble the car REGULARLY, it's finished when I can no longer find anything to unscrew, unbolt, or pop open, then I re-build it all only to discover that the "ticking" noise I heard was the new wind-up alarm clock I put out in the garage...

Maintenance is defined as the weekly disassembly of components that most of us would seriously debate for a week or two and put off even longer.

Upgrading, is also on an ongoing basis and defined as: That part is not currently installed on my car and it's bound to be better than the one on my car because I haven't yet disassembled my car to the point of being able to replace that part, therefore I must disassemble it.....

All of these combined symptoms are known in the PDX area as Berglund/Moisant syndrome, with a mild case of Frisbyitis.

I'll now exit stage left while I duck and run......

Ken and Greg, be very carefull not to be led astray by that bunch up your way, One sells his friends cars on websites-with out having to be asked, and is currently shopping for implants for his "roof". One resto-mods new hotwheels for kicks, thinks pinstripes help EVERY car, and one spends more time taking apart and putting back together than driving...
They all seem nice enough, so it must be something in the water...

Seriously, you have found an elusive Z spot, A good natured group of guys with very diverse backgrounds and deep Z experience...if only Sydney Moon was the ZPS driver...

A Z is beautiful from any angle, I just happen to prefer to view from the drivers' seat!

What are you thinking! You really want E or Beandip to be the ones letting her drop anything she wants after that drive, and share a properly prepaired beveridge and a backrub in nippy weather after her long drive? I bet E has already ordered 500 gallons of lime jello and a hot tub(and is now figuring out where the pinstripes will go....) just thinking about it!

A Z is beautiful from any angle, I just happen to prefer to view from the drivers' seat!

Hey guys... I've wanted a Z for a few years now and now that I'm out on my own I finally got one! I'm in Hillsboro Or and live with my girl/wife(I'm 20)lol; we also have a cat.

The car is a 78 280z with a factory blue repaint. She runs strong and has little cancer and I'm super excited to start learning and tearing into her.

I also am very surprised to see so many people in the Portland OR area. Is there any kind of get togethers coming up because that would be awesome!

Joshua, there are several organized clubs serving the PDX region. Northwest Z is one, or there are a couple that cater to any older Datsun.

There are also occasionally impromptu gatherings of non-affiliated Z owners, too.

There are a few of us from north of the border that get involved down that way from time to time.

Just a few minutes after posting my intro I checked out northwestz.org and found that they meet every month. And in Beaverton no less!(About 15 mins. away) Woot woot.

I'm going to sign up as soon as I can spare the membership fee.

It's really cool to see all of the events and get togethers that have taken part. I really look forward to meeting everyone and checking out your rides!

    OK<
So this is a old thread!!!

I am in Central OR, just south of Bend, with a series 1 240z. I have had the car for over 30 years, and it likes to go on drives! I just see all these clubs listing all these events in Portland, and none here?

There was a club over here at one time, not sure what happened to it. Been thinking of some of the "northwest clubs" as a alternative.

Keep us posted on the events scheduled........

O, by the way, I have been to Portland many times, but never stayed at a Holiday Inn Express..............

    Enjoy the ride,

Much the same in the Eugene-area. No organized clubs here. Tried to gather a group a couple of years ago, but it didn't take.

When it comes to clubs, one has to remain cognizant of the 10/90 rule. Ten percent of the members do ninety percent of the work and the 90% just ride along either participating or not as the mood moves them.

Ask me how many clubs it took me to fully understand this particular concept......

Datsun Driving Canby Fun is coming up in mid june if you'd like to join us. www.datsunsnw.org for info.

There is a pretty active autocross group in central Oregon.......

I was surprised to see this old thread up again. As the song goes , '' another day older and deeper in debt". I will be 35 for the 2nd time on the 14th. Since the start of this thread I have put about 17K+ on my Z. Not a daily driver and not driven much in the fall and winter. They ''sand'' the roads here with small gravel when we have ice. Hell on paint and glass. I still belong to NorthWest Z. In fact we are entering the Roadster Show as a club this first week in March. We will be entering about 10 Zs. This will be the 53 year in a row for the show. Mostly Hot Rods and Customs. Come and have a look if you are in the area. It's a great show. If anyone wants to have a look at our web site northwestz.org . We try and have at least one cruise a month , plus several other activities. We post them on our events calender if you want to join in you are welcome. I had fun starting from the beginning of this thread and rereading all the posts. So many familiar names we don't see any longer, or at least vary often. This Spring and Summer is going to be GREAT. Looking forward to some serious cruising. We may be having a cruise to eastern Oregon making it a two day run. So we may meet 70Z4fun along the way. All the best to all.

Look forward to seeing as many of you on the dry side of the mountains. I just drove my car this past week, so expect a major change in the weather!

Keep us posted on when you all of you come over our way. Might have to join the club....... just to feel like, I am in touch..........

    Thanks,

I've been driving mine to work all week. Cool in the mornings, but windows down and listening to that sweet six exhaust on the way home!

I am waiting for a couple of good rain storms before I drive mine. I know that is hard to believe coming from the Northwest. The snow storms this winter had the state dump salt and sand on the roads.

I am looking forward to another good summer of cruising with the gang.

I'm far enough South that the sand is gone, and no salt was dumped down here. So the roads are as safe as they'll get, just got to watch for the crazies in their SUVs on their cell phones.

Dumb q - why are there so many Z's in the Northwest? Particularly Oregon?

Maybe it's me, but seems like a Z cluster up there.

It IS a cluster up here!

Seriously, there are still a lot of all sorts of old cars here. Those of you who think of the Pacific NW as a place of rain might be surprised to know that rust is not nearly the problem here that it is in most of the country. A bit more rust than So Cal or Arizona, but much less than most of the rest of the country. Never been any road salt here in Oregon, for example. And more than half of Oregon (geographically speaking) is high desert and fairly dry much of the year. So old cars simply last longer.

As an example, I can recall visiting the DC-area about 10 years ago, and I never saw a single car older than about 10 years the entire trip. Out here it's very common to see various cars from the 60's and 70's every day. As an example, I drove my '71 Z to work today. On the way I shared the road with a 620 pickup, a '65 Nova, a early '70s Nova, a '67 Mustang, a early '70s Bug, and numerous '70s Chevy and Ford pickups. That's a typical commute for me, 7 miles through town.

Out here a 30 year old car is just that - a 30 year old car, not necessarily a rust-bucket. If you shop carefully rust-free cars aren't hard to find at all.
