Nate, what did you pay ? I'm looking at 16's, but, have been trying to justify the cost.
I wonder why those wheels cannot be done quicker, that company has been around for years.

If anyone is interested in Gunmetal Grey Panasports be prepared to wait. There are absolutely zero in North America. I put an order in with Les over at ClassicDatsun.com back in late March and it looks like I still have up to two months left to wait. If you are looking to get a set I recommend getting your order in now and hopefully yours can get slid in on the same manufacturing run that mine will be in and you won't have to wait as long.
Les has been great to work with and he will give you a good deal on the wheel package.

I don't really know what Panasports issue is. Les says it has something to do with them wanting to do a run of Grey vs. Silver. You can pick up silver ones from Les for around $1000, but the Grey ones are a little more and the wait is excruciating. I made up my mind though, I MUST have the grey w/ polished lip!

ARghhh, that blows. Well atleast you will get them sooner or later. Have you checked with MSA? Do they have a backorder?
I think you should let me run them for a bit to make sure they will work properly on your car. Then once your car is ready for them I will give them back to you broken in![]()

What is wrong with getting the silver ones and having them powdercoated? IIRC, when I asked Les about them he seemed to imply that's what was done by the manufacturer....
Could be a good way to go if you're in a hurry.

To me this is the equivilant of having buying a new car and having it painted because they didn't have the color you wanted on the lot, when all you have to do is wait a short while before the right one comes in. I can wait... it sucks, but I'll manage. It would have been cool to have them at the Vintage Gran Prix Festival in Watkins Glen next month, but oh well.
Jeff-
I would have never considered grey on a gold car... but I'll be damned- It looks great!

Thanks Nathan. Something told me that they would give the car more 'pop' than silver. I think they look great on the car.
I agree that changing the color of new wheels is a bad idea. I would do it on old wheels that need refinishing, but not new ones.

Impatience has never been a part of the equation. I would LIKE to have them for a certain event, but do not NEED them for that event.
As far as the manufacturer and any mystery process... I'm going to go out on a limb here and say that when they make the silver ones they toss a clearcoat on them. I highly doubt that they strip off the clear to paint/powder them grey or for that matter paint/powder over a clear, I may be wrong though. Therefore if you take them to Billy Bob the wheel guy there will most likely be strippers and cleaners involved and then his version of the color is applied.
Haste makes waste. In this case the waste would be in the form of cash.
Not trying to piss in anybody's Wheaties here, just letting it be known that there is more than one perspective. Not that your way is wrong Steve... It's just not my style, and apparently not Jeff's either.
IMHO,
Nate
